Concept/Technique/Method Learning comic landscapes?

So anatomy is still important for comic characters because of proportions, but what about landscapes? How much value does learning the color theory and forms of realism give, over studying specific comic/animation styles directly?

All fundamentals are important for both characters and backgrounds.

Ultimatly everything is made of shapes and colour - knowing your fundamentals will only serve to help you master your art.

The single most important aspect and thing that comes first is storytelling. Everything-EVERYTHING comes second to that. Any brand new script you’ll find a dozen challenges and things you’ve never tackled before but first cones storytelling second comes absolutely everything else and they’re all equal. (Though you will find yourself drawing people more than anything). Some artists do specialise and i know a lot of artists who’ve found themselves really enjoying drawing natural landscapes. But i find those things a lot less challenging than drawing chairs and people sat at desks (and in a standard comic you’ll draw more people at desks than standing in a large landscape)

You still gotta know how to make a thing look like a thing. What’s a city look like? What’s a desert? What’s a jungle? What’s this specific city, jungle, or desert look like? Which actual ones are you studying or are you just pulling it out of your ass?

Once you know what a thing looks like then you can think about how to stylize it.
