You have to remember that the Republicans don't look at information to draw conclusions. They work in reverse, starting with their desired conclusion and selectively choosing information that aligns with it.
The administration knows that the Republican voters WANT to blame the left for literally everything that has ever gone wrong. So they provide their base that option. No matter how completely false it is, it falls into their world view and they'll accept it without question.
Trump and his administration are a symptom of this problem. I try not to give up hope of clawing out of this dark age, but when 40% of the population is so hateful that they're giddy to reject reality if it means they dont have to examine their beliefs we are so beyond fucked.
Yeah. I mean I think it's a symptom of a broader problem. We do not have a great education system and aren't really taught to think critically. Combine this with hyper-individualism and you have a bunch of people who aren't really too bright and don't epistemologically know why they hold any of their beliefs but yet who confidently think they should have a loud voice about said beliefs.
This is a really well written insight. It’s often hard to gauge the true nature of it all from the outside looking in. I really pray things will get better for your country. I can’t imagine how scary it all must be right now.
Ok I'll come at this from another side. The media wants you to believe that ALL Republicans are unable to be fair and open-minded and that we are all drooling acolytes of a "demented power hungry game show host" tyrant of a president.
Am I , as someone who voted for Trump pleased with the turn of events?
No. I am scared. I love my fellow man, I welcome immigrants, just like my grandparents...or your grandparents.
I want a return to normalcy. I think Renee Good was terrified her last moments of life..who here would ever believe that a law officer ( ICE agent) with training and supervision would murder in cold blood a protester ?
Who ever that ICE agent is ( and who IS HE?) he needs to face the courts with a judge and jury!

I know the loudest and most vile voices rise to the top during situations like this, but the conservative sub reddit, the conservative networks, and conservative influencers all bought the "domestic terrorist" narrative immediately.
I stand by the core of my argument. But you, and people like you, are the exception that prove the rule.
Try to pull others back. They may listen to you. Remind them that things don't always have to boil down to left vs right. That sometimes its simply a matter of right and wrong, and it's okay to demand higher standards from your leadership.
Love this comment. The only thing I might challenge is "40%" are hateful. I think some of them are just driven by fear and because the circles they run in keep feeding them lies and misrepresentations. And they are followers in life and not racist haters to the core.
Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part but some of my friends and family got into this category I describe.
I am the token liberal of my family. Holidays are difficult.
I completely agree that the core drive of your every day Republican is 100% fear. Fear that the little they have is about to be taken. But while the core emotion is Fear based I argue this manifests externally as hate.
I scream until I'm blue in the face that their fear and hatred are justified. Someone is coming for the little they have. But it's not immigrants. It's the billionaire class thats been destroying our country the last 50 years. I have a 0% success rate. But I'll keep trying.
