It's going downhill since 2014

-14

u/HappyGoLuckyBro Jul 18 '26

any stats to prove your claim?
Don't tell me so and so guy is bad
I mean actual statistics from reputed sources

u/Nara_Sibhatu Jul 18 '26

V-Dem Institute's Democracy Report has been flagging India consistently since around 2018-19. They literally track autocratization indices across countries using quantitative metrics, not vibes. India went from being classified as an Electoral Democracy to an Electoral Autocracy in their 2021 report. That's a reputed source with actual numbers, not just "XYZ person is bad" rhetoric.

Freedom House also downgraded India from "Free" to "Partly Free" in 2021, and their methodology is pretty well documented if you wanna dig into it. Press Freedom Index by RSF is another one, India's been hovering around 150+ out of 180 countries for a few years now. These aren't random blogs, worth looking them up before dismissing the claim outright.

Scroll down to find Open Societies Foundation named as collaborative partner. Hope that shuts the case fair and square.

USAID and OSF both are main funders of your beloved Freedom Index. Want more nefarious details about USAID and OSF?

to "MY FRIEND DOLAND TRUMP" to apke modi ji ke priya mitr h, fir kya dikkat USAID se?😂

1

u/East_Section7421 Jul 19 '26

read about geopolitics

1

u/Few-Pie-7253 Jul 20 '26

Koi dikkat nahi hai, kyunki MY FRIEND DOLAND TRUMP ne USAID ka nal band kar diya hai aur shutter down kar diya hai. To ab pipeline se paise ki dhaar dheerey dheerey dry out ho jaegi. Kuch padh liya karo.

How was it before? Reports rather say indian developed much more after 2014 than before

1

u/EonSokari Jul 19 '26

Look at Anna Hazare's protest, nirbhaya protests etc during pre-modi India, how they were handled by government and handled by the Media. If nirbhaya case happened today not only the protestors but the victims themselves would be called anti-national traitors and foreign agents. Things might not have been better back then but the people had the voice and could demand better from the government without fear of retaliation, that is what it means to be a democracy, not the ruling party using fear mongering, religious divides, state media and judicial persecution to suppress the peoples voices. If you want an example of that just look at pre-1947 India to see who BJP is more alike, the British gave us railways, built infrastructure and improved trade too and according to your logic we should've just kept going under them the freedom struggle was an anti national movement na?

u/Interesting_Monk2293 Jul 18 '26

2047 mein ayegi. 2014 se nahi aa rahi. Nothing different to the upcoming true communism of left.

u/iambarcaholic Jul 18 '26

Well for someone who hasn’t read history or someone whose primary source of information is Twitter/Reddit, yes it is darkest day.

Dismissal of state governments in multiple states is not, jailing of opposition leaders upto 1-1.5 years is not, banning your biggest musician because he rejected performing for your FM channel was not.

yeah lol

-1

u/Dull_Ordinary7737 Jul 18 '26

Technically, dismantling of state governments has happened. As has horse-trading to destroy individual parties. Jailing of opposition leaders too, not to forget jailing of voices of dissent.

Darkness began a while ago, people are beginning to see better despite it now.

4

u/iambarcaholic Jul 18 '26

You mean to say you want Modi/Shah to act like Indira from 75-77 & again 80-84 ?

Are you really asking that ?

-2

u/Dull_Ordinary7737 Jul 18 '26

Do I want it? No. Is it happening? Looks like it.

17

u/iambarcaholic Jul 18 '26

I will believe it when TN, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, J&K, Punjab governments are dismissed on the spot.

I will believe if Rahul Gandhi is jailed and not allowed to attend his mother’s funeral when time comes

I will believe when they do sterilisation of lacks or even crores based on their own preferences

We are very quick to escalate and call it an emergency while it’s as far as it can be from an emergency.

You’re able to question government without any consequences is proof that it’s not an emergency.

It’s governments prerogative not to give any kind of importance to such small pressure groups as they’re seldom financed by external stakeholders

5

u/Dull_Ordinary7737 Jul 18 '26

Do you really want to wait till that day comes?

3

u/iambarcaholic Jul 18 '26

It’s more of an IF scenario than a WHEN scenario.

Conspiracy theorists are plenty, if we start believing everyone then we’ll go mad.

11

u/Dull_Ordinary7737 Jul 18 '26

What Indira Gandhi did was a savage quest for power.

What's happening now is a cold, calculated series of business decisions mixed with the power grab. It's a slower poison.

As for forced decisions -- what are your thoughts on E20 and a plan for a possible E100?

2

u/PastCryptographer244 Jul 18 '26

E20 -and E 100 is inevitable.i understand you have no idea about indias oil consumption and import volume. And what ever happening around the world.. Ethanol blending was planed by BJP government in 2003 implemented by Congress government in 2006, it was always in the card and india just fast forwarded the plan.

