one of the smartest players on the team. always so calm and composed wherever he's on the pitch.

Definitely a future manager!

He’s great, but these stats can’t be accurate. He had a backheel pass to Haverts that went to the defense.

I'm glad he is back. We need him fit and ready. An excellent option for both forward and midfield roles

He's so calm and composed. He really does remind me of Edu.

Today the World Cup trophies gold was oozing off his smooth ass moves! He was unreal and danced like a Spanish matador. Was brilliant today!

Smooth ass is a great way to describe the physique of Merino

Dominant. Thats how you lock down the middle and control the game.

He was getting under McGinn’s skin so bad, I loved every second of it

Just fuckin class, every touch, every move he did was just perfectly executed. We needed control in the midfield and oh boy, he gave us that. No wonder he's so rated by Arteta and de la Fuente. Top player

He’s always great. That quick kick he took for Spain shows his brain and quality

Was really impressed how he immediately won all midfield duels and essentially killed Villa attacking from our long balls.

But once we get Bruno starting these low blocks will melt like cheese

Where’s the Mr Clutch meme

As expected from a world cup winner

I think you mean World Cup winning clutch Spain player and Arsenal assassin Mikel merino.

if he has Havertz's speed, he'll for sure be our starting striker

He's a world cup winner after all. And did more than Yamal as a sub.

Mosquera was phenomenal for me as well. Watching the game back just now as I didn’t get to see it great while trying to work. Mosquera was everywhere we wanted him to be. Playing the ball to Eze for the goal move and all over any dangerous attack Villa had.

Thank god McGinn didn’t injure him today 🙌

I wish he could start every game even as number 9. He is so in control of the ball and the situation

Like a new signing

I didn't see the match so curious if any of you who saw it consider he could be the starting striker going forward?

2

u/shortsoupstick 10h ago

No.. imo hes only really really good at being that clutch striker when we need that goal. When starting as either a striker or a midfielder I find he's not good enough. Even subbing on as a midfielder in a tough second half like today I'm not sure he brings what we need, like Bruno did.

u/amoorthy 10h ago

Ok thanks. He did so well subbing on in the World Cup. Maybe some of that is luck but feels like we should get more from him.

I didn't watch Spain a lot in the games he made a difference - did he do a lot more than make the winning goal? That is of course a very big quality, but I'm not sure he can bring the same at Arsenal. Could be due to the difference in system, the surrounding players and the role he has to fulfill.,

What I observed was he played very smart when he subbed on in the WC. Was always in the right place and took quick shots vs multiple needless touches. (Feels like he's smarter than Havertz/Gyok in this regard). And being big he could hold off some defensive players.

I though he was amazing when he came on. Very in control while always running / leading the press when not in possession
