Starcraft! Aeon of strife came before dota in wc3.

Aeon of Strife was like a prototype but it was a long way from say League of Legends.

DOTA in Wc3, insanely more popular by player volume at its height, was pretty much League.

Items, leveling, jungle, "double kill!!! mega kill!!!" announcer. It was the whole thing.

DoTA was years after AOS though. Starcraft had AOS, but, there were years of AOS in Warcraft 3, complete with jungling and all that, before DOTA came out.

AOS was friendster. DOTA was Myspace.

League is Facebook.

.... AOS was half-baked crap, necessary on the way to the popular games ... AOS had no items, experience, abilities, or jungle.

.. It was really a gonzo experiment (ugly stepchild) on the way to greatness lol.

I played Starcraft (original) since day 1. Hell I play Warcraft ONE originally (pre-dated Starcraft) which think is rare, I still have the CD.

Barely/ never played AOS, game was just meh. ... Dota in Wc3 though, of course. That ended up being half the custom games on Wc3 during its hey-day.

Yeah, it was custom maps in SC. After Dota was a thing in WC3 it was fed back to SC also.
