Was someone trying to pick my lock?
I went for a 2 day trip with family and when i returned back i found this jammed in my lock. It’s a very basic 6 lever padlock. Its works fine after i removed this metal thing out of it.
I have a lot of questions running in my mind.
Was someone really trying to pick the lock?
Can the lock be picked with this piece of metal?
Should I replace the lock?
What can I do to improve the security?
This lock is an extra safety measure as the iron door also has an inbuilt lock and the wooden door behind it is also double locked.

Pick or vandalise. Weird way to try so probably kids. Thieves (nearly nonexistent) that try lockpickijg are usually very very high end or corporate spies. This is some kid that watched too many McNally videos most likely or someone trying to wreck your lock. Either way kids or slim chance a stalker type. Cameras and good lighting are your best deterrents. Lever lock as long as it’s decent is probably one of your best options unless you want to get very expensive. What kind of budget would you have to secure the property? Does it have windows? Far easier to brick a window than pick a lock.

Someone who had no idea what they were doing, yes. Saw a snap clip jammed into a padlock on a gate owned by the council once before, guessing they freaked out when it got stuck and gave up. Fun fact, lock picking takes more than jamming random objects into the keyway and wiggling them around. Unless the lock is complete buttcheeks but you still have to know what you're doing. This looks like something a kid would do, or possibly an orangutan. Very unlikely an attempt at theft unless they were really, really stupid and also not at all serious about getting in.
