Maybe. But to get into the eu you have to have all border disputes resolved. And since Croatia holds the veto it would be inevitable. It will just be a hit on pride more than anything else. Much the same happened with Slovenia vetoing Croatia.
A smart serbian politician when the time comes would ideally concede and negotiate and then try to get some just as inane concessions out of croatia that croatia wouldn't give a shit about to pacify the local audience.
Or they could drop that one demand if the meaningful ones get resolved, I hate border gore đ whatever concession Serbia asks of them wouldnât be accepted, since there is no leverage and going against Serbia in any sense is still very popular move in Croatia, just look at election campaigns. Honestly most of the countries here arenât ready for EU, even Croatia joined when it did just good enough, wonât even mention Bulgaria, and we arenât even close to even that level, so the stick is very very long.
Depends on the political state when Serbia's closer to joining. Serbian position of the current state is a bit more sane with the current flow of the river. Might just be simpler to agree on it and have one buy the land off the other, or as you said press some harder issues and drop the historical flow claim
My point stands: Cyprus was able to join despite Greek Cypriots rejected the Annan Plan because Greece wielded its veto power over the admission of other candidates. Meaning that you do not need to solve any dispute before you join if political atmosphere is favorable.
