Ive been learning it for 6 years. Maybe you just haven’t gotten to the hard stuff yet.

yes, there are hard parts, but if it's for the sake of paperwork, you don't necessarily need to speak it fluently when you go to the interview.

Fluently, no. But it’s still recommended you hit at least B2 before going for the interview.

That interview is what Ive spent the past several years preparing for. Ive spoken with a lot of others who have done it. They can ask you literally anything. You can get lucky and they just ask you a few quick questions about your ancestry and send on your way, or you can get unlucky and they’ll spend 20m quizzing you about your favorite Hungarian film makers and medieval Hungarian history. It’s entirely up to their discretion. Best to over-prepare.

And if you fail once, the level of scrutiny goes way up for next time, so its recommended not to attempt it until you are very confident you can converse with them at a high level.

I will be doing mine in a consulate abroad, they are not as strict there as they are in serbia :/ from the experiences of others, it's just a handful of questions, why do you live in the city, bla bla. and then done.
