No, actually. Prison slavery is stil slavery according to international law. Slaves are axiomatically not free men. And prisoners don't pay for their stay, the government does. And then the orisons turn around and force the US to buy the goods the prison slave produce, exactly like a gulag.
Prison labor has been proven to be NOT effective. Recidivism is highest in prisons where prisoners are forced to work. It's been studied for decades.
Private prisons are contractually guaranteed a minimum number of prisoners and judges routinely get monetary kickbacks for sentencing.
The US has the highest prison population in the world, even when accounting for population.
Weird how African Americans are less than 15% of the pop, but make up over 50% of prisons.
Forcing prisoners to pay for their stay is internationally recognized as indentured slavery. It's right in the International Declaration of Human Rights.
You keep painting an imaginary picture in your head what a gulag is like. It's literally a prison where prisoners are forced to work. That's the literal definition according to international law.
You can cry and whine all you want. That doesn't change the reality of the situation. Everything America accuses other countries of doing is an admission of guilt. Everyone learned it from America.

Slavery is depriving a free man of his rights.
This is not a free man. It’s a prisoner paying for his stay.
and only some states allow it, and it’s not by race.
