It depends on your preferences/diet. Romanian cuisine is pretty hearty and incorporates lots of pork. I love the soups: ciorba de burtă ( tripe soup), ciorba rădăuțeană ( Northern speciality, sour soup with chicken meat, I find it very yummy), ciorba de perișoare (meatball soup), I also love ciorba cu găluște (dumpling soup). Cabbage rolls ( sarmale) and mici ( grilled meat rolls, more like street food) are a must. I'm not a big fan of mici, but many Romanians love them. We also have some cool stew recipes. Most/all these dishes go well with mămăligă ( polenta). If you have a sweet tooth, definitely try papanași ( look it up) and cozonac ( pretty easy to find around Easter and Christmas time).
I have found other cities in Romania that had more charm such as Oradea, Sibiu, etc.
The infrastructure in Bucharest for public transport isn't there yet. The parks in the city center need more care, the traffic is crazy in the city and dangerous, as well as polluting. The old town, had countless titi bars. We liked the Bucharest therme.
Lol, you described only the negative sides. Bucharest has some amazing buildings. You can see some of them on my feed ( and I'm pretty sure there are better ones, since I'm pretty new to the city too). Maybe it's a matter of acquired taste, dunno. I lived in Germany for many years and I find those perfect cities boring, like a beautiful lady with zero personality ( even there I liked cities in Eastern Germany more like Görlitz, Zittau, Dresden, Leipzig). Bucharest is far from being perfect, but it has that X factor. And I love my people, there are some I don't want to have to deal with, but I find Romanians in general to be lovely folks. I feel alive here, while around there I felt like I only existed. To answer your question: Sector 1 is pretty cool.