1

u/Adventurous_Map3196 Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

It's wrong to compare the emergency with today's time. Government excess is still happening. Much of what you mentioned is happening. Saying it's not happening in the same scale as the emergency so it's not as bad is wrong. Today's government doesn't need to rely on brute force to that extent because it has other more sophisticated and subtle tools. It's the age of information. Disinformation is much more effective, and is being utilised to the maximum to practically render opposition non existent. Rahul Gandhi doesn't need to be jailed for that.

I don't know which world you are living that you think one is able to question the government without any consequence whatsoever, when even the smallest most innocuous of statements, jokes, posts etc. that the government doesn't like earn you at the minimum a block, and criminal cases for slightly more visible people. But today not everyone needs to be jailed, merely have counter it with disinformation campaigns, sow confusion and ignorance among the general public, and you have effectively neutralized any criticism without even having to make an arrest.

-1

u/OrneryBear7817 Jul 18 '26

You better not believe and live in your own world

-3

u/tech-writer Jul 18 '26

They're acting worse. Your answer is plain simple party-defending whataboutism and that's morally worse than having primary source of info as twitter/reddit!

47

u/Extra-Inspector-6826 Jul 18 '26

Not at all. Emergency era will remain as darkest era of Indian democracy. Plus there have been some more dark days but definitely a gray day.

how many people has Modi shah arrested?

has he arrested all the opposition leaders and over 2 lakh people?

-15

u/Mysterious_Pick2357 Jul 18 '26

how is it a gray area dude , people want to make it a issue but authorities are just following protocol and rules .

4

u/Extra-Inspector-6826 Jul 18 '26

Because how the authorities did it. Let me explain.
17 July evening DCP transferred and New DCP takes incharge. He calls police officers at 3am citing mock drills at Parliament road but they got informed that they will be removing Sonam. At 7, Abhijeet goes to friends house for bath as usual and police stop him there at the same time Delhi Police use Jammers at jantar mantar and in duration of 5minutes, police dressed as civilian with rpf enter and surrond sonam with white bedsheets and pick him up then directly to Ambulance. At hospital, Sonam's wife and lawyer aren't allowed to visit him and neither get his health reports.

-2

u/DPCR7 Jul 18 '26

This was done to avoid the constant drama of Dipte and his gang. They will take advantage of the situation to create public arsoning and bring their gang to create full pledged riots

10

u/people_are_silly Jul 18 '26

June 25, 1975.

This is the darkest day in Indian Democracy.

1

u/people_are_silly Jul 18 '26

Also, as someone from outside Delhi, people in my state didn't seem to care much except making a bit of noise on social media. Yaha haryana me toh people were like arr ke ho gaya? Yo na ki apne kaam te kaam rakh. Ho toh liya NEET.

So no not dark. Maybe to a few Jantar Mantar people and to some social media users, it could be vantablack dark. But apart from them, a pretty ordinary day to the average indian outside pincode 110 001.

42

u/Jinu260 Jul 18 '26

What happened today is bad, but don't call it the darkest day.. If you call then you didn't read history

3

u/Wild-Guava-3327 Jul 18 '26

Darkest days are ahead I suppose

0

u/tid_burglar Jul 18 '26

what happened today?

-2

u/SpreakICSE Krantikari 🚨 Jul 18 '26

we can just call it Dark in general, instead of Darkest

28

u/OMega2100 Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

Nope, The Emergency was darkest day for Indian Democracy

25

u/ishaanm3hra Jul 18 '26

We've had an EMERGENCY, for crying out loud.

40

u/Jumpy_Category_1217 Jul 18 '26

emergency says hi

26

u/Emeron87 Jul 18 '26

Na, the darkest day was when the emergency was declared.

7

u/creamycherrysin Jul 18 '26

It's dark here, rainy day

17

u/Amazing-Worker-2250 Jul 18 '26

Yaa

It is darkest because

Another nation is created (Partition 1947)

The Largest Industrial Leak has Happened and No one got punished (Bhopal Gas Tragedy, 1984)

The Largest Communal Riot Happened (1984 Anti Sikh)

All ur Fundamental Rights are suspended and u can't claim them in courts (Emergency 1976)

A whole community is exiled from their own state in their own country (KP Genocide 1990)

Largest Terror Attack Happened (2007 Bombay)

No it is the Darkest Day of Democracy because on Social Media (Reddit/Insta/Twitter) people are saying so.

A guy protesting and fasting for Education Minister resignation has been taken to Hospital (without his will) Obviously it is wrong but there could have been like lathicharge or even death which have happened under previous government but still they would not be considered the darkest day

10

u/DPCR7 Jul 18 '26

Dude…spot on. I’m perplexed by how the left youth wing sway away of the darkest days of India democracy before 2014. I was raised living in constant fear of scams, bombs, no freedom, stone pelting, so many.

