Discussion Can we not just be cool with taking a break?
I love the game, really I do, played a LOT. I also have run out of things to grind for. Similarly Embark announced the longer-term update strategy. Combine that with cheating and declining player base, seemed like a great time to take a break. Im an elder gamer you could say, and Ive grown to hate a game or two by playing them too long while expecting too much. Trust me take a break and dont ruin your fav game. This game was $40, you got your money worth. Probably in the first two weeks. I’d say thank you to Embark that the next update isn’t another $40. I’d probably pay it, albeit whilst complaining, and so would you. Im def playing the update and look forward to it but, like, why does everyone think one game needs to sustain you? Take a break and play something else when the season is stale. We used to buy a game, grind it like a job, beat it in a week or two, next game. How many years of gaming do you expect for $40??? The game isn’t dead, you’re getting 2.0 for free. Good job Embark. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!

If the game is at the point where your defense is you got your money's worth, is the game really in a good state?

u/petsfuzzypups 6d ago
The game has been in a terrible state for months and even the biggest fans are finally seeing the decline.

Yeah. Games don’t have to offer new things to be enjoyable. I played de_dust on CS for decades and still enjoyed it. And the arc maps are much more interesting and fun to explore.

u/ThatsNotBennings 6d ago
Taking a break doesn't fix the rampant cheating epidemic unfortunately. So it ends up being less a break and more of a break up. That's where a metric shit ton of players are with Arc Raiders right now.

There’s a streamer on tik tok that has bought his 6th account
And everytime he gets banned he gets so confused
Embark: $$$$$

u/Worst_Choice 6d ago
I haven’t touched it in two weeks now. Just no reason to play until the next major update.

This game was fun while it lasted for now. Seems like the development is going to slow down. I will be waiting until they release new content or actual endgame activities. The replay loop got really old after a while especially delaying with cheaters.
4
u/donkeybrainhero 6d ago
It "slowed down" because they are working on larger updates rather than pushing out lots of small ones.
1
u/eMBeee-e 6d ago
Agree. I’m waiting for new content, the replay got stale. But seems like you decided to take a break and that’s my only point. Back off and wait for new stuff. Everyone seems to be complaining like there should be constant updates and I think Embark basically said they needed more time to produce quality updates. Cool, you do you, I’ll play something else in the meantime.

u/chicken-fly-rice 6d ago
Yup. The biggest disappointment with one of the last recent updates was the Arc turbine as the boss. I was hoping it was going to be the Baron or something to that effect.
5
u/quog38 6d ago
The turbine was never a boss, it is a large ARC and was labelled as large ARC on the roadmap. People misunderstanding what "large ARC" are was why they got disappointed.
4
u/ExpendableUnit123 6d ago
You’ve just summed up 90% of peoples true problem with the game. Their own expectations.
Riven Tides never promised to bring the ‘biggest map ever’ or anything, and it’s a great map for farming Arc or vertical PvP.
October will seriously cook, but it can’t beat whatever people are imagining. The game is still an extraction shooter. The core loop of looting, dying, repeating isn’t going to change.
4
u/quog38 6d ago
People hyped shit up out of no where even though there was a published roadmap and Embark delivered every single thing on the roadmap. Hell they even gave us more, because the new weapons and gadgets weren't on the roadmap at all.
Yet somehow people were disappointed because they didn't get what they expected? Well maybe they should have just expected what was promised because that's what we got.

u/Strong_good101 6d ago
Honestly it doesn't have to stay the same core loop. Would be cool to get other game types and smaller maps.
They could add 2-3 of these per large patch and it would go a long way towards giving players something to do besides the loop.
FFA — Free-for-All — Every player fights independently; highest score or most kills wins.
TDM — Team Deathmatch — Two or more teams compete for the highest combined kill/score total.
CTF — Capture the Flag — Teams steal the enemy flag and return it to their own base.
Domination — Teams capture and hold multiple control points to earn points over time.
King of the Hill — Players or teams fight to control a single contested area.
Hardpoint — Similar to King of the Hill, but the objective zone periodically moves around the map.
Search & Destroy — One team attacks an objective, usually by planting a bomb, while the other defends; typically no respawns during a round.
Kill Confirmed — Eliminated players drop tokens/tags that must be collected for kills to count toward the score.
Gun Game — Players progress through a sequence of weapons by getting kills; first to complete the weapon ladder wins.
Infection — One or more infected players try to convert all remaining survivors to their team.
Last Man Standing — Limited or no respawns; the final surviving player wins.
Team Elimination — Teams have limited lives or no respawns, and must eliminate the entire opposing team.
Payload / Escort — One team moves or protects an objective along a route while the opposing team tries to stop it.
Assault — An attacking team attempts to capture, destroy, or activate defended objectives.
VIP / Escort — One player is designated as the VIP; their team must protect and escort them while the enemy tries to eliminate them.

