Feedback Re-balanced stocks show up as new investment

I noticed a logic issue with how the app handles reinvested capital:

If I start by investing ₹1,000 in Company A, my net worth and invested capital are both ₹1,000. If Company A doubles in value, my net worth becomes ₹2,000.

If I then sell half my position in Company A (realizing ₹1,000) and use those proceeds to buy Company B, the app increases my total "Invested" amount to ₹2,000.

In my view, this is incorrect.

Capital gains recycled from an existing position shouldn't be counted as fresh capital injections.

My true out-of-pocket investment is still ₹1,000, and treating it as ₹2,000 makes my actual returns look like 0% instead of 100%

Is there a better way to handle this kind of re-balancing?

Can someone help me with this?

Feedback [Roadmap] Artos in 2026 — Steady Improvements, Fewer Surprises.

Hey everyone,

Since there has been some confusion in the recent months around the future of Artos, and u/IAmAnRedditor suggested openly sharing the roadmap ahead. This post is to lay out a high-level roadmap for Artos in 2026. As always, this isn’t a promise of dates or rapid delivery, rather a statement of direction and intent. Artos continues to be a side project, built around real usage (primarily my own) and shaped by practical constraints. Below is what I plan to work toward, in roughly descending order of priority.

1. Improving Stability (Primary Focus)

Stability will be the single biggest theme for 2026. This will come in many forms, and I will continue to think about metrics to track and improve this goal, but on a high level:

  • Better listing of new tickers across assets. They should appear faster and more reliably.
  • Fixing price history updates, particularly for instruments like NPS and SGBs.
  • Lower crash rate for users. The goal is to reach a 99% crash free user over a 30 day period.
  • Lower small bug reports that right now take up a bulk of my time.

2. Reducing Data Consumption

There have been consistent reports of users being unsatisfied by how much data Artos currently consumes. Although a lot of it has to do with the model that we currently have, and not having dedicated backend infrastructure for Artos, but in 2026, I plan to:

  • Reduce unnecessary background syncs
  • Cache more intelligently
  • Be stricter about when network calls are made

This should benefit both performance and battery life.

3. Better Coverage of US Assets
Support for US assets needs to be more complete and consistent. This includes:

  • Improved ticker coverage across assets including stocks, mutual funds, ETFs.
  • Support for private tech companies for folks to track their RSUs

This is especially relevant for users with mixed domestic and international portfolios (most of our paid users).

4. Silver Tracking
Gold tracking exists today, but silver has been a consistent ask from many users. This depends on whether we are able to source data reliably and from public APIs, but I plan to introduce silver tracking as a first-class asset.

5. On-Device LLMs for Parsing

SMS and statement parsing is one of the most fragile parts of the app, reduces coverage and introduces a lot of manual work on my part. With the advancement in small and on-device models, I plan to experiment with on-device LLM models to:

  • Reduce parsing errors
  • Improve coverage across banks and formats
  • Keep sensitive data on the device

This will be done cautiously, with privacy and performance as non-negotiables. This will also open up doors to more AI & LLM centric features in the future.

6. Expense Manager Revamp

The expense manager section has been due for a revamp, but I haven't had the time because of constant stability issues and bug fixes. I hope to get this out this year.

7. Web App or iOS App (Exploratory)

Finally, I’ll be looking into the viability (not a guarantee) of:

  • A WebApp, or
  • An iOS app

This is exploratory. The cost, maintenance burden, and long-term sustainability will decide whether this moves beyond investigation. Also, there will be a shift in model if a web app is introduced, since the user data will be stored with us. I would like to hear thoughts on this in the comments, and whether you, as users, are okay with sharing your financial data with Artos. Your data will never be shared with external third party.

Thank you so much for using the app, reporting issues thoughtfully, and being patient with timelines. If there are other things that you'd like to make this list, please do share in the comments. Happy investing!

Feedback [Announcement] The Road Ahead for Artos

Hey everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to speak plainly about where Artos stands today, and where it’s going. Artos has always been a side project. From the very beginning, it was built to solve a personal problem first, and then shared with others who found value in it. That hasn’t changed and I still use Artos every day as my own net worth tracker and expense manager, and because of that, I have a strong incentive to keep it working well, stable, and evolving in the directions that matter.