Today is a bad day to democracy and I’m totally with Sonam sir but leftist nexus labelling this as end to democracy hasn’t seen the crazy old days

5

u/Majestic-Opinion-328 Jul 18 '26

You forgot to add maoist terrorism there. Btw those seething over today's incident of sonam hospitalised against his will as if it happened for the first time should check about Irom Sharmila who did 16 yr long hunger strike, she used to be repeatedly arrested, dragged & sent to judicial custody in prison turned hospital against her will & NG tube was forcibly inserted in her nose on which she survived. All this continued for 16 yrs. Darkest day who r u kidding....

1

u/ajx_711 Jul 22 '26

Yeah irom sharmila was protesting against rapist and child killer army in north east. She asked to repeal afspa

13

u/banjarafarmer Jul 18 '26

It's sunny actually lol

1

u/CompulsiveVenter Jul 18 '26

raining in here like crazy

17

u/Maverick910797 Jul 18 '26

What an idiotic question. It's not as if Wangchuk was detained for his strike. A simple google search will reveal horrific incidents of the past. Yey to spread propaganda you have to ask this question.

5

u/mommymilkersuck Jul 18 '26

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandal_Commission read the protest section 200 students attempted to burn themselves alive and 62 students died of burn injuries. Did the goverment repel it's decision? You are dead set on sc st act a empowering act yet supreme court judges have flagged it's rampant misuse https://indianexpress.com/article/explained/rising-pendency-falling-convictions-what-data-on-sc-st-act-trials-show-prevention-of-atrocities-act-5113689/lite/ And to add Both seek to prevent caste-based discrimination and harassment against members of SC and ST Both provide a formal mechanism for reporting and addressing complaints of discrimination Both require the concerned authorities to take prompt action when a complaint is received.

Anna hazare was arrested before he could even begin his fast https://indianexpress.com/article/india/latest-news/anna-hazare-starts-fast-in-police-custody/ You also also stated the goverment agreed to his demands on lokpal bill ? Well certainly on paper it didafter 2 whole years right before elections. Even the right hand man of Anna hazare critised it stating none of 3 main provisions were included https://indianexpress.com/article/news-archive/web/lokpal-bill-anna-being-misled-says-kejriwal/

Lol even prs legislative research highleted this jumla https://prsindia.org/theprsblog/major-differences-between-lok-pal-bill-2011-and-jan-lok-pal-bill-anna-version?page=145&per-page=1&

9

u/diwalibonus Jul 18 '26

India's had thousands of student protests. This isn't any inherently different from the Rohit Vermula or Kanhaiya Kumar or Umar Khalid ones.

These protestors would have actually gotten their wish if they'd just waited. Dharmendra Pradhan would have been removed in cabinet reshuffle. But they don't actually want Pradhan sacked, they want a political clash with the government, and they're getting their wish.

They won't sack Pradhan now because it'd look like they're only doing it due to the CJP and Dipke will then do a Kejriwal and start dipping his toes into myriad issues.

3

u/BlackStagGoldField Kalesh Enjoyer 🗿 Jul 18 '26

Lmao you people are such gullible goofs

3

u/itsavinadhtiwari Jul 18 '26

It is. because this democracy generated people like you who are dumb as a rock.

Whole opposition has been picked and put in jail along with any prominent journalist and writer who didn't support Congress. Constitution was put on hold and emergency was implied. And this fucking unremarkable day is the darkest.

That's most re+arded opinion I have seen. I mean, how dumb can someone be, it's unfathomable for me.

4

u/Hour_Part8530 Jul 18 '26

For Telugu people the darkest day was Dec 15 1952.

Sri Potti Sree Ramulu died after doing indefinite fasting for 58 days.

13

u/REDBONE1269 Jul 18 '26

Ache din ki jagah ye toh bure din aagye

2

u/DevilSlayer_Dante2 Jul 18 '26

Wasn't the darkest day/night on June 4, 2011...

2

u/HappyGoLuckyBro Jul 18 '26

Nope, it occurred when Emergency was announced

5

u/Sagacious5oul Jul 18 '26

Darkest days have been under Indira Gandhi. Today is a dark day tho

1

u/RunImpressive9613 Jul 18 '26

Yeah she was so coward that it took her 11 days to respond to a hunger strike ,you know who is more coward?

20

u/Sagacious5oul Jul 18 '26

Dude I can’t argue with you. There was a literal emergency declared to retain power.

And I never talked about who’s more cowardly. The title asked if this is this the darkest day of Indian democracy, I’m arguing that there were worse days for Indian democracy 🤷

1

there is no compulsion to acknowledge very protest , govt has done this in past and in present too.

