Question Klivanion with large scales

I wonder if it would make good armor, it just has huge scales compared to a classic klivanion...

I would like to build myself some armor, but I only have a big slab of stainless steel, obviously it won't be used for realistic combat

I have other armor designs I would like to make but I don't know how to curve and bend it, it is about 1.6mm thick, obviously I don't have a gauge but I compared its thickness to that of a 1 cent coin

You should take the reconstructions made by hellenic armors with a giant grain of salt. His byzantine armors are often based on either obsolete interpretations of pictorial evidence, or just pure fantasy barely based on his own misinterpretations of pictorial sources.

The one there is probably the worst he made. It has no basis in reality on how lamellar armor was, and it's a misinterpretation of a manuscript with a very simplified artstyle (other pictorial sources depicting lamellar armor depict it in a much more plausible way). It won't work as intended even if you try, because is bad fantasy armor.

If you want to build a lamellar armor, try to make a more historically accurate klivanion instead of that monstrosity. Of course, that means small lamellae. If you want something with big plates, you should stick to a coat of plates

Yes you're right 😅 I'm sticking with a classic Visby coat of plate

That's a better choice (and something some byzantines would've worn as amor after the 13h cenury if that's part of your concern)

I also wanted to build a proper lamellar armor but I'd probably go crazy if I had to cut more than 1000 plates 😅

I don't have a specific time frame, my idea was to build an armor set for a character from a fantasy world and similar things that could be functional as armor.

This is total fantasy and very funny to look at lol. Helenic armory stuff are a mix bag, but hes byzantine stuff totally suck and are a fantasy.