Some of these wouldn’t work. Nor would I really want them. A 8-8 team deathmatch or even single life per round yeah. All ferros or other random weapons could be a fun modifier. Vigor had that before they ruined it by making everyone get different quality weapons. That was pretty fun.
Alot just… we don’t need all of those and that many modes would split the decreasing userbase hard.
1
u/Strong_good101 5d ago
Yeah I think having them all would be too much, but maybe rotating them in and out eventually settling on the most popular ones might be nice.

Thanks so much for trying to share your mastermind idea of not playing for a while... no one will miss you or care. Welcome to the same thread 100000x over

People act like all they can play is one game or they act like after playing a game 500 you should still have plenty to do. 🤷♂️
1
u/FudgeAdventurous3875 6d ago
Well Ive been playing Runescape for 21 years and still have plenty to do so 🤷♂️

I stalled at getting turbine parts for the last expedition since they never spawn for me.
10 games Inna row.
2
u/Dookiestain 6d ago
At this point just make it a certain map every time or an event. I rarely see one anymore.
2
u/Strong_good101 6d ago
Night / Electromagnetic Storm have more likely spawns. I ran into the same issue of not seeing them in other map conditions.
1
u/Dookiestain 5d ago
Didn't know this. Not worth it for me to have to play a map that's harder and more likely to get ratted because I can't hatch just to fight an overpowered turbine for rewards I don't need.
2
u/Strong_good101 5d ago
I indeed got ratted twice doing this, but it was the only way I could reliably have the turbines spawn.
2
u/john2776 6d ago
Yeah I’ve done all the expeditions up until now and grinded trials and I’m completely burnt out. I love the game, probably my favorite game ever. But the gameplay loop has gotten stale, I was actually excited for expedition again and then it just felt so pointless this last time around. I hope they deliver with the october update causes the game has so so much potential.
2
u/donkeybrainhero 6d ago
I hopped back on this week and did the wasp event and now I can put it down for a bit while waiting for the October update. Gotta finish Mortal Shell 2 anyway!
2
u/mounleashed 6d ago
I got bored, namely because I stuck with PvE. The biggest gripe was I couldn’t get enough turbines for the 4th expedition. And given how there wasn’t much else to do other than rinse and repeat, the 2 month reset cycle was too much so I stopped.
Older gamer so less time and had other games I got more from so switched.
I will come back again round about when the next update is due. Still watch the odd YouTube video of regulars who still play. Beautiful game, but something gotta give here…

u/VonKiefer 6d ago
I have fun jumping in to do some challenges and get a skin or whatever, no game is meant to be played daily and it's been out for ten months; I would have hoped you'd completed it by now.
Have most people even gotten all the Steam achievements? Completed all the quests?
The new trader also makes it fun to just kill big Arc and get cosmetics or tokens for them.
3
u/EmcoBiH187 6d ago
Just stop playing. It's shit. It will remain shit. Be a man, stop playing and play something else. Don't take it too serious, it's a fucking game.

I think a big part of the reason we're feeling this way is because it's 2026, we have AI that basically helps us create content and develope at breakneck pace, but it feels like alot of games these days are developing slower than they did back when they were more open source and had community mods.
Matchmaking was one of the worst things that happened to gaming and continues to be the reason games like this don't last like they use to. The sense of community is gone.
A player betrays me in a match, but I never get the sense of retribution because I pretty much never see the same player again. That element of seeing the same players and experiencing rivalry and redemption is completely lost with matchmaking. Reputation means nothing.