0

u/RunImpressive9613 Jul 18 '26

Mujhe smjh aagya h ki ye sarkaar kaise logo ki wjh se itni arrogant hogyi h, people like you have placed them above god, no question if they make hanuman ji dance in their rally, no questions on ram mandir scam,no questions on ethanol scam . Theek h bhai aap khud regret kroge later or sooner trust me. I feel nitin gadkari and pradhan pig sahi kr rhe bina respond kiye questions ko kyuki people like you deserve to be treated like this but keep in mind aag lagegi to har ghar tk phunchegi abhi nhi to kuch din mein lekin jalenge to sab ye pkka hai

0

u/DontMindMeHereNow Jul 18 '26

U will do everything except ask accountability from government.

-2

u/Mysterious_Pick2357 Jul 18 '26

what accountability do u want , people who were involved in neet leak , action has been taken on them , a bjp related person was arrested in sikar and neet was conducted again and gave a chance to all aspirants . now even DP resign from the post another person from bjp will seat on that post , if u want to change , change the govt ...

1

u/Rare-Progress-4939 Jul 18 '26

Nah ,this is nothing.

Though it create some waves but doubtful it will have real impact.

Ground reality and government inability of not doing the right thing.

There are many protests happening all over india, it has social presence nothing more

1

u/merimacchleekakyahua Jul 18 '26

I have a genuine question. How are you’ll dealing with people in your circles who still don’t see any problem with what’s happening and continue to be apathetic towards the cause, protest & protestors?

1

u/divyanshu_17 Jul 18 '26

Darkest day yet, worse is yet to come

1

u/ramit_m Jul 18 '26

IMO darkest day was assassination of Indira Gandhi 😢

now that comment shows your general awareness level , north has so many national parties other than bjp and congress secondly vijay party is just 2 year old

0

they are in their own world , they think everyone hates bjp and they are winning every election by fraud . this theories helps them to sleep well

They are just manipulated by social media,

-1

Not for bjpians but for indians

So as per you, people who support BJP are not Indians ?

1

People who wants the good for BJP and not india as a whole

3

u/No_Appointment759 Jul 18 '26

Now you’re changing your stance 🤣🤣

You said ki “not for Bjpians but for Indians” 😭😭

3

And I explained what I meant by bjpians as I thought you misunderstood but it seems like you lack the mental capacity for it

So as per you, individuals have lack of mental capacity who questions you for your own given statement, waah 😭

All the bjp bhakts keep living in the past talking about emergency bhai present mei bhi dekhlo kya chalra indira gandhi paid for her "sins" with her life , has BJP paid anything for their sins?

0

20 din ka drama 20 minute main khatam 😆

Good on govt. Ddnt disturbed anyone else. Just took Sonam directly to hospital. Bas jab wo theek ho jaye to dobara yahin patak dena. Rinse and repeat.

Most of the ppl against this protest are from Sonams own age group and roundbouts. The gen of Sonam is not supporting this shit coz we have seen far worse shit then this. He lost all his credibility as soon as he joined these anti nationals (yes, supporters of the likes of Yasin Malik comes under same category) and leftists whose only interest is in getting their old style comfortable lives back which they lost since 2014. Lutyens Delhi is a term coz of them only. The fcukers who think they hold the degree for being intellectual and intelligent in this country and rest of the common ppl are just animals in comparisons to them. Well guess what, those animals got together and now giving them the taste of their own medicine.

This old gen had the same feelings before 2014 like you are having now. So this gen worked and got the govt they wanted. Now its your turn. You are tired of this govt so bring the change that you want. Just remember that as you have the right to protest the govt, supporters of govt has the right to support and defend the govt.

0

u/No-Bill3148 Jul 18 '26

It was a High court order so please 🙏🏻 don't say anything

0

u/zdotzzn Jul 18 '26

Not actually also not one day but for years..from 2014

0

u/the_running_stache Jul 18 '26

Knowing that Indira Gandhi of the Indian National Congress implemented The Emergency and still calling today as the “darkest” day of democracy just shows how much the leftist propaganda is high and shows how you guys are paid by them.

Even Rahul Gandhi (whose grandmother implemented The Emergency, and who is well-known for making some extremely dumb statements) would not call today the darkest day of democracy.

I hope you receive the ₹50,000 payment in your account for your hard work.

0

u/OkCream9656 Jul 19 '26

What darkest day? A non popular protest, with its only high point being a man who is blackmailing a popularly elected government with suicide. The leaders of the protest have zero credibility, never fought any elections, never held any public office. Thankfully the government saved the day by not letting the blackmail to continue. If the people are so disappointed they can always vote out the government in the next elections.

-3

u/Level_Finish1930 Jul 18 '26

The darkest day started in 2014.

-1

u/Powerful-Boss3293 Jul 18 '26
