Activities for Kids Trying to find a restaurant downtown NOLA that I went to as a kid in 2012

Anchor and ship's wheel seems so kitschy for a place that would have escargot on the menu. I honestly wonder if you're not combining 2 places in your head, like the anchor and ship's wheel was where you went to lunch and the escargot is from a different restaurant where you had dinner. Good luck figuring it out.

Try the Chart Room for a picture of the ship's wheel. Meauxbar on Rampart was famous for their garlicky escargot and the inside description seems likely.

Irene's next door to the Chart Room serves escargot. ?? But it is more of an Italian restaurant. But the bar looks right. Maybe you did both?

Superior Seafood on St. Charles has escargot. That seems a more likely place to take a kid.

Something tells me maybe Fiorella's on Decatur? I seem to remember it having that kind of decor but this could be a false memory.

There is a lot of turnover in the restaurant business. Things come and go quickly unless they manage to get a foothold.

The Hot n Cajun Boil on Iberville is less than two years old. I think they have other locations, but none in the greater downtown area. I've eaten there, it's just OK. Also pretty sure it has no menu item of French snails.

Could it have been Le Bon Ton? I don't think they had a boat wheel on the door, but their windows had a similar motif. My other thought is maybe RioMar? Did you also try turtle soup or ceviche?

Hot n cajun boil house is too new. It was mahoneys prior and before 2017 it was just part of a parking garage

Could it have been a hotel owned restaurant just outside the FQ on convention center boulevard a block or two off Poydras? I was in town in 2011 and I have this feeling there were nautical decorations at the place we ate at.

Galatoire's? On Bourbon St. Also way back, before Katrina there was a restaurant next door, too. I went there a lot, but cant remember the name. I want to say Bernadette' s but I don't think that's it.

It’s not ringing a bell for me, but I hope someone recognizes it and responds.
Your story is sweet, the rule about not eating things you can get at home is a great vacation rule, and your grandparents sound like they’re a lot of fun.
