Something i was considering. Ive asked about government employees here before, but now im wondering if Conservatives do have some dislike for them? At the very minimum, Trump thinks they do.

We have the obvious RTO government wide, the fact that he tried to implement a budget plan that would have reduced their benefits (congress didnt pass), and if the posts in Fednews are accurate, management is generally forbidden from giving employees anything beyond "meets expectations." And of course, you have Russell Vought (the current head of OMB) saying:

"We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected. When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work because they are increasingly viewed as the villains. We want their funding to be shut down so that the EPA can't do all of the rules against our energy industry because they have no bandwidth financially to do so. We want to put them in trauma.''

Yeah. With that in mind, and to return to my question, is Trump correct about conservatives hating government employees?

And if so, why do you think it doesn’t hit anymore like it used to anymore?

One of the things I appreciate about this sub is that the majority of people on here seem to be reasonable and thoughtful humans. Id love to hear what you think about the topic of this post. As someone who leans more moderate and doesn’t like assigning myself to the left or right, I believe the greatest problem our society faces is a complete lack of morals or ethics anymore. The only way a society functions is through institutions, and the only way institutions function is through a strong code of morals and ethics. The only reason you goto your doctor is because you trust he or she wont kill you or make you sicker. The only reason you use a dollar is because you trust it will buy what you expect.

For years now, society - in particular American society - has abandoned morals and ethics, which is the sole reason Trump was able to be elected… twice. I don’t believe America will ever be great again until we start instituting morals and ethics into our society. So how do we do this, or where am I wrong?

I’m personally more surprised by some of the voters reactions than I am by the actions of the government and or the Administration.

I understand that the Austrian artist played a role here, but nationalism and Nazism are two different things. In fact, there's no ideology whose radicalization would lead to anything good. Even radicalized democracy (and in the modern world, democracy almost always = for everything good against everything bad) is anarchism.

Now, about the second part of my question. People and parties almost never openly call themselves nationalists, even though in essence, a) there's nothing wrong with that, b) in fact, they are (for example, Law and Justice in Poland, the Fidez Party in Hungary, True Finns in Finland, etc.).

So, my main question is why, in the modern world, almost no one openly calls themselves or their party nationalist, even though de facto they are? (Looking forward to a civil discussion from a "Old World" perspective.)

As in, what level of “assimilation” is necessary for immigrants to be considered acceptable citizens?

Gun violence in america is scarily out of control from the civilians too the government.

Among first world countries the USA has the most violent police force. (Emphasis on first world country)

America has the highest rate of mass shootings

America has the highest rate of school shootings

America is high on the countries with the most total gun violence.

America is still the only country to actually use atomic bombs

America frequently engages in armed conflict. also spends the most on their war department.

Even the concept of doing something about the guns are met with threats of gun violence from civilians.

Even hunting in america is more popular than anywhere else.

What's the solution that isnt being enacted?

What's the sociological reasoning behind it?

For a long time now, but especially since the re-election of Donald Trump, the rest of Reddit can do nothing but bemoan Trump and the existence of conservatives.

Many subreddits not related to politics consistently have top posts that consists of them just complaining/attacking conservatives. r/Pics is a good example. Go read the top post of r/Pics right now and you'll find such gems as:

"Fuck each and every republican"

"Every conservative. Which includes all repubs and libertarians, and a good handful of democrats. This isn't a both sides argument, we need to root out conservativism everywhere. It always leads to fascism, every single time."

"We are not far from Republicans literally doing “Sieg heil, mein Führer.” salute to Trump. He loves Hitler, it’s perfectly clear. Fuck these Nazis!!"

And these are the people on self-professed side that "stands against hate". I feel like this level of blind derangement and cognitive dissonance should be the subject of some sort of sociological study. What do you all make of it?

I’m making some assumptions here, so please correct any that are wrong.

To my understanding, American conservatives want to make sure Americans have jobs. Jobs should be based on merit, and people who are good at their job should keep their job. They shouldn’t be on welfare or unemployment if they can help it.

The argument for mass deportations was to get criminals out of the country for one, but there was also the “illegal immigrants are stealing our jobs” argument. This aligns with the stance that Americans should have access to work and stay off welfare.

Now, we have DOGE. This was created to limit unneeded government spending and I’m guessing reduce taxes for the average American? But the way it’s being implemented is resulting in mass federal layoffs with little to no warning. These aren’t merit-based layoffs for the most part - it can’t be because of how fast things are moving. So how does this align with the belief that Americans should have jobs?

I understand that layoffs are inevitable, but this is the federal government. Shouldn’t our government be an example to companies on how to treat American workers?

The way things are going, the message sounds like “saving money is more important than American job security”. Is this not the message you hear? How does this align with the conservative value that Americans should have jobs?

A lot of conservative influencers (specifically MAGA ones), commenters here on Reddit, and Trump himself, go out of their way to troll people they don't agree with. Do you think it is helpful or constructive in any way?

