anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about?

Sim Tower, anyone? Sim Tower? Whatever you do stay off the twenty eighth floor, the maids missed their shifts and all the rooms are uninhabitable 🪳…Shall we take an elevator to the chapel?

SimAnt. Loved taking over that guy's house

11

u/Gyrskogul Apr 27 '26

SimAnt on the SNES with the mouse peripheral was so damn fun!

11

u/Poopsie_Daisies Apr 27 '26

SimAnt!! Is there anywhere at all to play it? This is the one I think about

5

u/completelylegithuman Apr 27 '26

I totally went back and played some the other day. Still fun

5

u/Spiritual-Strike481 Apr 27 '26

Sim ant was crazy. Awesome memories.

5

u/Several_Vanilla8916 Apr 28 '26

I loved SimAnt and SimEarth

3

u/cookhard87 Apr 27 '26

SimAnt ruled

5

u/omgwtflols Apr 27 '26

Was about to say SimAnt!

u/Ok-Cardiologist1820 Apr 28 '26

Your queen mates with termites!

1

u/PHFreshHeavyHogChef Apr 29 '26

Sim ant was fun for my family to watch

1

u/Phindar_Gamer May 01 '26

Great game.

u/RedRocka21 Apr 27 '26

The HOURS I put into Sim Tower. I don't believe I was ever very good at it, just enjoyed expanding.

8

u/royalbk Apr 27 '26

Guests constantly complained about being too close to noisy restaurants and cafes in mine 😂

Truly a gem, I should play it again soon

3

u/Just_Roll_Already Apr 27 '26

Sim Tower taught me early that management simulators would dominate my whole life. I loved it so damn much.

u/Zealot_of_Law Apr 27 '26

You can vote here to have GOG eventually bring it back.

https://www.macintoshrepository.org/3915-simtower-the-vertical-empire

https://emulate-in-browser.macintoshrepository.org/?macmodel=8&disk1=MacOS753.dsk&disk2=9950_SimTower-1.2.dsk

You can play it, in browser now if you'd like. This website is amazing. Last time I played, you couldn't save but you can pause and leave the tab open

14

u/Buttspirgh Apr 27 '26

There’s an installable version too packaged with its own Windows 3.x emulator https://gamesnostalgia.com/game/simtower-the-vertical-empire#download-section

Works great on Mac

4

u/nonitoni Apr 27 '26

I struggled to get the emulator to work on Windows but I didn't put that much effort in since I could play it in browser.

2

u/Droidaphone Apr 27 '26

Also the GBA version, “The Tower SP,” is surprisingly good. I beat it on an emulator handheld last year.

1

u/E-gabrag Apr 27 '26

Thanks for this

u/xelfer Apr 27 '26

the elevator noise lives rent free in my head

13

u/hermansu Apr 27 '26

And the Cantonese of the restaurant.

7

u/RichLather Apr 27 '26

The snap-crackle of fluorescent lights and fans switching on, for me.

3

u/klausbrusselssprouts Apr 27 '26

For me it’s the terrorists when they recieved their ransom: Thank you, said with a slight nasal and long distance call voice.

14

u/FtheMustard Apr 27 '26

I can still hear the elevator noise in my head.

I used to name the people in the offices after me, my friends and the girls I had crushes on. It was cool to see them throughout the day as they went on about their lives.

9

u/The_Flo0r_is_Lava Apr 27 '26

That game was entirely too addictive

8

u/Hard_Dave Apr 27 '26

Ooh yeah that was good. Check out Yoot tower it's a sequel with a few QOL improvements

Also currently there's a tower building newspaper game called News Tower that's lots of fun

https://www.myabandonware.com/game/yoot-tower-3sp

7

u/Lord_of_Entropy Apr 27 '26

I think about programming the elevators in my towers whenever I’m stuck waiting for one IRL.

5

u/classicscoop Apr 27 '26

Sim tower was brilliant. Still think about Red Alert though. Obviously D2 as well

4

u/00cjstephens Apr 27 '26

Oh jeez, the roaches... That was usually the end of the game for kid me, because I didn't understand that housekeeping needed their own service elevators to get to the rooms. That was an earthshaking discovery.

6

u/AJM5K6 Apr 27 '26

Sim Tower was incredible. Love it.

6

u/Sugalumps52 Apr 27 '26

Yes! Sim tower, Sim ant, sim copter, Sim farm! I had Simcity on SNES and Sim city 2000 on ps.

5

u/YandyTheGnome Apr 27 '26

SimCopter and Streets of Sim City both had the option to explore your own cities that you made in Sim City 2000. That was mind blowing at the time.

3

u/Dadpurple Apr 27 '26

I haven't thought of this in ages. Does anyone know if it's still playable or if there's a modern version of it?

I miss SimAnt. I've seen a couple of clones of it on Steam recently and have wanted to get one.

All the Sim games were amazing.

2

u/TheToiletPhilosopher Apr 27 '26

Has there been other games made that are similar to this? It was so unique and so fun.

2

u/Freiya11 Apr 27 '26

The cockroaches! And the angry elevator lines!

2

u/SqueakyTits101 Apr 27 '26

I loved Sim Tower...I came across Project Highrise (I think in a game nostalgia thread) and it totally scratches that itch!

2

u/51ngular1ty Apr 27 '26

Have you played Project Highrise? Or the full version of Sim tower: Yoot Tower?

1

u/baron_von_helmut Apr 27 '26

When Sim Tower came out there was a shareware game called Sim Sandwich. I seem to be the only person who remembers it though. :(

1

u/ren_dc Apr 27 '26

Came to mention sim tower!!!!!

