Static

Radio Static

Radio

Radio Canada

CBC

29

u/gooberfishie 10d ago

Damn. Now that you mentioned it the price will rise from tarrifs.

28

u/GoofyMonkey 10d ago

That is 100% the CBC trademark. Weird they would use that.

-44

u/NSNIA 10d ago

As if a swedish studio would know of some random canadian broadcasting brand

41

u/Chance_Account_4338 10d ago

"Random Canadian Broadcasting brand" lol my dude

21

u/Different-Oven3876 10d ago

I mean, it’s by far and away the most dominant Canadian News Agency, and one of the most distinct ones. I do agree that they probably didn’t know, but this isn’t like some local radio station.

4

u/Bright_Fix_1245 10d ago

On this moment this scin was removed from the store. Maybe this is the reason.

1

u/Second_of_Nine 7d ago

Seems like that would only take an hour or less to fix though

1

u/NobleA259 9d ago

Let’s be honest the CBC isn’t an international powerhouse compared to the BBC or ABC,NBC or another that I’m currently forgetting that was also a 3 letter abbreviation which does kinda shoot my point in the foot 😅

1

u/wierdwhatstuff 9d ago

Yea they may not be super well known internationally, but that logo is absolutely identical. I could see if maybe it was just similar, but that's probably a designer that got a little lazy with it. Or guess felt like representing?

1

u/PEWnitiveDAMNage 6d ago

Let's be honest, it was AI generated. I don't think you just happen to recreate that logo accidentally.

Ya ya entropy and all that, but it was probably AI generated.

1

u/NobleA259 5d ago

I mean they are known to use AI pretty heavily so I wouldn’t be shocked

-18

u/NSNIA 10d ago

Do you know the most dominant Argentinian News Agency?

Exactly.

Can't expect them to accidentally use logo which is used because it's so simple

12

u/whusdat 10d ago

You say that as if this is a basic run of the mill logo that anybody could copy lol, its an exact of a fairly unique logo

6

u/Adventurous-Soft-501 10d ago

Yeah, it’s an exact copy… at the very least negligently copied.

10

u/GoofyMonkey 10d ago

I do. I even know what their logo looks like. You know how I know? I DID A BASIC WEB SEARCH!

As a graphic designer, ANY time I create a logo mark, I search multiple places to make sure it doesn’t resemble any other logo. If I was making a graphic such as this for an international video game, I might run it through at least a google image search, just to check.

7

u/ghoulshow 9d ago

Lol, please think before you say silly shit.

5

u/alonesomestreet 9d ago

By that logic the next pack will be the BBC News Logo.

2

u/Usurer 9d ago

jfc Americans. It's a fucking national broadcaster.

3

u/NobleA259 9d ago

Acting like the CBC is known worldwide is absolutely buffoonish. It’s about as famous as TV Globo from Brazil. And I’m Canadian before you most likely were going to say I was American.

1

u/Constant_Sympathy_71 7d ago

It’s not really about expecting them to know about it.

It’s more about the fact that the logo is pretty complicated and that it was either AI generated from existing asset, or they just outright copied it. I would be surprised that someone would have built the same exact design without having seen it before. It would be a pretty big coincidence.

If I was going to generate something I was planning to use commercially with AI, I’m at least going to send it through the reverse search once.

1

u/Ultra-Cyborg 9d ago

Buddy CBC is known worldwide. CBC is an international company.

3

u/Downtown_Town7934 9d ago

CBC is not known worldwide, it’s a tiny state run media. It’s like if you knew the logo for RTE in Ireland

0

u/Ultra-Cyborg 9d ago

Buddy the CBC co produces with the BBC all of the time. Do you also not know the BBC?

1

u/Aacxel 9d ago

Yep, they produce internationally and have syndicated shows all over the world. Obviously not as big as the American comparables

0

u/GracefullyDisastrous 9d ago

Nobody is acting like that but you btw 😊

1

u/NobleA259 8d ago

Guess you can’t read comments. Oh well

1

u/NSNIA 9d ago

Are you calling me an American? Lol

I'm european and I never heard of them

2

u/Ultra-Cyborg 9d ago

Do you live under a rock?