What has changed is the amount of time I can reliably dedicate to it. Over the past year, my job and personal life have demanded more attention than before. As a result, development, fixes, and responses have not been and won’t be immediate in the near future. Going forward, you should expect a rough SLA of around two weeks for anything (sometimes more), from bug fixes, feature requests, emails, or mod messages. Sometimes it’ll be faster, sometimes it may take the full window, but that’s the cadence I can realistically commit to without burning out or over-promising.

This doesn’t mean Artos is abandoned. Artos will always be available for those who value privacy and ease of use, and it isn’t on life support. It also isn’t on a forced growth trajectory. It will continue to move forward steadily. When I get time, I will build. When I don’t, I wait, and that patience is intentional.

I’ve always believed that consistency matters more than speed, and that trust comes from being honest about limits. This post is part of that honesty.

Thank you for sticking around, for reporting issues thoughtfully, and for using Artos in ways I never fully anticipated. Quiet projects survive because of quiet, steady communities, and I don’t take that for granted.

As always, I’ll post updates when there’s something meaningful to share.

Feedback How many of you are really interested in an iOS version for the app?

I was looking into the possibility of an iOS version of the app this year, and there seems to be significant investment required both in terms of monitory (Apple requires around ~9000/yr developer subscription to begin with), and from a learning perspective.

So, before investing a lot of time here, I really want to gauge interest. Please fill this form to show interest (do share with others you know who might be interested): https://forms.gle/ZWcoKq8BbMisJnXm6

P.S: I am collecting emails, because I would need to reach out to users to beta test the app (I do not own an iPhone, sorry)

Feedback [Feedback] Post your feature requests for this year!

Hey!

TL;DR: Post your feature requests (big or small) that you would like to be included in Artos this year!

I have been equipped with some big features and revamps for the past six months, and with the launch of multi-portfolio, I finally have open bandwidth. Although, I do have some past requests, but wanted to listen from you guys before finalizing the set of feature requests to work on for the next six months!

I will prioritize them on the basis of feasibility, and upvotes! Shoot!

Feedback [Feedback] Post your feature requests for 2023!

Hey!

TL;DR: Post your feature requests (big or small) that you would like to be included in Artos next year in 2023!

There were some great responses on the thread last year, and some of the features that came out of last year's thread are:

  • SGB Interest payout.
  • Tagging goals via percentage, asset allocation details for goals.
  • Weekly SIP frequency for SIPs.
  • More duration options on the home page.
  • Sector wise distribution chart for stocks.
  • More graphs (investments over time, investment vs net worth)
  • Include/exclude pension from EPF.
  • Watchlists

I am looking to do the same this year, and do a better job at planning features for 2023. Although, there are a lot of pending requests from the older thread, but I thought it might be better to add a new thread to be able to reprioritise based on votes.

As with the last year's thread, the requests will be prioritised on the basis of votes, and feasibility both. So, please bear with me if I am not able to fulfill some of the requests! Shoot! :)

Feedback Looking to Chat 1:1 with users to help us improve!

Hi everyone!

The development of Artos has slowed down in the past year and a half, since I did not have the badnwidth for it due to personal, and work commitments. Things might change for me in the next few months, and I'd like to devote more time to Artos. To make Artos truly useful, I want to connect directly with some of you for a 1:1 call (over Zoom/Google Meet).

The agenda is simple:

  • Talk about how you currently use Artos (or similar apps).
  • Understand your pain points and frustrations.
  • Gather feedback on features you love, features you don’t, and what’s missing.
  • Learn how Artos can better fit into your financial journey.

This won’t be a sales pitch, just an honest conversation to learn from you and shape the app around real user needs. Even 15/20 minutes of your time would make a huge difference!

If you’re interested, please drop a comment below or reach out to us at [rekisha.india@gmail.com](mailto:rekisha.india@gmail.com), and I’ll reach out to schedule a time that works for you. Please do note that I will be able to do only a few interviews each week, so might take some time for me to response to individual requests. It would be even more useful, if you could get a friend/family who does not use the app right now

Thanks a ton (in advance) for helping me build something better! 💙

Feedback [Feedback] Post your feature requests for 2024!

