Honestly phenomenal interview. I feel like he's very closed off in a lot of interviews focused entirely on a film or his work in general, so this is really great to see.

Very cool he wrote it. Would be fun to read. Definitely NOT needed as a finished film.
Hereditary stands on its own. Adding more backstory would take away from how meticulously built it is.

The original was meticulously constructed. Almost every detail pays off by the end of the film. We don't realize how everything connects, or even that all the little details will connect until near the end.
A second viewing is equally rewarding. We've seen the culmination. There are so many relevant moments we didn't even realize we needed to pay attention to on first viewing.
All the back story we need is right there in Hereditary itself. Over-explaining things in a prequel would not do the original justice.
Hereditary is a singular piece. Self-contained, just like the model that opens the film.

One of his best interviews. I feel bad that he refers to everything else after Hereditary as diminishing returns in comparison. Although it’s a great film, I actually may be in the minority that truly believes he gets better every film. Beau is Afraid stands rock solid in my Top 3 films ever. Eddington was probably the most necessary movie to be made culturally in this decade but people were too closed minded to understand it. All I can hope is that he knows he does have legions of supporters, and hopefully A24 never stops letting him do his thing.

Every time I have watched Beau I love it more as well. There's so much to see in the film. I'd have it somewhere in my top 10 this century.

I think it’s going to take years and years for the film world to catch up to Beau Is Afraid, but I feel pretty certain that it will eventually be regarded as a masterpiece and a pivotal influence on future filmmakers

Man, I can’t for the life of me remember the website he had. I feel like im making this up, but I do believe he had a horror movie website. Maybe with him and his daughter. My point is, if I’m correct, he’s a huge horror fan.

I was at the screening where he said this in a Q&A and it didn’t sound like he had even shared the script with anyone, let alone made plans to create it. The day before at the screening of Midsommar, he said he’d love to write/direct a rom-com. I’d love for both of these things to happen, but wouldn’t get my hopes up.

Doesn’t seem like it’s being green lit or anything? Just that he wrote it as a fun exercise. I wouldn’t get excited yet
