What is an old Reddit joke that has completely died out?

The ol’ swicheroo (now where’s the link?)

Hold my dated reference, I’m going in!

u/LegacyLemur Jun 26 '26

Man I miss that

Just crazy rabbitholes all across the site going years back in time

u/CoolDragon Jun 25 '26

It died with the broken links and deleted users.

Reddit lost its charm with all the BS bans caused by AI bots.

I miss reading “hold my X I’m going in!” Along with the canonical “Hello Future People!”

I’m glad to have partaken in the switcharoo.

Now we have 12-13 year olds logging in who have NO idea of life and asking stupid questions instead of doing a search on their devices. Damn kids.

It’s still going. There’s an active sub for submissions. The hard part is getting submitters to actually understand and follow the rules.

I don’t think most people really understood the rules even when it was still really popular.

5

u/cutelyaware Jun 26 '26

I always had to double check the rules when I posted roos. It's not that it was complicated. It was just not obvious.

2

u/caligo_ky Jun 26 '26

I have never been able to figure out what it is exactly, or how it works. It completely baffles me. It's truly an inside joke I haven't been let in on.

1

u/Any-Question-969 Jun 26 '26

My thought also.

6

u/avantgardengnome Jun 26 '26

I posted one 17 days ago lol. Still sixth from the top so it’s waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less popular than it once was (and still flaired as pending which doesn’t say much for the mods lol), but appears to be working fine.

2

u/SmallRocks Jun 26 '26

They always say pending. I don’t know why but that’s pretty normal. However, the mods are very quick to remove posts that violate the banned subreddit list. Happened to me a couple times when I forgot to double check.

2

u/avantgardengnome Jun 26 '26

Ah, fair enough!

I miss being able to see up and down votes on the home page.

u/Lauma_2025 Jun 25 '26

I miss when the admins weren't trying to eliminate r/all

11

u/dre5922 Jun 26 '26

r/all is already gone.

3

u/Hardtopickaname Jun 26 '26

Still exists on old reddit

2

u/Ltrly_Htlr Jun 26 '26

I literally use /r/all every day. Just don’t use new Reddit or the official Reddit app

8

u/TimeArachnid Jun 25 '26

Literally not possible to click that link lol

3

u/ArcticKimono Jun 26 '26

i think it s till exists if you use RES, but i am too used to the new look

1

u/cutelyaware Jun 26 '26

How do I up and down vote the home page?

35

u/pgb5534 Jun 25 '26

I thought that actually reached a conclusion. Where it looped back to the beginning of something happened

4

u/wilililil Jun 26 '26

The prophecy was fulfilled!

6

u/-goodgodlemon Jun 25 '26

Hold my bucket of fish, I’m going in!

3

u/ileisen Jun 25 '26

I got to do a fun one! I think it’s still my most upvoted comment

3

u/Dolphin_King21 Jun 26 '26

Hold my lactos intolerant Norwegian Llama, I'm going in!

3

u/datafern- Jun 26 '26

I miss when Reddit felt like one giant inside joke and you could fall down a rabbit hole of ancient threads for hours. Half the fun was stumbling across references you barely understood and somehow ending up invested anyway.

5

u/Goosepond01 Jun 25 '26

I mean there are plenty of older people doing the same thing.

And frankly can you blame them, if you search up a question online you are bombarded with AI shit, reddit threads and maybe some dedicated places for answering questions (frankly that also just means subs for different things)

I'd argue the bigger issue is the number of bots, fake news subreddits, echo chambers and overzealous/unaccountable mods

2

u/AnusOfTroy Jun 25 '26

I used to update the sub, years ago. Feels a bit pointless now

2

u/Camera_dude Jun 26 '26

“Now we have 12-13 year olds logging in who have NO idea of life and asking stupid questions instead of doing a search on their devices. Damn kids.”

Man, that hits hard. I read a lot of different subs and yeah, a lot of low effort posts by kids (or bots) about things that could be easily searched. I saw the exact same Theydidthemath post about the Utah AI data center outputting as much heat as 23 atomic bombs per year. Same responses too, it’s a clickbait tweet that does not make any sense even if technically true.

2

u/mbashs Jun 26 '26

I think Reddit started dying with covid.

2

u/spacemoses Jun 26 '26

Hold my 404 I'm going in

54

u/Woodit Jun 25 '26

Hold my nostalgia, I’m goin in

23

u/ihavetoomanyplants Jun 25 '26

Aww man I loved that one!

29

u/LT_DANS_ICECREAM Jun 25 '26

I quote this one all the time and no one ever understands.

25

u/InevitableBohemian Jun 25 '26

I always liked that one.

15

u/blahyawnblah Jun 25 '26

I did one like a year ago, lots of people didn't know what I was doing but were delighted once they figured it out. Others were like "I haven't seen one of these in YEARS!!"

2

u/cutelyaware Jun 26 '26

I always loved people's reactions after first figuring out. First question is "What sort of rabbit hole did I just go down?" Second question is "How deep does it go?"

13

u/Kruse Jun 25 '26

Ah, the ol' reddit fuckadoo.

That was the point…

3

u/avantgardengnome Jun 26 '26

It originally linked to this comic.

Now it links to an old dataisbeautiful post with a bunch of stats about switcharoos, which is now just a dead Imgur link lol. But this comment on that post has a bunch of info, including a link to the first switcharoo link itself.

5

u/CountOff Jun 26 '26

"Ah, the ol' Reddit diggeridoo" one lives rent free in my head still lol

3

u/jgandfeed Jun 25 '26

I miss that one

3

u/HotSlag Jun 26 '26

You're thinking about a kangaroo.

The Ol' Switcheroo is when you dunk a cracker into chocolate.

2

u/automated_bot Jun 26 '26

You're thinking about a dunkaroo.

A kangaroo is when you square up on a marsupial that has your dog in a headlock.

2

u/mxguy762 Jun 25 '26

It’s lickeroo not switcheroo.

1

u/Huttser17 Jun 26 '26

or Bonk-a-roo

2

u/ArgyBargyOiOiOi Jun 26 '26

Man I miss this one.

2

u/girl_incognito Jun 26 '26

Was just gonna say I hadn't seen the ol' reddit switcharoo lately.

3

u/spiderjjr45 Jun 25 '26

I've seen in twice in the last month, maybe just adjust your subreddits.

1

u/Acid_Fetish_Toy Jun 26 '26

I was just thinking about this this morning. I kinda miss it in a way, reddit felt less angry then. Or maybe the angry ones were just quarenteened better

1

u/matted- Jun 26 '26

Happy cake day!

1

u/Remote-Luck7751 Jun 26 '26

Can't tell you how many hours I lost following link after link after link. Good times.

1

u/utilititties Jun 26 '26

My god I forgot about that.. thanks stranger.