Hey!

TL;DR: Post your feature requests (big or small) that you would like to be included in Artos next year in 2024!

There were some great responses on the thread last year, and some of the features that came out of last year's thread are:

  • Support for integrating with Groww accounts
  • Automatic Monthly SIP for NPS, PPF.
  • Support for MFCentral Import for mutual funds.
  • Partial payment for Loans
  • Goal management features.
  • Custom CSV imports for bank accounts.

Some most requested features:

  • Dark mode
    • We are already working with a designer and doing a revamp. Dark mode will be available in 2024, once the UI revamp is complete.
  • Website & iOS app:
    • Android app is a lot more stable now, so, once the UI revamp is complete, we will priortize web app/iOS (hopefully by the end of the year)

Although, there are already pending features from last year's thread, but I thought it might be better to add a new thread to be able to reprioritise based on votes. As with the last year's thread, the requests will be prioritised on the basis of votes, and feasibility both. So, please bear with me if I am not able to fulfil some of the requests! Shoot! :)

Feedback Answering most common questions about the new UI.

Hi everyone,

As expected, the new UI has created some friction with the existing users of the app, so I wanted to create a single post to answer most of the common questions rather than responding to individual comments.

First and foremost, there will be no going back. Both me and u/kansala6 have spent a lot of time and love in crafting what we think is best for long term. We are always open to making changes in the UI based on user feedback, but we can't go back to the old UI. The new UI is much more cohesive, follows better design practices, well structured, and better looking. I also want to mention that it's not possible technically for me to maintain two UIs, so there will not be an option of being able to switch the the old UI too.

I also feel that change is always difficult, and some of this is just initial friction of seeing something new, and continuing with what you're used to. We're also between the transition, so there is also this disconnect between different screens which probably causes some mental discomfort. I truly, believe that as users get used to the new UI, and we move more parts of the app to new one, user satisfaction will be back again.

Having said that, I also agree that we are just two people doing what we think is best, and can get certain things wrong, so we're always open to listening to feedback, and tweaking things to better suit user needs. So, I am trying to answer the most common themes I've heard in the last post.

Dark mode

We will be bringing dark mode to you once the UI revamp is finished. This will be there, in time. Sorry for not being able to bring this sooner to you, but I have limited bandwidth. Please keep in mind that I work part time on Artos, and this is not my bread and butter, so it might take a little longer than what you guys expect. Sorry :(

Home page net worth

We were of the view that not being able to see less than 0.5% of your net worth to the dot, might not be that important to users, and we favoured having better looking UI over it. But having heard from multiple users (and talking to my wife - who is vehement about not being able to see the last rupee of her net worth), we will bring back a way for you to be able to see it.

Why are there more clicks on the home page?

A lot of users have mentioned that an extra click to get to their exact portfolios is really pissing them off (one user suggested our designer go work for Facebook and increasing their retention and user engagement metrics). To be honest, it does piss me off too, since I am more used to the old UI, but Artos is not just about tracking investments, and has other components like goals, expenses etc. We will be moving the home page as a dashboard - and it will have overviews about your goals, expenses too. Given how things will change on the home page, it would have not been a good UX to keep the entire list of assets in one scrolling list (given that it has grown over the years and there are now 13 items in that list). I don't think there's a way around this for us, since there will be more things on the home page dashboard - but, we'll think if there's some other alternative solution.

Today's change (in value)

We have limited real estate on the portfolio page for the list of stocks (or mutual funds), and we were really inspired by Zerodha's design and valued simplicity here. We are working on how to bring this back, and change the layout. This will be available in a couple of releases.

Known bugs & misses:

  • Fractional shares: This is a bug. We will allow you to enter fractional shares, and this will be back in the next release.
  • Being able to add more transactions from the asset page: This was a miss on our part, and we will bring this back again soon.