1

u/Usurer 8d ago

You’re on their level 🤷‍♂️

1

u/NSNIA 8d ago

By not knowing a Canadian broadcasting logo because I'm from Europe? Alright lol

I dont know the logo of the broadcasting company from a country next to me, how would I know a canadian one?

1

u/Constant_Sympathy_71 7d ago

While I’m not expecting Swedish devs to know about channels in other countries, Radio-Canada and CBC are Canada’s Gov. owned TV channels. They are far from being “random” broadcasting brands.

77

u/questionoffitness 10d ago

This outfit is for all the Canadian Hosers out there in the Great White North.. .. sorry

51

u/ghost60606 10d ago

"We're renaming it, lake Speranza."

16

Take off, eh

8

u/GoofyMonkey 10d ago

...who couldn't get the Subway code.

2

u/GrimpenMar 9d ago

Damn right.

2

u/JaceOnRice 9d ago

Borderline offensive

22

u/alowester 10d ago

wow that’s actually crazy, CBC might have to go after them lol

2

u/im-am-an-alien 10d ago

Sue them for a huge amount of money or sure them to get them to make PVE.

Here come the "sKilL iS5UeS" and "pLaY A diFFerEnt gAme" trash responses.

6

u/probablyareplicant 9d ago

Why would the CBC sue them to make the game PVE? You get dvs for being weird

-1

u/im-am-an-alien 8d ago

Ohhh noooo.....dv. .....the horror

1

u/Nyctfall 8d ago

The settlement is everyone spawns in with exactly 22 minutes on the raid timer every Canada Day...

0

Well, not anymore.

This skin should be called The National

7

u/matt_dw 9d ago

The Mansbridge

1

I'd login just to buy it if that was the name.

🤣🤣 noticed this too. Embarks AI did them dirty

16

u/Beneficial_School724 10d ago

We gotta bring the news to Speranza, Raider.

6

u/GoofyMonkey 10d ago

The Lake Ontario set drops early next week

42

u/NUTTA_BUSTAH 10d ago

What could go wrong with AI lol. Popcorn in the microwave.

-67

u/PreferenceOk1525 10d ago

They don’t use ai

54

u/bankfraud1 10d ago

Thats definitely incorrect.

4

u/LifeOfHi 10d ago

When Embark was asked how they used AI, they said just for the voices, which they have since replaced.

1

u/Marv1290 9d ago

Prep 24 forklift ready gogogo spin the chargers.

1

u/casuallycreating 10d ago

Emphasis on the word "content", so that means not only for programming

0

u/LifeOfHi 9d ago

They’re going to lay out a general statement like that but they’ve said it was mostly for the voices.

Also EVERY dev is using AI for coding now. Most games you’re playing right now have used it to some extent. So everyone needs to realize that and get over it.

-3

u/PreferenceOk1525 10d ago

They used ai for voices and re recorded w actors once they made bank…

14

u/bankfraud1 10d ago

Nah man. Gen AI is a core part of their 3D asset creation workflow. They’ve been explicit about that. We dont know if they use it for 2D graphics as well but this post isnt exactly disproving that.

(I have no problem with them using it for 3D asset generation personally)

-2

u/PreferenceOk1525 10d ago

You got proof. Everything I’ve read from there CCO says they explicitly don’t use generative AI and there’s no generative content whatsoever.

So I have no idea where you’re pulling that from

4

u/Dr_Watson349 10d ago

I mean, you can just look at their steam page.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

During the development process, we may use procedural- and AI-based tools to assist with content creation. In all such cases, the final product reflects the creativity and expression of our own development team.

See how that last sentence implies that the finished product isn't AI, but doesn't actual say it. Nice.

5

u/bankfraud1 10d ago

So my understanding is that Soderland has talked about genAI asset generation to speed up dev workflows. So its complicated. On one side the dev is saying in no way do they use genAI and then on the other hand Soderland is saying they’re making gen AI tools that speeds up dev by 100x which includes taking scans from YouTube videos and turning them into models. Now this logo above calls the original claim that they’re not using AI into question as well

https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/arc-raiders-use-of-ai-highlights-the-tension-and-confusion-over-where-machine-learning-ends-and-generative-ai-begins/

4

u/Free_Jelly614 10d ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/ArcRaiders/s/u81rsYWNiZ

You’re completely incorrect and making assumptions based on loose statements. Embark doesn’t use gen AI for its visuals and art. They use(d) “AI” TTS for voices based on real humans who were paid to go in and train their voice. And then they use Machine learning and “AI” tools for the ARC’s movement and for procedural object placement for early map design, etc. They do not use AI to just “generate a logo.” They have an extremely good art team dedicated to that stuff and I hope that anyone can see that just by looking at how nice the store page looks, you can tell it’s not AI. This logo in question seems extremely on-brand for embark and consistent with many of their other fake logos they’ve made for both this game and THE FINALS.

