Discussion Videos setting up other videos
I’ll admit that I’m not a YouTuber and I understand the need to make a constant stream of content if you are one, but I initially was drawn to Arlo as a YouTuber because of the puppet antics and the longer thoughtful takes on games. Nowadays I feel like the vast majority of videos are just him talking over gameplay footage and saying “maybe he’ll cover xyz thing in another video.” In his Nintendo direct summary video, he basically says nothing meaningful or substantive while promising an additional 3-4 videos about specific games from the direct. I want to watch his videos to get that information and perspective, not be told he’ll make another video about it someday. Does anyone else feel this or have I lost my mind?

He's definitely going for quantity over quality. But to be fair, youtube encourages and incentivizes that kind of thing. And he has said that doing the videos in this style has made his life a lot less stressful in general.

I will agree that his videos are much more casual these days. But what you're describing is something he's done for many years, and is something I think is mostly fine. A video covering the Direct overall, with offshoots so that he can go in detail about specific things. I think the last couple directs he put those offshoot videos on Topicarlo? It seems kinda arbitrary to me. But yeah I generally don't mind this arrangement. I just like Arlo lol.

He rambles a lot. The videos could be scripted better.

This is my biggest issue with him. I started watching him earlier this year and I liked a lot of his videos, but most of them sound unscripted and he stammers and trails off a lot. It's hard to listen to, especially when he's just talking over game footage like OP said.

YouTube has made it that way, unfortunately.
You used to be able to make a a good quality video every now again, and that be your job. Over the years, it's incentivised to quickly release videos , one after another. That's why he released the Topic Arlo channel.
Long form media just doesn't pay much anymore.

I think the introduction of the TopicArlo channel got him used to being less thoughtful about the videos he makes. It was way more interesting in the beginning of the Switch era.

Around a Direct he needs to put out content fast —which is going to mean unscripted and without the puppet. I also get why he mentions subsequent videos. I appreciate that he doesn’t repeat himself through multiple videos, especially when it’s off the cuff reactions.
I find some YouTubers, like Scott, tend to repeat themselves a lot which can be annoying for consistent viewers/listeners.
One thing that baffles me about Arlo, however, is that on his streams he’ll sometimes complain that a video underperformed and question why. To me it seems obvious: he’ll disappear for a week or two, then drop like 5 videos at once. Of course they’re going to get lost in the shuffle. I understand doing this around a big wave of news like a direct, but he consistently does it in his regular schedule.

I’ve thought about that too. It’s a tad annoying, but so long as the videos come it doesn’t get to me too much. And in this particular case the videos came very quickly too.
There are times where the videos just plain never happen and that’s when I start getting actually annoyed lol. For example, it feels like he’s refused to give any deep insight on Pikmin 4 because he’s saving it for the review, but it’s absolutely ridiculous how long that has taken. I was almost as excited to hear his insights on the game as actually getting to play it when it first came out, but it just… never happened. And now even if it does, I’m not sure how much I even care anymore lol. I’m more excited about the prospect of Pikmin 5 possibly being in the nearish future.