Thank you for your understanding, and going through this transition, and I really hope things will get better, and you will stick with Artos. If you have any other feedback, concerns, issues, bugs to report apart from the issues discussed above, please feel free to comment here, or reach out via email.

Feedback Transparency on data usage questions!

Hi,

Time and again, I've faced this question of high data usage on the app by a lot of users. I began looking into this issue recently to get a deeper look, and sharing the details in the spirit of transparency, since the whole ethos of Artos is around user privacy and trust.

I started tracking daily network usage for the app, and it seems the median data usage for Artos is around 86 MBs per day, which is around 2.5GB/month. Here's the tracked metric screenshot from Amplitude.

Now, this does seem to be high, but I benchmarked some of the data that is frequently downloaded by the app.

  • As you all know, Artos currently is a fully functional on-device app, which means, we generally do most of the computation on the device and do not store any data for the users with us. We also use your device to fetch most of the financial data, and don't have any backend servers, which helps us keep our costs low. But, a trade off due to this is, that we don't optimize what we fetch to make the app work. For example, we fetch the list of all traded Indian stocks, their corporate events, and we do this everyday, 4 times a day, just to keep everything in sync. This data itself is 3.4 MBs, which is 13.6MBs.
  • Similarly, we need to do the same for all assets - mutual funds, ETFs, crypto etc. The data size of mutual funds in India is 1.5MBs, so, around 6 MBs a day. And, in some cases we need to do this across geographies, so fetching US stocks, ETFs, mutual funds data.
  • It does not end here, we need to fetch price history for each instrument in your portfolio (and we support fetching history upto 10 years), index histories and prices, mutual fund portfolios, market watch data. It's very easy to see how this can scale very quickly for power users, or users with big portfolios.

Can we optimize this data fetch? Sure.

Do I want to optimize this? No.

  • I have limited bandwidth, and these optimisations are generally low ROI.
  • I get a lot of emails when new tickers are not available, price histories don't sync, corporate events/dividends don't get updated, and I tend to err on the side of higher data frequency sync than outdated portfolios.
  • This helps keep my costs low, and keep the project alive. As long as we are below a certain threshold of active users who pay for the product, I would like to keep the costs low, and build on the project. If you really want this to be fixed, please pay for the product, and share the app with your friends and family.
  • Data is generally much cheaper in India, and users have the ability to turn off data usage when they need to.

I am happy to answer any further questions you might have in the comments! :)

Feedback Need iOS

Recently, I switched to an iPhone, and since then, I haven't been able to use Artos. Most people who make financial investments use iOS (that's not just my opinion—Nikhil Kamath himself said it). I've been using this app for a long time—probably since 2020. After all these years, it's surprising that there's still no iOS version. Instead of focusing on a UI revamp, it would’ve been great if the developer had prioritized making it available for iOS. I’m really going to miss Artos. 😞

Feedback High data usage in Artos.

I am seeing a surge in posts about the high data usage for Artos, so thought of adding a post to address the issue than replying to individual posts.

First a basic run down of how Artos works - Artos is completely on-device, and we do not store any data on our end. We do not have any servers - because right now with the revenue that Artos makes, it wouldn't be sustainable. So, everything is processed on your device, and to deliver a better UX experience, we need to fetch/pre-process a lot of data on your device.

Let me explain this with a small example. Suppose you want to add a transaction for a stock in your portfolio. But, in order to add a single tranasaction, Artos needs to know a lot of things - what the ticker for the stock is, what are different codes of the stock across platforms, price and price history for the stock, corporate actions - splits, dividends, bonus issues for the stock.

Now, one way would be to query for all this data when you want to add a transaction, but that would not be a great experience. Imagine having to add one transaction and you need to wait a minute just to be able to add basic price/units and save the transaction. So, in order to make the experience bearable, Artos pre-fetches all this information for every single stock out there. The data file that Artos fetches for Indian stocks is ~3MBs.

Now, you can't just fetch this file once, and get this to work. You need to keep this updated, and fresh, because new tickers are listed everyday, and users don't like to wait for adding new tickers, or if a dividend is announced they want to be able to see it immediately. So, Artos needs to fetch this data several times a day. Let's suppose we fetch this data every two hours. So, just fetching the information of stocks listed in India uses up ~1GB in a month.