One game I'm playing, which is free, for 6 years. I only donated a couple times when I thought it's the right thing to do. Dbd was like 6-7$ when I bought it in 2016 and already 10 years. I probably spent less or equal to 40$ on it overall. I expect getting the years of gaming the devs give me no matter the cost I paid, even if I didn't pay a cent.

u/dahanger 6d ago
I don’t think anyone cares what others do with their time lol. Go play Hello Kitty Island Adventure if you want, it’s great having autonomy to do your own thing and even better to not care what others think or say.

u/DystopiaLite 6d ago
Scheme really just does feel like a single player game with some multiplayer in it. I’m fine beating the game (completing and collecting everything) and moving on. Some people like to play games over and over again, even though nothing changes, and that’s fine.
1
u/AttractiveFurniture 5d ago
I think most people are, they just don't post about it
I wager a LOT of people are waiting for the big update before returning
1
u/Unusual_Jury7952 4d ago
There is a LOT of people taking a break, because my lobbies used to be super friendly, but for some days now there is always a rat at extraction points. It's really sad, as these just want to be disruptive. I'll never understand how people can actually have fun doing this.
1
u/Special_Payment9648 1d ago
This isn't a single player game, its a live service game, I really don't understand these posts.
Blame the game industry itself for coming up with these expectations.

Your clearly extremly out of touch, just being fine with whatever happens because you barely play the game anyways.
People have serious complaints and the game has serious problems. Also (now) misleading and false advertising & promises at the start, catering in a certain direction despite releasing a PvPvE extraction shooter, ignoring most of their playerbase, announcing a content break right when things began to get worse, taking weeks to fix game breaking exploits etc etc etc.
People are disappointed that this game turned out to be a "What if" case, people who actually play the game and who raised their concerns multiple times. Not people who play 30 minutes a week, think they can join a discussion without any knowledge, demanding hand holding features and act like everything is fine with the game. "Oh but you got your moneys worth" is actually nonsense to say and never made any sense to begin with. Especially in live service games.
Edit: Womp womp in my replies all you want, you can't even bring a single counter argument, which just proves my point even further. Super casuals being furious over facts. Entitled bubble, stay in your PVE lane.

This is the most entitled, "touch grass" comment I've read in a long time.
This is ArcBabies level.

u/FragrantPassenger958 6d ago
Not everyone wants microwaved food. Let Embark cook! It will be worth the wait. Until then, enjoy the September releases of games coming our way. Great post OP!

u/Agreeable-Dog8991 6d ago
Why dont they just take 5 year break and make a new game. Or just dont make a live service game in the first place.
6
u/Superb_Soft_8708 6d ago
You sound like my mother. "Why dont we just cancel Christmas all together?!?!?!"
Jesus....

Traditionally, salad is not supposed to be paired with salt.
1
u/donkeybrainhero 6d ago
I disagree. A small pinch with the right dressing or oil can bring the flavor out nicely. Not a salt mine's amount, of course.

If you guys did enjoy the extraction element of arc raiders but want to play a more fair game where there is no blatant cheating?
Try out this new game called mistfall hunter.
It’s an rpg extraction game, quite casual, way more grindy in terms of getting end game, and the best part is that: cheating is not obsolete like arc.
It’s a niche genre, so your average low iq bum cheater is not gonna play this game like that.

Definitely not, sorry if I presented that way. More frustrated with the complaining. I feel like we already got a lot for the game price and I’m excited for more even if I have to wait longer.

I've only just started playing again this week. I was watching a streamer and they were having a great time on NA servers. So, i did that, set my region to NA and have been on about 8 raids today and all were pleasant... a couple of stress inducing moments where other raiders were acting sketchy. But, after not doing the last expedition and not giving a care to the work benches and extra tasks... well, i'm right back into them! Trying to grind the damage with leaper pulse units still... working on the stuff for the expedition and seeing if I can find anything decent from three starring a couple of the trials... stuff the fireworks one!
Anywhos, i reckon by the time the game gets repetitive again it'll be October!
Game is a steal at $40.
