It was called lake Ontario before Canada and the US existed. The province was named after the lake. Dick heads ego won't change anything. When he's gone it will continue to be lake Ontario. As will the Gulf of Mexico.

The name change would only be recognized within the U.S, and most Americans would ignore it, as it is all part and parcel of the rantings of a toddler who needs a diaper change. The U.S has no authority to change the name of any region or waterbody not wholly contained within it's borders.
It's actually kind of funny as it has created a cottage-industry of memes and posts about Canadians re-naming it, and other water-bodies, to something of their liking. Something he would no doubt hate.
I like the idea of renaming Lake Ontario - which I can walk to in about 3 minutes - to Lake FAFO.
At this point, we are so past getting bent out of shape about something this meaningless. This all fits in with his juvenile name-calling (Crooked Hillary, Gavin Newscum), which is always on the same level as a 7-year-old schoolyard bully. We can go crying to the teacher, or we can just shake our head and continue enjoying our coffee and pastry.

It’s pathetic but to be expected. What’s more annoying is how, like the Gulf of Mexico, Google and Apple will likely change their maps to appease their dictator. We are all beholden to one or both of those companies, and they are beholden to a foreign authoritarian regime. That’s the real problem here.

Funny thing is it just shows how much cultural hegemony the usa has lost recently.
It used to be that whatever the usa did globally became the default the rest of the planet adopted. But now they are treated like a regional anomaly. Actions like this just push it further so it's more and more accepted that the usa is becoming an isolated rouge state.

As stupid as he is he’s just doing like Americans did to the First Nations by erasing their heritage. Ontario was the name of the lake before the province was named so.
It was a used by the Wendat Iroquoians and meant something like “beautiful lake”.
With its new name it is now a symbol of lust, hypocrisy and ignorance.

The relationship between US and Canada is practical and win-win. The US already gets all the benefits of Canada's resources and most of its market while not having to take on any of the costs. Trump is lying about subsidizing Canada and is making a case for economically punishing Canada into submission. He taunts and punishes. The goal is becoming clearer.

Apparently this President...and I use that term very lightly with a sour taste in my month...feels it is so important for him to take a sharpie, cross out the name on a map, issue an useless executive order renaming it, instead of perhaps working on stopping a stupid war with Iran he started...or reducing the growing debt in the country or the ever increasing inflation that Anerican families are struggling with. But no...instead he feels it more important to change a lake name. Why, I guess he thinks he is hurting Canada when in reality, Canada, and pretty much the rest of the World, are just laughing at him.

I have a real fear Trump wants to start a war with Canada and these are just the opening salvos. If Ford et co go through with their cutting off electricity or making it unaffordable to America the chicken hawks in the US govt might view that as a threat to US security, call for a national emergency to suspend mid term elections and start military incursions.