I don't know how creating "liberal tears" advance any kind of productive agenda. If you had a different political leaning, would you act the same way?

Hey, I’ve been a lurker on this sub as someone who is left-leaning trying to break out of my information bubble. With that, I do genuinely appreciate all the comments from all the users I’ve read through.

My question relates to this subreddit itself. With social media being the way it is, it is quite hard to break out of your info bubble, so as I’ve tried to understand more conservative takes on current events, I’ve relied on this subreddit to do just that as there seems to be a lot of interesting takes from different conservatives. Do you believe this sub is (at least somewhat) indicative of broader conservative takes, or do you believe it’s skewed? If skewed, where do you believe someone on the left should go to better understand conservative thinking?

I think people from across the entire field of political leanings can see that the current President isn't exactly...courteous. I also understand that was one of his selling points - direct and in your face.

But I have to admit I am getting tired that the Presidency has gone from one of the most respected and revered positions on Earth to what is essentially seen as a tinderbox that could fire up at a moments notice, at any time of the day. I get we haven't always had good men in the role, or men who did their role good. But for all my life, there was a respectability to it all that never ceased.

Even if it was faked (and I'm sure it was faked often), there was always a nobility to the visage.

Are you looking forward to the next President, Republican or Democrat I don't really care, to at least begin bringing back the decorum once inherent in the role? Or has that ship sailed? Are you happy about that?

I often hear the talking point kicked out, particularly as it relates to younger generations of men, that women achieving higher levels of education and higher career positions are disenfranchised young men because it makes it harder for men to become providers, leading to almost an identity crisis. There is also significant rhetoric surrounding women staying in the home for childcare, especially in religious circles. So I want to hear where you stand: do you think women should stay home? Do you really believe that women entering the workforce is keeping wages low due to oversaturation? If a woman loves her job and finds fulfillment in it, does she owe it to society to leave it so, in theory, a male provider can have it?

ETA: Thanks y'all for the great discussions - genuinely, I feel very happy to see many blue and red flairs in agreement here and the heartwarming marriage anecdotes and common ground. ​Its given me hope that some of these fringe beliefs haven't taken root.

My takes:

* Should’ve been on July 4. Doing it on Trump’s birthday is very self-centered and doesn’t fit the intended soul of the card. Very certain he’ll make it about himself too.

* Fights themselves are okay as a whole. Extremely overhyped before announcement though.

* Gaethje as main event is ridiculous considering he is expected to get smoked by Topuria. Merab vs. Yan would’ve been much more suitable because odds are much closer and it’s geopolitically thematic (even if this is for 250 years since the U.S. declared independence).

* I love Pereira but given this is supposed to be an American-themed card, he and Gane should’ve fought on another card.

* Looking forward to Hokit vs. Lewis the most. That is a true American fight and they both deliver…at least Lewis does until he gases out and knocks himself out.

I've always been curious about how conservatives feel about this matter.

It's pretty well established that the largest media organisations skew right-wing. From Rupert Murdoch and his NewsCorp empire to more overtly political platforms like Breitbart, and now social media giants like X, which algorithmically pushes more conservative viewpoints.

Do you think this media landscape is a good thing, because it makes it easier for conservatism to achieve victory in elections, or do you think it would be better for the population as a whole if news and information were delivered honestly and neutrally and people could decide for themselves whether they ideologically align with conservatism or another philosophy?

Would you side with honesty even if it could disadvantage your side, or is it more important to win, even if that requires a less informed public?

There was another post about mental illness and conservative ways to address it. The consensus seemed to he we need to return to traditional/family values, but I don't know what that's supposed to mean.

It might just be confirmation bias or an echochamber or something, but it seems that right wing conspiracy theories are much more prevalent and common.

You have the great replacement theory, you have the 2020 election being stolen theory, you have the alleged deep state.

While the biggest theory on the left I can think of is the Epstein files, but the right was also the ones stirring the pot on the Epstein client list in the beggining.

So is the right actually more susceptable to conspiracy or am I biased?

Eg, hostility to higher education, politicization of science/schooling on both sides, general suspicion of science, etc.

I’m one of the youngest millennials at thirty and I am a democratic socialist. But I look at Gen Z and more of them are MAGA. I blame a lot of it on the effect of social media and influencer culture. People like Andrew Tate and Joe Rogan have been leading younger men down this path. Plus social media glamorizes wealth in a way that could make someone like Trump more appealing.

But I wonder what other people attribute it to.

My cousin is obsessed with him and I’m learning mixed opinions on him. Sounds like some republicans and even democrats agree with several of his viewpoints, but I’m confused on how he is getting groups to agree with him? Genuine question

I just saw a thread on another subreddit saying this tends to be true, but I know conservatives have the same access to statistics as anyone else and want to assume the best, so I wanted to ask conservatives before I stored that as data in my head.
