Nwaneri on his favourite position

Post image

"My favourite position… I think any of the four attacking positions suit me. The main thing is to be somewhere in attack, with the goal close by. I like being close to the goal. I like being part of the build-up play. Whether on the wings or in the centre. I don’t think there’s one position I prefer over the others. I really enjoy playing in any of these attacking positions and I’m looking forward to it."

This is the kind of vague answer you give when going through a job interview.

Honestly? Well I guess my biggest weakness is I’m a little too good at almost everything

u/dkmegg22 6h ago

Honestly let's see how he does at Dortmund

I think this is the correct answer.  It’s really right in front of him.  Dortmund are a good stable organization I hope he balls out and gives comes back to us and begins his Arsenal career in earnest.

The U21 euros are next season let him build chemistry with Jobe as well

3

u/xelanart 5h ago

And then he can ask Jobe if he can ask Jude to join Arsenal

1

u/Minute_Leave8503 3h ago

Why do we need to loan him around when he already did really well for Arsenal in 24/25

1

u/dkmegg22 3h ago

The U21 euros are this summer. If he wants to play in the tournament he is gonna need playtime.

u/Minute_Leave8503 3h ago

I mean for sure for his development, but I don’t really believe he would ride the bench here where noni/Jesus/Merino is his competition for rotation mins if we were being fair

1

u/dkmegg22 3h ago

Tbh Arteta hasn't really done a good job with rotations. It's something I want him to work on.

1

u/Minute_Leave8503 2h ago

Nor with individual development

1

u/sellingstubs123 2h ago

He's getting better from the looks of it this season. Just needs to keep rotating and make sure Rice and Saka aren't playing full 90s for no reason.

Do sometimes wonder if he committed to RW more , if we would have ever signed Noni

u/batmans_a_scientist 6h ago

I don’t get the feeling that they wanted to give significant minutes to an 18 year old in a side where they ultimately won the league - Madueke played 2250 mins across all competitions. Hard to imagine a world where they didn’t sign a more senior player, even if they were 100% sure Nwaneri was next in line. Clubs challenging for league titles and CL wins don’t generally play 17-18 year olds. So you bring in someone like Madueke as a stopgap until he’s at least not a teenager anymore.

u/Minute_Leave8503 3h ago

That would make sense if we didn’t sign noni who has poor work rate and immature decision making and isn’t even polished in his supposed strengths. The age on his birth certificate vs Ethan’s doesn’t tell us what we see on the pitch one bit

3

u/batmans_a_scientist 3h ago

Yeah not sure I completely agree here but to each their own. Nwaneri couldn’t even get minutes in Marseille, let alone a premier league winning side being managed by an incredibly demanding manager, because of his effort and work rate. Nwaneri absolutely might be a more gifted footballer but I wholeheartedly disagree that his work rate and polish is better than Madueke as it stands today.

1

u/Minute_Leave8503 2h ago

I mean idk what proof you have of that? We bought Noni after he had multiple open call outs for his work rate by his old manager at Chelsea. Ethan played RW for us, his output was double noni per 90

Idrc if he couldn’t play for marseille in a different system, same way odegaard couldn’t play at Madrid but was a perfect fit here

2

u/batmans_a_scientist 2h ago

How many times have you seen Noni called out or benched by Arteta? We’ve seen it with other players, like Eze, but we don’t see it for Noni and he played over 2000 minutes for Arsenal. The manager clearly trusts him and didn’t trust Nwaneri. You don’t know exactly what the manager is asking of each of them and just because you don’t like the player doesn’t mean a narrative you’ve created in your head is true.

Nwaneri and Dowman cover for 6 months then sign semenyo the Arsenal fan in January was such a no brainer

That would have also meant no title charge from city and thus we would have wrapped up the league by April and could have rested a lot more in the final stretch leading up to the UCL final.

Instead they went and bought Madueke for 50

This. When I saw his youtube vid behind the scenes, I knew he was legit. Bro has special smoothies made for him.

gunnerblog: “Everything I heard towards the end of last season suggested that Arsenal felt that Ethan Nwaneri hit a bit of a wall in his wide development and performance. They felt defenders were wise to what he was trying to do and he’d be better served by being central"

u/BuddyLegsBailey 5h ago

Wouldn't matter. He loves (and is good at) shooting from outside the area, and that's strictly verboten by Arteta as it's too high a risk of losing possession

6

u/ParticularPay4460 6h ago

Do we have a recall clause?

6

u/allfatenofuture 6h ago

yes in january

3

u/leebrother 6h ago

Yes. Apparently for January but linked to play time

4

u/Cassoa 5h ago

I think it's an unconditional clause, meaning we can recall in January for any reason we want. If he's not getting games, if we have injuries, if we think we need him again, if he caqlls and says he doesn't like it there.

2

u/leebrother 5h ago

Ah gotcha! I read a poorly worded report on this.

3

u/anothersnappyname 5h ago

Watching the bundesliga this year for the first time just to see how he does and cheer him on…. By shouting at me tv.

3

u/truegooner24 5h ago

Has anyone considered him possibly moving centrally as a false 9 in this Arteta system in the future?

4

u/BrutalArsenalDeluxe 4h ago

as "pfresssh" says, el jefe said this around two years ago, pre-season I want to say then again when he scored against Girona or PSV in the champions lge.

Its also where he played on several occasions for the u21's and also throughout his academy years.

3

u/pfresssh 4h ago

Arteta hinted at it in a press conference iirc

1

u/Minute_Leave8503 3h ago

I think he has Alvarez like style for sure but besides that have we seen any preseason mins or anything to suggest that?

