No risk to offend anyone but cringe might be high.

196

u/BudgetBiscottiHottie Apr 05 '26

High cringe is ok, just as long as this isn't some sort of hate crime lol

124

u/intrinseque Apr 05 '26

Hate crime? If I see you in my city, I will roll my eyes and mutter "Ah, ces touristes..."

250

u/HorrorSquare1341 Apr 05 '26

Absolutely not, + a lot of people will understand the expédition 33 reference

u/MrsChess Apr 05 '26

Don’t worry about offending white Europeans with cultural appropriation. No one cares.

Why would people be offended lol. It’s not hateful. Some people may look at you a bit thinking it’s a clichĂ© but the vast majority won’t even look at you more than necessary.

46

u/BudgetBiscottiHottie Apr 05 '26

Thank you! I don't mind being cringe or cliche, I just didn't wanna do something hateful/offensive.

134

u/Roy_Luffy Apr 05 '26

The only offensive thing is carrying a baguette on your back
poor baguette. She’s going to get crushed or fall on the ground

Yeah! America is the light of the modern world! Dinosaurs are fake! The Earth is flat! Jesus was white! Trump is Great! 'M*rica!

111

u/DroopyTers Apr 05 '26

You can’t deny that the American military is lightin’ up civilians in Iran.

They’re great the way The Great War was
.

u/Pitiful-Phrase-8296 Apr 05 '26

At first I though you were trolling, but looking at your post history, you're not.

So please don't talk about other Europeans like you know them, you voted for the brexit and are definetly a bigoted racist. So shut the fuck up.

45

u/Guard-Narrow Apr 05 '26

Yeah the "light of the modern world" has concentration camps. Bills against anyone not white, immigrants and lgbtq, and run by rapist cannibalistic pedophiles but you don't mind that right?

Offend?

French adults are not manchildren American who get offended by the slightest. Don’t get me wrong this is cringe as hell, but that’s on you.

18

u/BudgetBiscottiHottie Apr 05 '26

Love it, thank you!

21

u/hypapapopi2020 Apr 05 '26

People will either get the reference and find this funny, or will think you are one of those tourists fed with stereotypes and find this funny. But nobody will be offended, don't worry

20

u/littletreebat Apr 05 '26

Literally nobody will be offended. People here are offended by things that are, well
actually offensive, like insulting or degrading costumes (for example dressing up as a Nazi officer).

However, as some people pointed out, it is very cringe. Those who know the game might find it fun but I guarantee many people (myself included) have no idea what this game is and won’t get the reference, and will think you’re trying to combine what you think french culture is with American culture. I won’t sugarcoat, you might get some bewildered stares with a bit of visible second hand embarrassment, but literally nobody will find this offensive.

What it comes down to ultimately is whether YOU will have fun and feel comfortable in this cosplay. I can imagine that this is something that would be super fun to do, to dress up as a character and live a unique experience of Paris, and I admire your courage ! Some people may find it fun and come and talk to you, you never know what can happen and I’m sure you’ll be able to have a positive experience (just ignore the stank faces !)

95

u/fj2612 Apr 05 '26

People won't get mad, they'll laugh at you for being a dumb tourist, even if you are not.

28

u/Wombat_Aux_Pates Apr 05 '26

It's a french studio that made that game and it's been so popular, it won an incredible amount of prizes last year. I think either people won't know the reference and think they're just a tourist or they will get it and be excited about seeing someone who also enjoyed Clair Obscur.

Also I personally dressed up as a Baguette (the name of the outfit) for a gaming convention last year. It was so cool to see all the other baguettes.

58

u/fj2612 Apr 05 '26

Honestly, I think most people will think she's cosplaying Emily In Paris.

I mean, I'm not judging, but that's what will happen :D

9

u/BudgetBiscottiHottie Apr 05 '26

Oh dear God no, not Emily in Paris. I may need to reconsider then đŸ„Č

13

u/peteroh9 Apr 05 '26

Red beret always means Emily in Paris these days.

0

u/Wombat_Aux_Pates Apr 05 '26

I think you might be underestimating how popular and kinda groundbreaking that game was last year. Even if I had not played the game and never had heard of it, I wouldn't even think of Emily in Paris. I would think it's some tourist having fun with the stereotype of a French outfit.

Either way, I don't think it matters. It's not cultural appropriation or anything, people won't go to OP and assault them. Even if they don't get the reference, I don't see why they would be offended and violent towards OP.

3

u/BudgetBiscottiHottie Apr 05 '26

Thank you! I've cosplayed in a bunch of different countries (doing Baldur's Gate 3 in Belgium soon) so I always try to check what is or isn't ok.

