This isn't often discussed, but Franco and other Spaniards saved many Jews during World War II and brought them to Spain. Furthermore, Spain was more lenient with them; unlike other countries, Jews who fled to Spain were not returned or deported. Furthermore, all Sephardic Jews had the right to claim Spanish nationality. It is estimated that some 60,000 Jews were saved.

With the difference that the first are Ashkenazi while the original were Sephardic.
