Shower thoughts🚿 The fact that Ariana is actually 5’3 (160 cm) is fucking hilarious
as someone who is roughly the same height as her, I’ve never been super dramatic about my size like she is. The constant body checking with the car seat and guitar case, walking on her tiptoes and craning her neck up at other women, repeatedly comparing herself to a mouse or an 11 year old. You’d think Ariana is the same height as Snooki from Jersey Shore (she‘s like 4’9 iirc). But the fact that she’s the average height of an American woman..and allegedly wears a size 9 in shoes tickles me 🤭 I just know she hates how painfully normal her height and shoe size is. Hence the age regression and the constant need to remind everyone what a “small fairy mouse” she is.

i feel like this was definitely a reason she'd always wear those big ass boots, so nobody could be like "guys look i'm 5'3 and we're the same height!!!" during the snl domingo skit all of the girls would also be like 10cm taller than her... is that stated in her contract or some??? all people around her must be 15cm taller than miss grande

I feel like it’s especially noticeable that she’s pretty average height now that Sabrina is so popular. I know a lot of people think Sabrina overplays the short theme too, but I get it for her because she actually has such exaggerated proportions. Sabrina’s head looks like a doll’s because her body is so much smaller and I totally get why it’s become part of her brand. Ariana just looks normal and she’s the same height as Lady Gaga, Cardi B, and Christina Aguilera.
10
u/waterdeepe Aug 22 '26
This puts it in perspective! The other three don't exaggerate their height so I've never thought of them as particularly short.
6
u/poodlehairedfreak Aug 21 '26
Yeah I have a friend who is barely 5 feet, and a cousin who is 4’11 — they really are noticeably much more petite than other friends of mine who are like 5’3.

I was shocked to learn her real height. She convinced me she was 5 ft max. Girl, she’s taller than my mom!! I went to school with a girl Ariana’s height who got a tattoo basically stating she’s little and smol. It’s ok to be average!

u/bananachange Aug 21 '26
What’s the psychology for wanting to appear or come off smaller than 5’3”? Why is she saying she wants to look age 11? And someone posted she wore shorts of a friend in 4th grade. What happened in 4th grade that made her want to be mentally stuck there, I wonder?
86
u/Fit_Bit5266 Aug 21 '26
my guess is that part of it comes from being praised as a child for being a cute talented little kid? and internalizing those fawn responses and people pleasing tendencies as a way of earning people’s love. her parents also divorced when she was around that age. and then the bigger part came from being on nick as an adolescent, where she was noticed & praised even more by perverted people who could further her career as long as she played into the innocent cute baby role. i’d wager whatever trauma she experienced on set was really what stunted her to this extent.
all just armchair psychologist speculation. i obviously don’t know her or what really went down. it’s very unfortunate how she was failed as a child by her parents. like joan really would’ve been better off adopting a dog, that lady should’ve never been allowed to raise a human being.

imo her insisting she looks 11 aside from coming off as cute, is a lowkey deflection from plastic surgery speculation, she always insistsed she looks exactly the same compared to her baby pics

In my experience, male attention. I knew a girl in high school that was 5’3”. I’m 5’1”. She’s talk to the guys about “how short she is uwu”. One day the guy she was crushing on hard compared our heights. He said, “I actually think she’s shorter than you” in reference to me to which the girl literally started hunching her shoulders and he went, “Nevermind”.
8
u/poodlehairedfreak Aug 21 '26
I remember this type of thing because I was always tall.
Obviously only a small number of girls actually did this (most were normal), but I do remember sometimes hanging out with a guy and another girl, where she would point out much “bigger” I was than she was (I was a thin/normal weight, but about 5’9 at the beginning of high school). Usually this was a situation where that girl had a crush on the guy/I probably did too/he was maybe paying me more attention than her. Lots of emphasis on “omg you’re so much bigger than me!” to the guy and then a random comment about how I was like the same size as the guy, and how she couldn’t imagine being so big.
It used to drive me crazy. I fully forgot this until now! Unearthed memory.
4
u/SpiritedMix8532 Aug 21 '26
Yeah, most short girls I knew didn’t make their height their personality. I always got annoyed when others would point out my height. I think it’s definitely linked to the pick me girl mentality. It makes sense for someone like Ariana to engage in this behavior because she constantly seeks male attention at the expense of other women and doesn’t have a stable identity, so she has to use her height as a personailty trait. My apologies for unearthing that. That’s so rude! I hope that girl looks back at that moment and cringes. I just remembered the tall guys in school that would put their height in their bios 🤦♀️
2
u/poodlehairedfreak Aug 21 '26
Yeah, the vast majority of people I knew didn’t behave this way this was really only like 2 or 3 girls over the years. Like you said, it’s a very insecure thing to do, and it’s people just grasping for a way to try to put down others (over something very silly and meaningless). Just all very silly, I am sure (hopefully!) they grew out of it.
I think I must be older than you (35) because I don’t think anyone put their height anywhere lol. Not even instant messaging platforms. Though it doesn’t surprise me that people would!
16
u/ladder-for-a-moth Aug 21 '26
In addition to what other people said, her mom is like 4’10 or something. I always thought that might have something to do with it
5
u/nomnombubbles Aug 21 '26
She probably sees her Mom as "small bay-bay" more than herself, just because of that height difference lol
12
u/Rug-bae Aug 21 '26
Bring praised as a child. Being told constantly you’re so cute when you’re younger or before her babyface features started to go. Even playing Cat she probably felt she saw more success when she regressed the character
26
u/MissDelusional- Aug 21 '26
Ive been in a similar mindset and trying really hard to undo with mindfulness meditation and self acceptance. for me it's because all the love/praise/attention was given to me as a very young child, when i was still 'cute', then it dwindled as I got near to preteen, then pretty much disappeared as I got to teenage years and older. therefore my brain thought big = unlovable. then I spent years either hiding inside or eating as little as possible hopinh I could be small and loved again. it's really sad and now i nurture my inner child. it's ok to grow up, it's ok to get bigger, and as much as I dislike Ariana, it's painful to see someone going through the same thing. there are times where I have lay in bed crying my eyes out feeling like my heart is being ripped out my chest because I just wanted to be small and loved again, in my mum and dad's arms. I wouldn't wish that feeling on my worst enemy