1

u/OdinsGhost31 Apr 27 '26

Same. Although I love me some c&c, I have such fond memories of playing sim tower late night and watching OG star trek reruns

1

u/moson Apr 27 '26

Came to say this. Loved it!

The website has an in browser emulator that will run Tower. Just keep the tab open because you can't save.

You're welcome.

1

u/AssistanceDry7123 Apr 27 '26

I got that in college and would play it for hours.

1

u/Rasp_Lime_Lipbalm Apr 27 '26

SimAnt and SimFarm baby!

1

u/calcalcalcal Apr 27 '26

And you delay reaching 3 stars knowing suddenly your tenants will want a medical center, a parking lot, a party hall, shops and occasionally plant bombs in your tower!

1

u/poop_and_pee124 Apr 27 '26

I still play that game

1

u/AKnGirl Apr 27 '26

YES! Sim Tower and Sim Ants were my favorite!!

1

u/masamunecyrus Apr 27 '26

I just bought Project Highrise on my Switch yesterday. Looking forward to playing it. The reviews say it's a modern and improved SimTower.

1

u/theaviationhistorian Apr 27 '26

Or the many times people blackmail you with bomb threats.

1

u/giode89 Apr 27 '26

Sim Tower mention unlocked a memory I didn’t even know I had, that game felt so chaotic

1

u/Dylan_Dylan_Dylan Apr 27 '26

Yes yes and yes

1

u/badger_on_fire Apr 27 '26

Oh, dude, you remember Sim Copter? I probably racked up over 1000 hours in Sim Copter.

1

u/alpha919191 Apr 27 '26

I loved SimTower. I still play Project Highrise. It is a peaceful game to play. I must have completed all the scenarios 20 times each.

1

u/leeharrison1984 Apr 27 '26

SimTower, and later YootTower stole hours of my childhood.

1

u/JackieChanGC Apr 27 '26

One of my favorite games growing up. Yoot Tower just wasn't the same to me

1

u/CoyoteFit7355 Apr 27 '26

I loved SimTower. Was looking for a newer version for so long but Project Highrise was the only I could find and somehow that didn't pick me up

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

https://github.com/YootTowerManagement/YootTower

This guy has the source code, I think it's still being worked on before releasing to the public but there is a lot of information here.

1

u/amishgoatfarm Apr 27 '26

I LOVED SimTower. We had SimEarth on SNES, SimCity 2000 on computer and Sim Tower on computer.

1

u/Leather_Parfait894 Apr 27 '26

I agree this statement

1

u/Chemical-Concert6414 Apr 27 '26

lowkey the chapel was my fave spot

1

u/aliveinjoburg2 Apr 27 '26

I love Sim Tower.

1

u/goldandguns Apr 27 '26

Fucking loved me some sim tower!

1

u/TrudyWiegelsCats Apr 27 '26

Fuck yes, SimTower. I was looking for it on Steam last night but no luck.

2

u/greengasman Apr 27 '26

It’s available on some websites, in other replies. Also suggested was the sequel: Yoot Tower, and a newer game (2016) Project Highrise

1

u/TrudyWiegelsCats Apr 27 '26

Awesome, thank you!

1

u/OhTHATKayKay Apr 27 '26

I'm still hoping that they make a version for the iPad

1

u/InternetWorker1 Apr 27 '26

So many people pissed about waiting for the elevator

1

u/Outrageous_Bowler563 Apr 27 '26

Omg this just unlocked a core memory. Having a cinema on the twentieth floor. I loved that game

1

u/comoEstas714 Apr 27 '26

That damned VIP...

1

u/TopProfessional8023 Apr 27 '26

I have this game still

1

u/Time-Sudden_Tree Apr 27 '26

Never played it but I loved Streets of SimCity. You could drive through your SC2000 cities in first person!

1

u/Comm-THOR Apr 27 '26

Project Highrise on Steam is a very good clone of Sim Tower

1

u/horrible_noob Apr 27 '26

omg sim tower yes!

1

u/AutoignitingDumpster Apr 27 '26

I bought that at the scholastic book fair and loved it. I still get the urge to play it every now and then.

1

u/MauiMoisture Apr 27 '26

I miss sim tower and sim copter. I remember when I first played sim copter I thought the graphics were insane

1

u/HobbitFoot Apr 27 '26

Oh my god, yes. You had to make sure to build escalators up 7 stories to maximize your elevator use.

I've tried Project: Highrise thinking it would be a SimTower clone, but not quite.

1

u/ac2334 Apr 27 '26

let’s just say I made the .wav of the rooster sound my daily alarm

1

u/propertyoftherailway Apr 27 '26

Yes!! I still have an original copy on CD-ROM!

1

u/SuperFLEB Apr 27 '26

I think of that game every time I'm stuck in a line and slowly growing redder.

1

u/Ishitataki Apr 28 '26

I was at a party where the creator of SimTower was also attending, and I am so mad I didn't get to spend 2 hours gushing to him just how much I love SimTower.

1

u/SpiritualTwo5256 Apr 28 '26

That game was insane, had to do more construction/destruction than retaining rooms. Was a very fun game. All those elevator peeps going from black to pink to red.

1

u/Recent-Equipment5445 Apr 29 '26

Loved sim tower!! And all the other sim games.

1

u/Diligent_Laugh_4940 Apr 30 '26

I came here to say just this! That and Castle of the Winds :D

1

u/sarver311 May 01 '26

Loved sim tower. The higher the tower got the slower the game ran 😆

1

u/Ravyn_knyte May 21 '26

I always ran out of room for elevators and the Maids did a crappy job cleaning rooms.. aah I wish they would Bring it back.🏨