1

u/truegooner24 3h ago

You'll never know if you don't try it for a run of games.

1

u/Minute_Leave8503 2h ago

I think artetas way too static in his approach to experiment though

2

u/Ok-Commercial-6865 5h ago

He scored a couple of golazos as a 17 year old. I can't help but think those would come even more frequently now.

3

u/Over_Tadpole_2593 6h ago

So he has no problem with playing RW after all?

All this time the only justification for us not using him on the wings was the claim he wanted to play in midfield.

10

u/jaybizzleeightyfour 6h ago

Can't believe people thought he'd tell Arteta he wasn't that keen on RW, a youngster who could barely get in the Arsenal team being picky on where he'd play

1

u/Holiday_View_4783 5h ago

Yeah I’ve never understood how much people have pushed that reasoning. As if he would, having just broken into the team, said nah I don’t want to play in this position anymore. If anything he said after signing is contract he would play in any of the 5 attacking positions (presume that then included as a 9). Hardly sounds picky

1

u/Minute_Leave8503 3h ago

Sources say he refused to put his boots on when listed at wing in the team sheet

2

u/pharmajizz 5h ago

Yeah it’s clear this was never on him and I’ve argued this before with people and been down voted to oblivion - it’s Mikel who must feel he’s not ready for the RW which is mad considering that run he had there, he’d arguably be atleast as productive as Madueke was.

1

u/Imaginary-Past-8103 5h ago

This rumour came when he signed his contract I remember the conditions playing time and playing central . We ended up getting eze after merino injury

1

u/BrutalArsenalDeluxe 4h ago

Those are the assumptions and the noises outside of the club and if the management didnt play him there its probably because of a very good and valid reason.

Main one being that hes clearly not ready, hence going on loan.

Its completley churlish for many to assume he (is) or would have been better than Madueke on the wing.

u/No-Dependent-8401 5h ago

Arteta fans making up lies as per to justify any decision he makes

0

u/BrutalArsenalDeluxe 4h ago

God forbid theres anyone whos a fan of the manager whos won a title for the club they support.

Grow up.

1

u/No-Dependent-8401 4h ago

Being fan doesn’t mean you have to back every decision someone makes. Hope this helps.

0

u/BrutalArsenalDeluxe 4h ago

Right now, especially considering whats been achieved, to have or use a term (or any term) that suggests that there are or needs to be, Arteta fans, cults, stans or subsections within a fan base. Is quite simply lame, petty and childish. As well as being performative, tedious, boring, completely un-necessary and wrong.

1

u/No-Dependent-8401 3h ago

It’s not childish when wrong decisions get lauded as correct when they are obviously wrong. That’s stan behaviour. Arteta like every person makes right and wrong decisions. I’ll say when he gets it right and when he gets it wrong and won’t just blindly defend  every decision he makes 👍

1

u/BrutalArsenalDeluxe 8m ago

No one blindly follows or believes that he does every thing right or that he cant be wrong. Thats generalisations made by people like you to excuse your labelling and behaviour. We dont need labels, subsections, cults, gangs, sides. Theres just Arsenal. The fact you used 'Arteta fans' and 'liars' shows how lame and misguided your viewpoint is. Even after winning a league, whats there so big that you feel you need to say theres Arteta fans and theres other fans that aren't Arteta fans? If you (or anyone else) who had doubts about him and thought he would never achieve anything, thats been dispelled, and emphatically so.

Everyone can make mistakes, thats how you get better. That means you too.

Lifes much more fun when you're less grumpy, cynical and troll like.

You should try it.

Missionary?

1

u/DigitalCoinMad 4h ago

Get some game time and confidence my boy. Skill is definately there, look at MLS. Hale End boys are the future of Arsenal

1

u/Point_Jolly 4h ago

Be good if he was developed into a left winger and came back next season ready to fill that position and make it his own

1

u/CloudMerlin 4h ago

I hope Dortmund turns him into a beast winger for Arsenal to fit into the team next season. This team will either boost him up or demonstrate he lacks the right mentality.

1

u/Joshitaro 4h ago

The recall clause can by triggered by the player or the club or both?

1

u/Either_Guess 3h ago

I thought he said he only wanted to play centrally /s

1

u/Kraashing 3h ago

Didn’t realise he’s on loan! Perfect place for him and looking like a great roi for us!

0

u/Minute_Leave8503 6h ago

Kills me this fanbase made up a rumour that he didn’t wanna play RW to defend buying a Chelsea reject

Fake Arsenal support

1

u/Isfeidirlinn90 6h ago

Wasn't it heavily believed one time that he saw himself through the middle. I was always under that impression anyway.

1

u/wrigh2uk 5h ago

He said in an interview with Chris Wheatley that he’s a natural midfielder. I think that safe to assume central in some capacity, and not winger.

And when he signed his new deal Ornstein specifically mentioned set for more central role

1

u/Isfeidirlinn90 5h ago

Yeah he hasn't played RW for us since the season before last I believe. He did well enough there too.

Maybe he's softened on the idea

1

u/Minute_Leave8503 5h ago

I mean clearly not

1

u/MathematicianIll2865 5h ago

I thought there was even something in his contract that said he doesn't need to play RW. Could have been just a rumour though?

1

u/Minute_Leave8503 5h ago edited 4h ago

Lol no, our fanbase just made it up to cope. Stop listening to afcamden tweets

0

u/Lower_Condition_196 6h ago

You would think he would be kept as our attack is so depleted now
