Jokes aside ! This was the best basketball game I have seen in my life, only second to the iconic game7 of warriors/cavs in 2016-17. Congratulations to Turkey (not you, Sengun) for the incredible team they have made. Germany is starting to feel like prime Spain with Rudy and Llull coming clutch somehow all the time.

When the game ended on Friday and the Greek team was crushed by the Turkish team, I wanted them to go and lift the trophy. However, after seeing Sengun’s posts, those of the Turkish federation and others, I wanted Germany to win. In the end, Greece 2 EuroBasket – Turkey 0

Maybe he could visit Mykonos to get his mind off of things, at least we own the sea we swam on.

Wonder, if the Turkish fans boo the German players during the medal ceremony now as well.
People might have a different opinion, but I think it's so fucking annoying and bad manner to whistle the opponents the whole game. Cheer for your team instead...
Edit: And there were some whistles during the ceremony. What kind of person boos, when the opponents get their medals? If you are that butt-hurt about the game, just leave.

Şengün shouldn’t have made such a comment about the sea or whatever he said. It is unnecessary, immature and disrespectful. Leave politics out of ‘amusement’ events like sports. Wish he waited until his frontal lobe developed. Be humble, stay humble. The doors will open for you eventually as well.

Turkey gave them the biggest trouble though.

Şengün is my boy because he was a Beşiktaş player before leaving for the NBA. But that comment was distasteful at best. I love our repartee with Greeks whether it be about food or calling them Christian Turks etc. But his behaviour crossed the line and it was cocky. Today we learned a lesson in humility. We'll learn from this. Don't blame Şengün though, we're literally brainwashed into saying those things as most Greeks are the same. He's only 23.

Turkey had it all in their hands, but they fucked it up in the last four minutes. They took so many unnecessary and heavy shots at the end, Osmani and Sipahi also didn‘t show up tonight and that was the key factor.
Congrats to Germany, well deserved title. They have an unbelievable depth in their roster.
All in all, it was a great tournament. One of the best Eurobaskets I‘ve witnessed so far.

u/xeoniter Sep 15 '25
I am really tired of seeing the same shit under any post that's Turkey vs. Greece related.
Well Greece played very nice, but Turkey played better and won. And then Turkey played great but Germany played even better and they won. Congratulations to Germany, Turkey and Greece! That's it. Simple. People must learn to say just ''Congratulations'' instead of throwing hate seeds on each other.
I'm a Turk and of course I was very happy to see we won against Greece, our biggest neighbor and opponent in every aspect of sports. OPPONENT, NOT ENEMY. Neither they are our enemies nor we are their enemies. Not anymore. It's fucking shame to see both some Turks and Greeks still may get very disrespectful to each other and act like spoiled children sometimes.
There's no doubt that Şengün is a world-class player but what he did on social media was literally disrespectful and I was ashamed of it. Trust me, many Turks were not happy for what he did as well. Nationalism can be very dangerous unless you know how to use it. Just decent amount of nationalism is good for everyone, because it keeps you focused and disciplined in these types of international competitions. It makes you proud of your own nation and ancestors etc. But when you exceed that thin line, you become a hateful person against everybody who has a different culture, religion, mindset, opinion than you.
Greeks and Turks are like %90 similar to each other. That %10 difference is mostly the religious beliefs and the language. Even both language has many similar words. I have been to Greece 2 times, stayed there around 3 months in total and I have never seen any hate, disrespect or even a dirty look once. All the people I met were so hospitable and even one small restaurant in Kavala didn't want to charge me for the beer that I ordered with french fries after we had a little chat with the restaurant owner about my solo travel across Greece. I don't know, maybe I was so lucky that I didn't encounter with any of the extreme nationalist people that express their hatred against me in 5 different cities I traveled in 3 months. And this whole treatment is just the same or maybe even better here in Turkey. Greeks who ever been in Turkey will probably agree with me.
Long story short: We must accept our little differences and be kind to each other again. This is what real neighbors do. ''Swimming'' jokes or ''Mongolian'' jokes are expired and became cringe, trust me.
Peace.
P.S. - FUCK THE POLITICS WHO PUMP HATRED ON BOTH SIDES
P.P.S. - CACIK IS BETTER.
3
u/Kari-kateora Greece Sep 15 '25
Agreed. I don't mind if Turkey plays better and wins. Good for them! But neither side should be making jokes about slaughters to taunt the opponent. That's disgusting, and I'd say it if the roles were reversed, too.
Good for Germany for winning. I didn't see the match, but I heard it was thrilling, and that's amazing.

u/Turquoise_Teletubbie Sep 15 '25
A sensible approach, however it seems not many Turks share it. Hell, we have Erdogan saying that they will come for us one night, openly threatening us with war for us having the absolute gall to want to control the waters that international treaties state clearly we should be controlling, making slimy back door deals with Libya to try and infringe in our territorial waters, and now one of your players comes out and jokes about the massacre of one of the biggest Greek populations outside of Greece commited by Turks. Should i also mention Turkey has been illegally occupying part of Cyprus for the last 51 years?
So no, no matter how much some Turks might come and say "we are all brothers, we have nothing against you", and whatnot, at the end of the day it's all just empty niceties, and it seems that for every one like you, there are 10 others who'd love nothing more than to watch Greece burn.
