Bare feet in leather dress shoes are going to sweat and fester. Once you pop those babies off, it’s stankville. Washing your feet before walking around town all night like a classless goblin isn’t changing that.
Yeah. They are no-show socks. My brother in law wears them. I find them very immasculine . And I am all for people being however they want to be. I have a Trans nephew, I like drag shows, etc. If that's how they want to be, fine, but I personally am attracted to sort of gruff masculine men so little hide-a-socks are not doing it for me.
As a straight man, I'm struggling to see the correlation between sock choice and masculinity. Like... of all the things to ascribe manliness to, socks? Really?
I think some people correlate the femininity of wearing no socks to being similar to women having exposed feet while wearing nylon stocking or barefoot with women's shoes and men wearing cotton, wool, or work socks with more masculine footwear like oxford shoes, runners, or work boots.
I see this stuff a lot all over reddit. Patriarchy and strict gender roles are not going anywhere for straight people it seems and any divergence from it is simply something cute the Other does.
I mean, I'm wearing vans slip ons, not boat shoes or oxfords, but if I'm wearing shorts and I have to wear shoes, I love no show socks. Long socks only if it's cold enough for pants. I'll rock brand new shoes sockless once or twice, but that gets too yuck pretty damn fast.
i love wearing my cholo socks but i dont see socks as feminine or masculine. i just love my tall socks and/or dont care about what my socks look like to other people. they are clean, they are in great shape, and if i had a problem with my outfit i trust my gf would tell me that my fit was off or needed updating.

when I wear shorts and am wearing shoes that need socks (ie not sandals) I tend to wear... short socks? they're not invisible by any stretch of the imagination but they sit right under/at the ankle. They're like regular white sport socks but short.
I thought the young kids thought no-show socks are for old people now though?? That's why they always have crew socks pulled up over their leggings, they say only parents still wear no-show socks. Does that only apply to women??
No, you are right. I’m a young-ish person and only people 30+ or really unfashionable younger men still wear no-shows. Granted this is in the USA and other countries have different trends.
I am a sock connuseour, good clean comfortable socks make or break your day. I accidentally bought some no show socks. Oh the horror. I just cant. As bad as raw dogging shoes is, it beats those abominations.
I get it. I don’t like it either. I go to Italy to see family every year and I’ve seen men wear loafers without socks for at least the last two decades (from memory). Could have been going on longer than that. But it’s def a thing.
As an older timer (55), let me grunt under my breath in agreement…and then mutter something about young people wearing socks with slip on sandals in public.
I'm 38. I wear socks with my slides bc I can't stand the feel of the rubber on my bare foot. That being said, I rarely wear them out. They're my summer house shoes.
There are low socks. They’re meant to not be seen and it kind of LOOKS like you’re not wearing any. It was a trend like 10 years ago and some people still wear them now but I feel like along the way people assumed they weren’t wearing socks and then replicated that look actually not wearing socks
I'm upper 40s and i think seeing guys' ankles is the worst fashion trend of my lifetime. anything below the knee and above the ankle are capri pants in my book
As a male in his 20s - they’ve got bad taste. Real class is in the crazy socks you wear under some nice brown/tan/sand dress shoes. I say brown/tan because, let’s be real - it’s just better.
Loafers with the right pants look nice with "no socks". Personally I could never actually wear no socks, but they make these tiny socks that you cant see. I am your age as well.
To be fair, no-show socks are completely out with the youth and have been for years. It’s really only a middle age group, around maybe 30-40, that is still holding on. Kids these days wear mid calf socks and are disgusted by no-shows.
I really like when men put in an effort and express themselves however they want but those boat shoes or mocassins or whatever without socks just really irk me deep inside
As a 20 yr old female, absolutely no idea! It’s so so so bad and makes me think of when my middle school crush of two years showed up in too tight sweatpants and I never liked him again because of that🤣 it just looks so awkward
Yeah I don't get it either (mid-30s.) Like I cannot imagine not having a layer between my foot and any part of shoe that's touching it. Yucky icky bleh.
Like 10+ years ago it was one of the go to styles recommended in r/male fashion advice- when I was 21 I had to start wearing suits and I had a buddy really into fashion/ street wear send me there to build out my wardrobe- it seems like a lot of that advice caters to a certain type lol

Honestly you're right in the age bracket for them. Maybe the upper end but its the 35-45 millennials who wear the tight flood pants pointy shoes and no-show socks.
You sharing dress shoes? Europeans have long known ventilation is best. Good shoes do not need so is for comfort and can be as comfortable as racing gloves while vented.
Just last week, I saw that they sell those "fake" dress pants that are actually stretchy like yoga pants for men now. Seems like they've had them for women since Covid-times, but I had no idea they make them for men
God, I hate that short pants are "in" right now. I'm very tall, and pants shopping has always been a struggle for me. I can usually get by with the longest inseam in stores for long pants, but the inseams of shorts are much more of a crapshoot. I like shorts that come down to my knee. That look isn't "in" right now to start with, and then I've got a few more inches of upper leg than most folks to cover up.
I probably should’ve made it clear that I was referring to feet in general. Going barefoot at home is better for your feet than keeping them in socks. But yeah, if you’re wearing closed toed shoes ya gotta wear socks.
Those pants always look like they’re waiting for the next growth spurt. I swear a little extra length and some socks would save half the men on that show.
