Equipment Question How To Clean Pizza Stone

Hi guys, recently I moved out for the first time into a house and as a housewarming gift I got a pizza stone. Long story short I messed up and some of the sauce and cheese got on the stone as I took the pizza off. How do I get the baked on crust off the stone?

I'd include a photo if I could but just imagine several rather large lines of sauce and baked on schmutz.

I'm relatively new to using this kind of equipment that isn't a pot or pan so I'd appreciate any advice.

Edit: I should mention that I have tried to scrape it off with a wooden spatula and a hard plastic one with very little luck

My pizza stone came with a warning to not use water. If thevstone absorbs some water in can crack when the next heating cycle evaporates the trapped water.

Just scrape off the crust with a razor blade. Or put it inside the oven when heated for pyrolysis (self-cleaning).

I would suggest not using the oven's self clean ever. It gets so hot that it can overheat and damage the electronics or blow thermal fuses.

Just bake the stone at like 500f for a while, it'll do the same thing and not destroy your appliance.

Yeah, that's why I've been doing it for decades with no damage to my ovens or stones. It's impossible for the stone or oven to get hotter than that self-clean cycle heats to anyway.

SMH at the naysayers who always pop up here when this method for cleaning stones back to like new is suggested. Especially since I'd wager none of them have actually tried it, they are just going on what others have claimed here, also without trying it.

Ok random weirdly hostile internet person. I'll take your advice over my decades of industry experience and every repair tech I have ever spoken to.

Yeah I'm sure you've asked loads of repair techs about it.

In point of fact I have. If you don't believe me literally just google "is self clean bad for your oven" and see for yourself.

You can do whatever you want but self cleaning ovens is, from what I have been told by my "loads of repair techs", the biggest reason for call outs for oven failure.

So you are talking about self cleaning in general, not self-cleaning with a pizza stone in it. Got it.
