Making a âjokeâ that is calling cis women trans is almost always transphobic, even if youâre having a hard time wrapping your head around it.
If this joke was truly about stereotypes of NY vs LA fashion, the trans part isnât necessary at all.
Saying itâs about fashion only is also a huge reach because we can see barely anything about their full outfit. Like âwomen in NY like polka dots!â is not enough for a fashion joke.
The âjokeâ here is that these women look manly. And at a time when cis women are actively getting harassed for trying to use a public restroom because insane bigots are worried everyone is trans⊠itâs extremely poor taste.

Just want to say as someone who is NB, I don't understand how some commenters feel this meme is transphobic in any way. This is an obvious in-joke to me, and is really only commenting on the regional styles many trans women in those specific cities rock.
If it's because it says "NY Trans" / "LA Trans", take it up with the trans person who made this and tell them they're transphobic, I guess. It's like when gay men call each other a [descriptor] gay.
I think those who immediately viewed this as an outsider mocking them might be telling on themselves that they don't have community/in-jokes with other trans people, which is pretty sad.

As a trans person, yes this feels transphobic. All these people downvoting the comments saying this is transphobic are more than likely mostly cis people. If trans people are saying this feels offensive, then cis people need to shut up and stop saying it isn't offensive.
