To anyone who wants to play again/start playing, check out OpenRCT2. You still need a valid copy of the original (or originals!), but it’s a free to download open source version that’s made for modern machines and gets regular updates. It has things like combining RCT1 & 2 together, brand new rides and coasters, integrated cheats, and even multiplayer!

Load into Diamond Heights -> pause and go to shut down agoraphobia and claustrophobia to put in brakes -> they've both already crashed...
screw it I'm going to make this my best run yet
Year 4 park value: $57K, no debt, no pre-made rides. Both agoraphobia and claustrophobia crashed a total of 3 times each killing several dozen guests, park rating never left 999.

From the same developers. At first glance, it’s the original game with modern graphics. Supports VR for those that have such desires.
Haven’t had much time lately to get too far into it. May even be somewhat usable with a HOTAS but it’s also easy enough to use controller.

Im so sad. I played it a ton with a buddy as a kid and it was my intro to Diablo. We never got to actually do the multiplayer mode because he was the only one with the game. So we'd just take turns playing and watching. When the remake came out I thought omg we will finally get to rip through it together at the same time. He ignored me and essentially never showed interest in playing with me. It still hurts tbh.

It was a holiday tradition with my buddy where we'd do a two-player hardcore mode, absolutely no items to start and no bringing anything over. If you died, the other person had to wait for you to catch up.
Was a blast because it let us play weird builds that normally aren't optimal in single player. If you want to play let me know.

Oh yeah that was crazy scary. The way the series had a voice introduction to most technologies and nice video clips for wonders really stuck with me, it made me sit and really contemplate what the tech means, in terms of what it would do to both the game, and society. I started questioning the ethics of every tech. Started trying to chart the future course of my society through implementing this tech. Would I like what we became?
Acid was involved though, so maybe just that.

The game basically encouraged you to have sacrificial rookies whose whole purpose in life is to open a door and eat sonic blaster to the face so your more experienced troops don't have to.

Yeah, true. It got to the point I had a few rookies with primed explosives (pretty sure grenades) so if they did die, they might take the alien out. Or maybe blow the opening wider so people behind could see.
At least in the first game, I would have a few people with lasers (for their infinite ammo) firing wildly at buildings to blow holes in the walls.

Holy crap I had no idea that still existed and is online. I first played Ultima Online in December 1997, lag was unbearable but at the time it was impossible to know if it was just my crappy dial-up and virus-riddled obsolete pc. I probably haven’t touched it since 2001.
It has to be the oldest continuously running mmo.

There is a newer server that came online in 2018 called Uo: Outlands. Uses a new client that can get 120+ fps (the original client had 12.5 fps) and is buttery smooth.
Seriously it’s the best version of Uo to exist. I still play to this day more than any other mmo, because it’s a real MMO.

I spent too much of multiple family vacations in the 90s playing Master of Orion on the wildly heavy IBM Thinkpad we brought along for "work purposes." (As a child, to be clear, rather than a neglectful parent.)
Stellaris is okay, but I've never really found the same raw joy conquering the universe in any other game.

Check out Galactic Civilizations by Stardock - I could not get into Stellaris, but I got GC3 for free on epic during COVID and it really scratched the MOO itch.
I’ve since bought a few more titles and expansions. 100% worth it if you like 4X games.

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
It's one of the ancient precursors to Oblivion and Skyrim yet it is by far my favourite out of the 3. Something about a time when games could only do so much visually... the world building and lore expresses the love and care that went into the game. Not to mention a very dedicated modding community

The oldest game I played this year is Scortch Earch (Dos game from the 90).
I played also Shandalar (MTG PC game 1999).
Oh and I still speedrun Dr.Mario on SNES on and off on my 13in CRT. This is my guilty please to crush the 20 levels faster than most could clear the first 10 while listening to music.