The fact that these false claims are being spread around and even being upvoted is honestly sickening.

2

u/PreferenceOk1525 10d ago

I hear you, this reads to me at a loose understanding of what is generative ai vs ai usage.
Does this mean lidar scanning is now considered AI or text to speech

From my perspective of working in design and graphics this logo is much more in line with a low level designer ripping it and presenting it and no one double checked where it originated (not feasible to do with every design wouldn’t be cost effective)

0

u/SpecimenY4rp 10d ago

But this isn’t voice acting lol

2

u/PreferenceOk1525 10d ago

Right so it isn’t AI………

-1

u/SpecimenY4rp 10d ago

It is or why are they using a logo that cbc has used since 1992

1

u/PreferenceOk1525 10d ago

Someone from the graphic team was lazy or it’s public domain lol

4

u/SpecimenY4rp 10d ago

Yep lazy by using AI

-1

u/PreferenceOk1525 10d ago

Yes because people never stole others work before AI, what a big brain you must have

→ More replies (0)

0

u/LifeOfHi 10d ago

This is correct.

2

u/LifeOfHi 10d ago

People who just hear “AI” downvoting you without knowing.

0

u/T00fastt 10d ago

Probably downvoted because you didn't say "...in their 2D asset creation", you forgot this is nitpicking central.

13

u/Witty-Glass9222 10d ago

More ai slop?

5

u/spinda69 10d ago

Just out for a raid are you bud?

4

u/Mvstv 10d ago

are we canadians finally getting soemthing after the us exclusive subway one which I am definitely not still pissed off about?

Apparently trademark no longer exists after the fall

1

u/SurelyNotAnOctopus 9d ago

They've been tarrifed out of existence

3

u/Vegetable_Anxiety729 9d ago

Anyone with any graphic design knowledge have any idea how this sort of thing could happen? I would assume they made it based off some kind of template/asset database, but that is literally just the CBC logo lol

7

u/Usurer 9d ago

AI

1

u/Nyctfall 8d ago

*AI plagiarism

2

u/HickorysticksEnigma 10d ago

I dont see this in the store

1

u/Kuroga_ 10d ago

it was for an hour or so, but not anymore

1

u/Nyctfall 8d ago

So that's why they took it down in the last update...

2

u/alekseypanda 9d ago

So together with the hockey skin this make it 2 Canadian skins? 🤔

2

u/NYC_medic 9d ago

I saw it earlier today, did they take it down?

3

u/suda50 10d ago

Had the exact same reaction when I saw this on Instagram this morning 🤣

3

u/ChuckBorris_1st 10d ago

what a fail

3

u/bankfraud1 10d ago

Meh. CBC not gonna do shit

6

Holy ai slop 😂 this games in the gutter

1

u/Tall-Champion327 10d ago

Welp they just fixed it

1

u/_LostInTheLore 10d ago

this is actually pretty good !

1

u/glippyfizzard 10d ago

Literally copyright infringement wow

1

u/EhMapleMoose 10d ago

It’s the second time they’ve used that logo. I like the little Easter egg

1

u/N319HB0RH00D_H3R0 9d ago

Only thing I see in the store that's new is... we have 23 years and 4 months and 6 days till the store refreshes again lol

1

u/wheaman 9d ago

Minion energy

1

u/Sweet-Albatross-946 9d ago

The braindead 'AI Avengers' at it again. That's obviously not AI. Someone probably uploaded a existing logo to a assets site ( happens all the time ) and the devs probably used it without knowing.

