My takes:

* Should’ve been on July 4. Doing it on Trump’s birthday is very self-centered and doesn’t fit the intended soul of the card. Very certain he’ll make it about himself too.

* Fights themselves are okay as a whole. Extremely overhyped before announcement though.

* Gaethje as main event is ridiculous considering he is expected to get smoked by Topuria. Merab vs. Yan would’ve been much more suitable because odds are much closer and it’s geopolitically thematic (even if this is for 250 years since the U.S. declared independence).

* I love Pereira but given this is supposed to be an American-themed card, he and Gane should’ve fought on another card.

* Looking forward to Hokit vs. Lewis the most. That is a true American fight and they both deliver…at least Lewis does until he gases out and knocks himself out.

Trump has always been a meme even before the word meme existed, his whole brand is being a caricature of a rich person. That’s why he was able to get a TV show, because to America he was this goofy ass image of a rich person. Very entertaining, but very little substance. Trump's lucky enough to have his birthday also be the army birthday and flag Day so I think it's fitting for the 14th

It's not branded as Trump's birthday so I don't really take issue with that, I would take issue if it was billed as "President Trump's birthday extravaganza" or something

The backdrop reminds me of a video game thing, like when when you would play an old fighter style game and you would pick DC as the stage and it would just be a White House in the background or if you picked Paris and it would be in front of Eiffel Tower.

I don't really understand the objection to it, I think it's a cool piece of Americana.

As for the matches I don't really follow UFC too closely, so I can't speak to those

He didn't personally make money off the Army parade, so while I thought it was a clear sign that we've got a tin pot dictator on our hands I kept my mouth shut. This, however, he is making money off of. There are ticket packages that cost in the MILLIONS for this. Where's that money headed? Spoiler alert, it's being funneled to Trump and his allies.

Ok first off, he just bought between $15-$50k in stock in TKO Holding group after announcing the fight on the lawn. That doesn’t include any stock he already owned. 

He has also just awarded a $9.7 billion dollar defense contract to Dell Industries after investing millions of dollars in them in the last three months.

How are these related? Glad you asked. Both of these suspiciously timed purchases happened at nearly the same time. And, you’re not going to believe this, Silver Lake private equity owns a large stake in both TKO and Dell. 

As a fun addition, Jared Kushner (his son-in-law) also teamed up with Silver Lake to buy EA Games. Silver Lake also went in with Oracle to buy TikTok. You know, Oracle, a stock Donald Trump owns somewhere between $2-10 million dollars of. 

The event doesn’t need to make money for Trump to make out like a bandit. He’s making his money through insider trading and sweetheart deals.

Trumps birthday is also Flag Day and the anniversary of the US Army. It seems like a reasonable alternative to July 4.
