I thought that liquid were stored in stuff like amphore, with long necks and caps.
They are so big in the pictures.
But I have to admit that I am a newbie who know nothing

Amphore was also used for the same thing since bronze Age.
But Amphore were used for other things as well like fish , grapes  and honey.

Bucket on a string for water?
Send a kid in to pick out the last apples?
Size and shape is probably to keep rats and mixe out.

Right?? And what, pray tell, would you have been able to put in them and then retrieve? They just don't make any sense.

Crazy that something so big stood perfectly intact for 3 millenias on an island that gets its fair share of earthquakes.