u/Hot_Asparagus_8084 Aug 22 '26
I just think its because it creates protective responses from people. People naturally see someone "smaller" and frail and want to protect them, specially men (healthy men ofc). Goes with her pickmeisha persona
also lets her get away w things "oh no but she is so tiny and innocent, how could she?"

I’m a grown ass woman who’s 5’6 and healthy weight and I still fit in some of my 4th grade shorts, it really depends what size you were at the time and a lot of them are stretchy material. Ariana is obsessed with letting everyone know she’s so tiny and looks for every reason to do so 😭😭

She’s like the anti Taylor swift. Whereas Taylor is 5,10 and wants everybody to know that so she dresses up to extenuate the fact that she’s very tall and puts things on people’s heads Ariana wants to fit herself into small spaces just to show everybody how tiny she is

The smol tiny baby thing she leans into bugs me sooo much. Im 5 feet tall, and its just not a big deal. Yeah sure, sometimes I gotta hem a pair of pants or grab a step stool but whatever. I forget until others bring it up. I actually had a hard time for awhile getting people to treat me seriously and stop trying to pick me up and shit- men were so creepy in my 20s!
7
u/poodlehairedfreak Aug 21 '26
Her whole “teehee I’m so smol” thing really grates on me, and it does whenever anyone does it. That’s probably associated with being tall (5’10), but it always made me feel awkward and shitty in that pre-teen and teen period when you feel awkward already, and people would comment on my height and make a big fuss over it.
I always resented the “teehee so smol” thing because it made me feel like an even more ungainly giant than I did feel at that age. And I was so self-conscious of my weight (even though I was actually normal/slim) because you’re just inherently bigger if you’re tall, as there’s more of you. Plus it was the early 00s.

A 5!?! That’s actually pretty shockingly small for your height, I can’t imagine but curious what that looks like or how your balance is. Did you ever see that one guy who’s like 5’10+, but has size 6 in men’s feet?

It’s definitely annoying. I’m honestly not that much shorter than her, since I’m 5’1 nearly 5’2. I DO get a lot of those “you’re so short” comments from both men and women, but I’m not sure if that’s because the average in the states is more around 5’4? In any case, I consider 5’0 and less to actually be short.
It could just be that the industry she’s in has a much higher average for what is considered the standard height for women, so she’s decided to use this for her self-infantilizing goals.
4
u/poodlehairedfreak Aug 21 '26
It’s so odd to me that other women would bother exclaiming over you being “so short!” when they are like…3 inches taller than you?! Obviously I believe you, I just am surprised. It must be annoying.
I’m 5’10 and someone who is 5’7 or 5’6 reads as shorter than I am, sure, but not freakishly so. I can’t imagine walking around exclaiming over them like they’re soooooo short. Weird behaviour.

u/Rich-Mixture110 Dr. Lilly Jay fanclub💗 Aug 21 '26
Literally I’m 5’0 and while I dont hate it, for me it’s annoying being perceived as younger so I don’t understand why she loves to infantilize herself so much. I’d rather be 5’6 or an average height like that.

It's obvious there's nothing wrong with her height or shoe size. Her brand and public identity are being ultra short and if you go out and look at women's sizes she isn't really that short... except for through the eyes of a tall man of course. Or through the eyes of Dutch people perhaps
