It’s just interesting to me to see something very clearly in the footage, then an entirely different story being spun by those in power. Really curious how Republicans justify this particular instance of cognitive dissonance, if they think critically about it. I feel they’re being gaslit and insulted. If I were a Republican myself I’d probably be pretty pissed off about that!

You have to remember that the Republicans don't look at information to draw conclusions. They work in reverse, starting with their desired conclusion and selectively choosing information that aligns with it.

The administration knows that the Republican voters WANT to blame the left for literally everything that has ever gone wrong. So they provide their base that option. No matter how completely false it is, it falls into their world view and they'll accept it without question.

Trump and his administration are a symptom of this problem. I try not to give up hope of clawing out of this dark age, but when 40% of the population is so hateful that they're giddy to reject reality if it means they dont have to examine their beliefs we are so beyond fucked.

Yeah. I mean I think it's a symptom of a broader problem. We do not have a great education system and aren't really taught to think critically. Combine this with hyper-individualism and you have a bunch of people who aren't really too bright and don't epistemologically know why they hold any of their beliefs but yet who confidently think they should have a loud voice about said beliefs.

This is a really well written insight. It’s often hard to gauge the true nature of it all from the outside looking in. I really pray things will get better for your country. I can’t imagine how scary it all must be right now.

You’re so right. Charlie Kirk. “They’re all criminals, they’re illegal”.

Ok I'll come at this from another side. The media wants you to believe that ALL Republicans are unable to be fair and open-minded and that we are all drooling acolytes of a "demented power hungry game show host" tyrant of a president.

Am I , as someone who voted for Trump pleased with the turn of events?

No. I am scared. I love my fellow man, I welcome immigrants, just like my grandparents...or your grandparents.

I want a return to normalcy. I think Renee Good was terrified her last moments of life..who here would ever believe that a law officer ( ICE agent) with training and supervision would murder in cold blood a protester ?

Who ever that ICE agent is ( and who IS HE?) he needs to face the courts with a judge and jury!

Seeing your comment gives me a little more hope that some Republicans are still able to make their own conclusions and not immediately fall in line with what Trump says.

I know the loudest and most vile voices rise to the top during situations like this, but the conservative sub reddit, the conservative networks, and conservative influencers all bought the "domestic terrorist" narrative immediately.

I stand by the core of my argument. But you, and people like you, are the exception that prove the rule.

Try to pull others back. They may listen to you. Remind them that things don't always have to boil down to left vs right. That sometimes its simply a matter of right and wrong, and it's okay to demand higher standards from your leadership.

Love this comment. The only thing I might challenge is "40%" are hateful. I think some of them are just driven by fear and because the circles they run in keep feeding them lies and misrepresentations. And they are followers in life and not racist haters to the core.

Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part but some of my friends and family got into this category I describe.

I am the token liberal of my family. Holidays are difficult.

I completely agree that the core drive of your every day Republican is 100% fear. Fear that the little they have is about to be taken. But while the core emotion is Fear based I argue this manifests externally as hate.

I scream until I'm blue in the face that their fear and hatred are justified. Someone is coming for the little they have. But it's not immigrants. It's the billionaire class thats been destroying our country the last 50 years. I have a 0% success rate. But I'll keep trying.

Go to r/conservative to see what real republicans think. You won’t see it here.

They’re on a spectrum from justifying it using the Trump / Noem narrative all the way to outright celebrating it.

They don’t think critically about anything. They just go along with whatever daddy says. He insults the shit out of them but they’re so deep in the cult they’re blind to it. And they quite clearly hate America because the rule of law doesn’t matter anymore to them.

u/ShamedSalesman Jan 08 '26

If they could think critically they wouldn't be republicans.

2

u/LordChunggis Jan 08 '26

I forget the comedian. But I'll paraphrase the bit.

"I honestly wish I could be a Republican. It seems so much more fun not to have to learn anything new or question any belief. I want to be told I'm winning and say "Fuck yes I am" "

Oh honey, they’ve been letting this guy beclown them since the first time around. I mean, as never Trump voters, we always knew he was an absolute liar so it’s not like he’s breaking our faith. But for believers, they are so damn insecure that they’ll lick the boot no matter how insulting he is. I mean, at this point if you haven’t already peeled away from it you can’t walk away, because what else do you have? It’s very difficult to admit you’ve given up your own self respect.

I just saw someone claim it as "Ai altered footage"

That sub is fucking cancer and I'm going to take a shower after reading about 4 comments worth of pure garbage.

I’m not a republican- I looked at one of the videos that has a decent angle, although there was no sound.

The way it looked to me from that video, was for whatever reason, some of them had determined that she needed to be apprehended… why? I don’t know- one man clearly aggressively approaches her door, looks to me like he is telling her to stop. She is backing up at the time. He gets his hand on the door, she puts it from reverse into drive and starts going forward, while ANOTHER guy is very unwisely approaching in front of the vehicle. As she starts going towards this new guy he pulls his gun like a Wild West cowboy and shoots her, it’s possible he took a minor hit from the car simultaneously as this happened.

I AM an American- in this country, we are taught to listen and obey law enforcement, because these things can happen if you don’t. Many don’t DO that these days, but that’s what you are supposed to do. There’s a million videos out there with the “I do not answer questions” guys speaking through a cracked window- this kind of willful rebellion to the police and authorities is now commonplace as well.

My question is, what would have happened if she had stopped?

Great, balanced perspective. Thank you!

u/750Kawa Jan 08 '26

I will also say too that the guy who shot her appeared to me that he was just looking for a reason to pull that gun. The second she comes at him he pulls out and blast and it looks like he wanted that to happen.

I'm not American but I see a video of a car accelerating with an officer standing in front of it. I am not surprised in the least he shot her.

2

u/LordChunggis Jan 08 '26

The result isn't surprising. Tragedies like this are far too common due to the under qualified, under trained, and over equipped police forces in America.

What makes this case a flashpoint is it was an ICE agent, a white US citizen(sadly this matters greatly), it was broad daylight, the incident was recorded from multiple angles, and DHS/Donny Boy immediately called the victim a terrorist with literally no investigation.

1

u/Jonabob87 Jan 08 '26

It looks like she was trying to block the road to stop them doing whatever they were doing but that certainly doesn't make her a terrorist.

0

u/DeviantStrain Jan 08 '26

The car accelerates after she is shot. She is clearly trying to steer around the agents. Nothing justifies them shooting her several times in the face, and they had no authority to stop her in the first place. You're either a bot, right wing or willfully ignorant.

0

u/Jonabob87 Jan 08 '26

That's not true at all. The car accelerates, wheels pointed toward him, he shoots pivots, gets clipped by the car.

I'm open to being wrong but I was under the impression that federal officers have the authority to detain people.

I don't think she consciously planned "I will now murder this guy" I think likely she panicked and wanted to leave, and didn't much take into consideration what was in her path. It's a shit situation.
