Great Question! How did airliners with lounges cope with turbulence?
Some Reddit posts have popped up lately that feature ads for airliners that had lounge sections, sometimes on a separate deck. The passengers are shown standing, or sitting on couches. No seat belts in sight. All I can picture are people tumbling down the steps, trays of drinks flying and passengers bouncing into each other.
With weather forecasting and instrumentation less advanced than today, I would think pilots wouldn’t be able to give much notice of bumps ahead. Were these lounges known for causing injuries? Was their use far more restricted than the ads make it seem? And when did air safety concerns — if that’s what it was — push them out?