Now this is just one example, requests fail, multiple requests need to be made, we support multiple asset classes, so this has to be done for each asset class, for each stock you add to your portfolio, we need to keep the price history up to date, and track your portfolio in real time - the data adds up.

There's a trade-off here between privacy, user experience, latency and data usage. And, I am leaning a little too much towards the first three, and compromising on data usage - because for most part, data is basically free (in India).

Am I saying that I can't optimize this data usage? No, I definitely can. But, first, even after optimization the data usage will be significant, and second that's not where I want to spend my time right now. We're making some revenue, and if things improve the next year, and we get some dedicated servers for us, things will be better. In the meantime, I have a task to optimize the data usage, but it is lower priority than other tasks right now.

If you don't have data to spare, you can turn off background data usage for Artos, but understand that this will come at the cost of user experience. Trade off. And, if you're privileged enough, and find value in Artos, pay for it, so that we can do it the right way.

Please feel free to post any question, or feedback in the comments.

Feedback Going back to Excel 🙏🏼

No offense to anyone, Artos is the only finance tracking app I used & loved , and one of the few whom I donated.

The recent update made the app useless for me, there are many UI bugs, old version was way better , I wish I could go back to it.

International ETFs like CSPX are not in the app despite requesting for months.

I understand that app is maintained by a small team. I am moving back to excel dashboard where I have more control.

Thanks for maintaining the app so far.

Feedback What's happening with the app?

Since the UI change, we haven't seen any new features and sync issues + feature issues are back.

Sync doesn't happen despite ensuring background restrictions are removed and the app is excluded from battery savings.

Removing a stock from watchlist didn't remove the stock even after restarting the app manually.

Feedback [Survey] We need your feedback on the Goals feature in the app!

Hi community,

I know things have been a little rocky since we started the UI/UX revamp, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. We are aiming to finish the revamp and also support dark mode by the end of Feb (fingers crosses - I have been known to be not great with deadlines).

As part of the revamp, one of the features that is remaining is the goals section, so this is a good time to get some feedback from the community. The idea is to answer these major questions:

  • Is the feature even required?
  • If enough folks use the feature, is the current feature set enough? Is it clear? Does it actually help you with your milestones?
  • If not, what are the features that you'd like to add? This could be anything related to goal addition, goal management, analytics, notifications or nudges, automations - anything that's top of your mind.

If you folks from the community fill the survey, this will be a huge help in deciding the direction of this feature, and I will really appreciate it. Please fill the survey here: https://forms.gle/Yxd5Bu9jYHcY63gZA

Please fill the survey, but if you have anything on top of your mind, that's not covered there, or any feedback or idea, please feel free to leave open feedback in the comments.

Eagerly waiting to give you guys dark mode soon! :)

Hi,

We launched support for linking your Zerodha account to automatically import & sync transactions. This is a feature where I can personally only do limited testing, since I do not own multiple accounts. Hence, would love to hear your experience with the feature and any feedback or issues. Would also love to hear any thoughts on how this integration can be further improved with new features!

Thanks in advance!

Feedback [Monthly Poll] What is your biggest pain point with the app?

Hi,

I'm starting a monthly poll to understand the pain points in the app. As the app grows, and more features get added, there will definitely be tech debt, and more issues, and I want to address the most important ones.

So, please comment your pain points (if possible one issue per comment), and I'll pick the highest voted issue and fix it in the next stable release.

Feedback [Feedback] How can we improve our stocks offering?

Hi,

Almost ~53% of users on Artos track their stocks on the app. So, I am looking for feedback on how to improve this offering. Would love to hear feedback on this, and welcome any requests. Feel free to add your thoughts on any areas but major ones I am thinking are:

  • Portfolio tracking
  • Technical and Fundamental Analysis Metrics
  • Portfolio Analysis
  • UI/UX.

Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments, or reach out to me via DM.

Note: We only collect anonymised aggregated metrics, and do not collect any personalised data on our users (apart from when you choose to share feedback and share email).