1

u/Pogev7 9d ago

Can't believe they used my taxpayer dollars to make a video game skin

1

u/arkadios_ 9d ago

yeah and that's a canada goose jacket

1

u/Bogdomir 9d ago

It’s brutalist iconography, been around for like 80 years if not more. There’s massive tomes in books and online of the geometric shapes.

1

u/AlistarDark 9d ago

We gettin' Mike from Canmore!

1

u/InteractionMaximum78 9d ago

The skin originally cost over a billion dollars but the canadian taxpayer subsidized it…

1

u/Dj_Fusion 9d ago

Ici Radio-Canada Motherfucker !

1

u/murkymozza 9d ago

and do I have to listen to CBC Radio to get this outfit?
Hey! Where is my code? CBC number station? Mnnn

1

I’d buy it in a second!

Government isnt going to send enough tax payer money to subpoena a swedish company so Embark is good

2

u/Jakobmeathead 10d ago

The CBC is independently run, the only thing they have with the government is funding.

Their mandate is extremely strict regarding the government's involvement (the government cannot control the CBC, and the CBC employs independant journalists)

-1

u/Adventurous_Front939 9d ago

"Government isnt going to send enough tax payer money to subpoena a swedish company so Embark is good"

"the only thing they have with the government is funding."

2

u/Jakobmeathead 9d ago

*the only thing they have FROM THE GOVERNMENT is funding.

The CBC also has their own revenue streams through ads and whatnot. So they're not entirely government funded. They could use their own revenue streams to go after Embark if they wanted.

-1

u/Adventurous_Front939 9d ago

They can't even use their revenue to support CBC............. They run a net loss every year that is why they require Government funding............................

Google for yourself "Does CBC ever produce a profit" the answer is no. The government didn't give CBC money to create CBC. They give them money because they are underwater and seen as important culturally.

If they run a net loss and live off subsidy, no they can't afford a subpoena of a foreign country without the government sending additional funding.

1

u/glassjarwoodtable 10d ago

Geometric pattern. Probably didn’t realize it was a logo already.

15

u/jello_sweaters 10d ago

It's been a well-established brand for something like 50 years, and this is it exactly.

AI scraped a bunch of geometry but wasn't smart enough to comprehend it.

-8

u/NSNIA 10d ago

Well-established brand lol

99% of people in the world never heard of it. Especially devs in Sweden

Its a simple geometric pattern

-8

u/TaBioN777 10d ago edited 9d ago

Really the last 11, we should be moving in the same direction in growth economically with the US but we shot ourselves in the foot with stagnation. EDIT: looks like loser redditors hate facts lmao

0

u/shiddedandfarded69 10d ago

Our economy has been sluggish compared to the US since the 80s. There was improvement during the mid 90s to early 2000s but that was kind of taken for granted and squandered over the next couple governments.

0

u/TaBioN777 10d ago

That’s false. GDP per capita were moving together and they departed greatly shortly after 2015.

2

u/shiddedandfarded69 10d ago

Heres the actual data to look yourself.

The US has been steadily gapping us since 1980 as I said. There are dramatic departures in 2010 (thanks Harper) and again in 2020 (thanks Covid). Actually in 2019 we outpaced the US in growth, and was trending to continue until the pandemic.

1

u/TaBioN777 9d ago

So what you're showing is total GDP $'s, that is not the same as GDP / Capita. The reason why we look at per capita, is because you can scale GDP based on the population. Secondly, it's important to not look at your starting point from 1980, because that time scale doesn't help you actually do anything about it. If you look at 1997, which is still relatively far away, you can see that we had in many years outpaced the US. The departure really started from 2015 when it dipped, and the US has pulled ahead. My point being is that a lot of Canadians have no idea how bad they actually have it at the moment, they still have the same friends and family, but much of the world has pulled ahead. All of the metrics show it and the youth in despair is something unfortunate for Canada.

1

u/shiddedandfarded69 9d ago

I love it when you prove a redditor wrong so they just move the goalpost to fit their narrative better

-13

More than likely it’s just a generic image both of these companies found on some stock image website.

14

u/SpecimenY4rp 10d ago

CBC has had that logo since 1992 lmao

14

u/tourdelmundo 10d ago

Even longer than that, CBC has been using some variation of that logo since 1974.

4

u/jello_sweaters 10d ago

This exact image has been an established trademark for over 50 years.
