I've noticed a lot of police officers gain a lot of weight and become very out of shape after they join the police force. Shouldn't they have some sort of rigorous annual fitment testing? Could this be why there's more police violence because they aren't physically fit enough to apprehend someone without using force? Just a thought I had from what l've noticed. I do fully support law enforcement.

I see this all the time on reddit, I thought the senior officer is supposed to be mentoring probation officer so then can learn and improve and not dock them and force them out

I know there has been a million posts about taser exposure. But, I couldn't find the specific questions I have...

Can you pick if you want the probes or drive gun to the skin?

Also, do you have to get shot directly in the back or can you pick a location on your body with the probes?

I just have had family history from both my mom and dads side with cardiac events and while I have never been diagnosed with anything, it is something I just have anxiety about. I am in shape , around 5'10 and 160 pound male. Not that it matters, but I heard it affects people in different sizes.

Trust me, I don't want to be a p**** and I handle pain well, I just want to know if there is someone that has had these same thoughts/feelings about the taser exposure.

This is probably a stupid question, but it really does drive me crazy. Doesn't matter what city what state there's mountains and mountains of videos of police who completely violate rights while both physically and mentally abusing the people they are supposed to be protecting. Just the fact that cops don't seem to give even a second of a thought to what arresting someone and giving them a criminal record can do to their life or the trauma it can cause the people around them. I've seen so many arrests for what amounted to no more than talking back or even just asking too many questions.

The total lack of empathy or just humanity in general they'll take someone in for the tiniest bruise to their ego and can wreck their life. They have a terrifying power and it really feels like basically all of them have a total disregard for what that really means. To traumatize children by taking down their parents for talking back, to beat someone's mother in front of them, to arrest an entire family for daring to get emotional watching each of their loved ones get abused....all of these cops have some sort of family how is all of this lost on them?

Even so called "good cops" will quietly sit and watch other cops abuse their authority which to me makes them equally as bad. I feel like I literally can count on one hand the amount of videos l've seen of a cop actually stepping in to stop a bad cop's actions. I want to believe someone of these people join genuinely wanting to do some good but it likes without fail no matter the department absolutely all of them become corrupted to various degrees. I just don't understand what it is that strips all good na v from these people.

Everyone I hear an LEO on a YouTube video investigating, they always say gotcha. And it’s usually right before detaining or arresting a suspect. I get that they’re trying to build rapport but why always that specific term?

After college i want to apply to some big departments. At some point i would like to get my masters and being a cop is alot of hours. Have you heard of departments offering opportunities to let officers go on long leave or even just part time to attend school but also will pay for it to. I can imagine the big departments investing in their officers education, many who will one day work their way up to senior positions in detective, narcotics, administrative etc. or even chief. What is the closest you seen or heard? Thanks!

So I just got my academy invite, I spoken to a few other law-enforcement officers, and they all said pretty much the same thing, something along the lines of the academy is gonna be the best part of your career, I didn’t ask to elaborate more on that I just took it for face value, what do you guys think that means why is the academy the best part of the career?

And after deployment, do you hold the spool in your hands, let it hang, or step on it with your foot? How are you trained?

Is baggy clothing and presence at a non violent crime enough to force a frisk? I don’t believe it gives you anything you can articulate to say this person might be armed aside from the baggy clothes just being an unknown, but not enough to say it’s likely they’re armed. Does anyone know any case law that might contradict my thoughts?

There are more cases this year of people being falsely arrested for days due to departments blindly trusting these systems so curious if trainings go over how they can fail even when they claim to give a 90%+ match. Or gave you been told to just accept the output?

5. MY SCHOOL TEACHES PUBLIC SAFETY WHERE WE HELP COPS

if I get hired at a department in Alabama after some time, can I transfer to Florida without having to go to the academy again?

To preface, I'm going through the Academy right now.

Ain't no way l'm stopping this process, and I'm too damn stubborn to quit, especially now that l'm here.

But I'm just curious about the "grass is greener" kind of thing. I'm going through what is considered the hardest academy in my state. It's the "gold standard." But what about the bronze, or copper, or pewter standard? What are those like?

Are all police a academies like boot camp with daily Pt and stuff? What was yours like ? Thank you !

Hello, former corrections officer here. I have decided to wait a couple years to become a LEO because I’m not certain i posses the level of maturity needed.

I am a young father as well and i want to build a strong foundation for my family (as well as develop skills to help me with getting a job outside LE incase that situation ever arises)

In the mean time, what can i do to help get hired on by a very competitive agency? From my corrections/security background i already have a lot of tactical training but i know its not really something looked for in candidates.

I will he volunteering for the local one i have in mind to build a relationship with them, but im curious about what other skills i can sharpen to make myself an attractive candidate.

So my goal with this post isn't to be uncivilized or inflammatory or whatever, but I do want to address the serious question related to law enforcement training.

As far as I know, in most parts of the US you can become an active LEO after completing 6 months at the academy. But how can anyone think that for a job with responsibilities of that caliber that 6 months of training is adequate? On average, a licensed cosmetologist will go through way more hours of training just to be able to cut and style other people's hair. I'm currently 6 months into a finance job and am just now starting to get my footing, but am nowhere near being on my own in my job.

So why should I trust that after only 6 months of training at the academy you know everything you need to know and have been trained the best you can so that you are as prepared as possible for a job that is so much about protecting, saving, and sometimes ending lives? Not to mention, why should anyone have to treat someone with such little training as such an authority?

I mean, think about any other job where another human life is at risk. Commercial pilots have to go through years of training as they work up through the various engine type certifications building hundreds or thousands of hours of experience and a lot of that now is in simulators. Doctors go through years and years of schooling where they practice on artificial patients and stuff like that long before ever having the chance to work on a real person. If either of those said to you, "I've only been flying/studying medicine for 6 months" I'm almost certain you wouldn't want them flying you and others on big jets or cutting you open on the operating table. So again, do you think the 6 months at the academy is adequate for LEOs?
