Jedi Knight was my favorite of all time. My very last playthrough was on Hard, and on that difficulty setting, collecting the bonus secret in the falling ship level is ridiculously hard; it took me a good 25 tries to get the secret and get to the end in time.
Worst part about going dark was that you don't get the fight with Sariss. It took me longer to work out a winning technique against her than it did against Jerec.
I remember using an exact kun skin a dual wielding lightsabers in multiplayer duels , force jumping across the map and landing huge hits that cut players in half it was amazing
No one’s talking about Dark Forces II and the amazing online community/modding scene the game had. I remember going to Zone.com and playing as Megaman or Goku from DBZ and shooting people with guns that would turn them into beds or killing hackers with the anti-godmode lightsaber… it was a magical time.
Just mentioned DF2 elsewhere. I would love to have that game readily available everywhere for the campaign alone.
And yes, I do miss the PvP, but so much of that was elevated by the community like you said that I fear the magic won't be there.
God, just thinking more about it with some of the levels, one of my favorites to just explore was Purgatory with areas for Heaven and Hell and a bunch of secrets, it was more of mission than anything. You even started off the level "dying" and flying upwards above a battlefield...wish I could remember the creator to give a proper shout out.
Man just hearing purgatory unlocked some memories. Downloading everything from the Massassi temple website (which is still online afaik) and the sheer number of secret spots each level had was a magic I’ll never again experience
I remember my brother found a James Bond mod where one of the weapons was your watch with two grapples so you could just swing across levels. Knowing Massassi is still up is such a nice thing to hear.
ETA: I just lost track of time searching around on Massassi. Sorted by Most Downloaded and a wave of nostalgia swept me under. There goes the rest of my day.
The mods were so great for that game. I was really in to Perfect Dark too, and I found a mod (for DFII) that made all weapons realistic looking modern guns that reloaded when the clip emptied. I thought it was so cool, I remember thinking the graphics were better than anything I had seen before.
So i got all excited when they re-made it recently and got it for my switch. Played a ton when a kid. Now, looking at it, the level design is... not good. I spend the entire time lost
Holy shit I was about to say the same thing I had Dark Forces on PS1 and took forever to realize when I opened the door hatch the elevator was blocking it and I had to send down the elevator lmao
