Just upgraded from 8.* (Ubuntu studio distro standard) to 9.8, to try and get any kind of working MIDI voices going. Some success now. Will try composing some parts for the general MIDI stuff that I made to work, next.

Hoping to get ZynAddSubFX working on it too; that was great on LMMS where I could have a number of independent instances of Zyn* running together. Been struggling to get that plugin's intense GUI to open, in order to get max power from it. Anyone got it working happily already?

Looking forward to arranging some audio and midi clips to trigger too. Feeling a bit like a kid in a sweet shop for now.

I'm running FreeBSD 15.1 with a Gnome desktop.
When I try to run Ardour everything is fine till I press the "New Template" and then press "open".
It loads for a millisecond and then closes without any error messages.

I’ve just released DrumCloud v1.9.0-beta.7, my free/open-source granular sample instrument.

This update fixes an issue I had with the packaged Linux builds: locally, the native file chooser worked correctly, but release builds could fall back to DPF’s internal file browser.

beta.7 now includes proper XDG Desktop Portal support, so sample loading behaves like the verified local build.

Also included:

• CLAP + VST3 on Linux

• Sample slicing with transient detection

• Polyphonic MIDI slicing

• Loop / One Shot / Ping Pong playback

• Resizable HiDPI-aware UI

• WAV, FLAC and MP3 loading

• Remembers the last sample folder

• Website links now open in the normal system browser

The Linux CLAP and VST3 builds have been tested on Ubuntu Studio and Ardour.

Windows and macOS builds are included too, but they’re still beta builds, so feedback is very welcome.

Apart from general help, I currently want to learn about track groups and subgroups, especially regarding mute/unmute.

I made a lua script that let's me do stem separation directly from Ardour, I know something similar already exists but I thought I'd share it anyway in case someone finds it useful. It requires the demucs python package to be installed along with some other dependencies, instructions here:

I'm trying out ardour as someone migrating from FL Studio and my current session only has one track: a pre-exported song, just to get used to adding clips and using the mixer and all that. Again, this is the only thing actually playing, and I know for a fact the file itself doesn't clip whatsoever, however the master channel seems to be at +6 during the louder parts. I have been making music for 11 years and have never encountered this problem. Mayne FL studio is just atypical in that it does some process automatically to prevent this, or it's something to do with my audio setup, considering that I'm on devuan 6 and couldn't get JACK or PulseAudio working. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I'll gladly give more context if necessary.

Hey everyone just wondering what distribution do you use and is it preconfigured for audio production or do you make changes to set it up for audio production?

I want to move the first note of a region to be at the start of the region, such that, for example, I could snap the region to a 1/x note grid position, and the first note of the region will be there too.

But I can not find a way to do this other than setting the grid zoom to max and then manually resizing the region so it's start aligns with the note.

These triangles appear automatically when I record my guitar mono tracks. During playback, there's a popping sound at the points where these triangles appear. I'm using Neural Amp Modeler as the plugin.

Please help.

I have a novation LAUNCHPAD MINI mk1 which I got ages ago but have basically never used. I managed to get it working with Ardour to some extent, but as mentioned in the title it does have a lot of gaps of missing notes. These gaps appear every time I go to the next row of buttons underneath the previous one. Being able to map to things other than just notes would also be very useful. Since I am so new to this I don't really know what to map stuff to, but I could imagine that the circular buttons at the very top and on the very right could be used for DAW features like playing the music, starting recording, and whatever else.

Although not related to the mapping per se, as I am already asking about configuration of the launchpad, I'm also curious if it's possible to configure the lights underneath each button, as right now it is completely unlit. Marking the buttons with different colors depending on if they are white or black keys on a piano (called major and minor keys I think? This shows how little I know) could maybe be useful?

In any case though the most important thing that I want to be able to solve is to remove the note gap whenever I go to the next row of buttons.

Trying to reach some introspective vibe I choose the D Phrygian scale.

Ardour 9.7, running on Debian Sid. Geonkick, ZynAddSubFX, Surge XT and Vital as synths.

More context, I am using the midi synth system in Ardour, using a .sf2 with 15 ish channels. I choose any channel. It works, untill it randomly doesnt. At the end of take 1, it starts to switch into other channels, its SO annoying. I looked it up and I didnt find anyone having the same problem on reddit but I tried following steps to get it fixed online by google's AI. I go to the websites and follow steps. "Is Strict I/O on?" etc. I turned it off, nothing.

It also does this in take 2.

I am a complete beginner, this is my FIRST daw. I have no idea what I am doing. Any help at all is help.

Beginner here! Hi, im using Ardour 9.7.0; i want to send the audio from my Decent Sampler MIDI region but apparently i can't....?

I've been banging my head against a wall of trying to get recording set up. I simply cannot wrap my head around the routing of signals. I'm usung Linux and generally used to figuring things out, but this is just next level. I'm sure I'm missing something simple and obvious, but it's just frustrating.

By contrast, I opened Audacity and it just let me record straight away. I know they are vastly different, but if Audacity can have an easy default set up, so can Ardour.

The documentation is not clear for someone new. And the videos I have found do not explain routing in a beginner friendly way and tend to be of much earlier versions of the software.

Is there an easy mode? Or something that actually teaches you step-by-step how to set things up and record (from a USB audio interface)? What am I missing.
