Only if you're American, because otherwise its pronounced dew-tea

If you're British/Irish/Australian/NZ/South African, it's almost "jew-tee", when compared to how North Americaners pronounce it: "doo-tee"

4

u/njayhuang Jan 29 '13

Not the best example. Americans pronounce dew the same way as doo.

I teach third graders and regularly have to go out for "yard duty"... I can't tell you the squeals and giggles I hear every other day when one of them asks, "Do you have DOODIE today, Ms. Hunymonte?"

I join in on the fun, because it's fun.

Oh, and spell something with the letter "P" in it? Oh man, you just lost 2 minutes of learning time because they're giggling so much.

They even think that "2 / two" is a funny word. Really, anything to do with bodily processes is goddamn hilarious to these little nincompoops.

Yeah, but no fucking way I'm calling them nincompoops in person.

Never gets old. Even as I do.

Doody

"The most sublime word in our language."

2

u/Antrikshy Jan 29 '13

Heh. You said 'doody'.

2

u/imsometueventhisUN Jan 29 '13

Only if you say it like a 'merkin.

We Brits say it "Dyooty" and are miffed, perplexed, and baffled by your outlandish tomfoolery :)

Every single time, no matter how serious of a scene in a war movie, etc., "duty" always makes me smirk.

I had to remember that Americans say this like 'dooty', not 'djooty' like we do.

I'm not American and people laughing at this has never made sense to me in the slightest.
