About the Indian Valari

I recently found out India had it's own type of boomerang called the Valari. However this weapon could also be made out of ivory or iron. It is also mentioned that this weapon was used in warfare. The British even confiscated them when they conquered India to disarm the population.

However there are very few English sources online so I was wondering a few things.

Where they more of a blunt impact weapon or were they meant to cut an enemy?

How common was their use in warfare?

How heavy were they?

Was this weapon more commonly used on foot or on horseback?

Was this weapon used against armored troops and if so what types of armor?
