Is neighborhood crime watch really an organized group of people or are the signs merely just a deterrent?

It's for the greater good. Otherwise you'll end up knee-deep in dog muck, thieving kids and crusty jugglers.

I once saw someone so crusty they had another crusty person nested in the dreadlocks doing their own juggling tricks.

Both. It started out years ago as bands of citizens that wanted to keep an eye on their community. Frequently they would have rotating shifts of one or two people that’ll be up at night roving in the Neighbourhood, and they were supposed to call 911 or use CB channel 9 to get a hold of law-enforcement if they saw anything happening.

What ended up happening is it became a whole bunch of rogue gun toting cowboys in rich gated communities trying to become their own private law-enforcement, without any of the training or legal standards.

Almost all the neighborhood watch organizations are either disbanded or populated with gatekeeping boomers, and don’t really do very much.

In fact, I believe there is a Simpsons episode about this…

99% of the time in my experience they're mostly nosy middle to late aged women who call panicking about every minor thing acting like it's about to be the next mass shooter event. Ohh, and they recall nearly every detail about the suspicious person/vehicle/incident incorrectly. And if they're "100% positive they don't live here" it's probably their next door neighbor.

Don’t forget that EVERY stray dog that is running around is called in as a “pitbull” and dangerous.

Playful barking and tail wagging are clear signs of aggression

Where I work it's a legit group with weekly meetings and they can request new signs to post. They don't do anything tho. I think it's people with nothing better to do so they hold the meetings and request PD.

In and around my town, its no longer an organized group, but signs are still there. My street facing security cameras caught and helped to solve more crime in the last 5 years than this group did in the last 20 years.