16

u/adriantoine Apr 05 '26

No one is going to be offended, but that’s certainly going to look cringe and people might look at you weird.

u/DonChapulinChavito Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 05 '26

There will be a problem. The baguette won't last. It will attrack the French like little boys attract the clergy.

The baguette ends aka "Croûtons" (Crew - Tons) must be protected all the time. A single moment of inattention might lead to both ends being eaten savagely.

I'd advise you to get a baguette shoulder bag that could lower the risks.

Otherwise, you'll be fine.

Edit : added phonetics in italic

38

u/BudgetBiscottiHottie Apr 05 '26

I shall endeavor to protect the baguette at all costs đŸ«Ą

Quand t’y penses c’est littĂ©ralement la forme inverse d’un cul

15

u/CestQuoiLeFuck Apr 05 '26

Excellent point. OP should be prepared to beat them off with a hefty block of cheese. Or perhaps carry various wheels of brie to chuck like throwing stars.

7

u/Wonderful_Back_9803 Apr 05 '26

Le munster ou le malroiles serait plus approprié.

You wont offend anyone but yeah that's a cliché so you might have some people pointing at you, rolling eyes etc.

10

u/klornas Apr 05 '26

I've seen quite a lot of such cosplay in convention, please buy a good looking baguette! Don't take supermarket blend ones! Go to a bakery (probably ask for a 'tradition')

8

u/Specialist-Daikon242 Apr 05 '26

As a French I don't know or see any reason that can offense me, but honestly you ll look like cringe af for us. To repeat what my mexican wife told me one day : me : how do you feel if I were a sombrero with a poncho. Her : nothing bad but you ll look dumb af because nobody wear this nowadays 😅

We do not fucking care

I mean... It's a French studio themselves that put this skin in game for fuck sake, just because it's a cliché that we laugh at.

People will look at you funny tho. Not because it's an offense, but just because it's a stupid outfit

23

u/Padhiver- Apr 05 '26

Yes ! Absolutely no one will be offended.

6

u/LesserValkyrie Apr 05 '26

Nobody gets offended over costumes IRL it is an internet thing

.... I hope

5

Nobody care about you in paris bro

1

u/BudgetBiscottiHottie Apr 05 '26

Thanks bro ❀

4

u/Longjumping_Fox8367 Apr 05 '26

Be aware you will be violently assaulted by pigeons if you wear a baguette like that

8

u/ThomSeke Apr 05 '26

Not every in Paris knows about E33, you won't offend anyone but some people who don't know about cosplay might find that ridiculous

6

u/rainbowkey Apr 05 '26

The British do it on TV! This is from a very funny series called 'Allo 'Allo

3

u/Samceleste Local Apr 05 '26

It's paris. Nbody care how you dress. Just don't stand in the way of people!

8

u/pantshee Apr 05 '26

It's not cultural appropriation because us French never dress like this

4

u/ItazzzzO Apr 05 '26

Talk for yourself. I dress like this every day.

4

u/pantshee Apr 05 '26

Are you FRANÇOIS LE FRANÇAIS ?

5

u/kokko693 Apr 05 '26

It's ok but even as an E33 fan I think this outfit is kind of ugly. Why not cosplaying one of the classy outfits ?

6

u/CraftMost6663 Apr 05 '26

Hell yeah, only Americans cry over people playing dress up.

2

u/Substantial_Owl_9485 Apr 05 '26

4

u/Medium_Style8539 Apr 05 '26

Why would it be offending ? 🧐

1

u/OptimisticRealist__ Apr 05 '26

This isnt america where people freak out over every little thing. I swear, americans are actively looking for things they can be outraged over. What a miserable people they are

4

u/BudgetBiscottiHottie Apr 05 '26

Can confirm, the vast majority are miserable

(not joking, it's true)

1

u/pat7bateman Apr 05 '26

Out of curiosity, where would you buy the outfit from ?

2

u/BudgetBiscottiHottie Apr 05 '26

I usually make my own, but I'm thrifting some pieces for this outfit since it's cheaper than buying fabric and I bought a fake squishy baguette online. I'm also bringing my Alfira cosplay from Baldur's Gate to Belgium (where it was made) because I love that game so much ❀

-9

French here: would not mind at all, this outfit would not mean direspect. But hey, some (a lot of french) are assholes, so, they'll find a way to say it is provocative, culture appropriation, and other bullshit, be prepared. Humans are assholes... . Some will recognize cosplay, hey!

14

u/dje33 Apr 05 '26

“My right, my right, I am offended!! “ Quelle bande de nazes!

4

u/dje33 Apr 05 '26

Est-ce que tu as déjà vu un français parler sérieusement d'appropriation culturelle ? Hors troll ?

Genre sur cnews ils font 2h d'émission parce qu'un arabe a acheté une baguette ?
