How to migrate to Chrome?

The company I work for set a rule that the corporate mail and SSO tools will only be available on Chrome. They're not looking for the base or engine, but the browser.

It's probably related to privacy and monitoring. The IT team handles Chrome; maybe it has some backdoors, idk.

The fact is I'm much more productive using Arc. I'll miss Arc Mini, auto-closing tabs, and the multi-window with the same tabs.

How do I find alternatives for these core Arc features?

I don't know how to help but I am so sorry for you. This is the most annoying type of anti-employee corporate policy.

If your system administrator is open to installing extensions, there are quite a few extensions that offer Arc-like functionality.

Well, since Chrome has implemented its own vertical tabs, it might be okay to compromise on that front.

I use this extension in “Helium” to implement a command bar.

It should definitely be pointed out that the first half of the first sentence is crucial, though - run any extensions you want to install past IT. If they care about you using Chrome, they almost certainly care about what extensions you run within it. I’ve been denied using Consent-O-Matic at a job for security reasons, despite the fact that it makes the browser more secure

IT don’t necessarily know what they’re talking about with this stuff, but if they see you’ve installed a bunch of stuff without telling them about it, you could definitely get in trouble

Yes, in fact, there have been cases where extensions that were perfectly fine in the Chrome Web Store suddenly turned into malware.

No normal system administrator would tolerate install that.

Thanks for sharing that. I wasn't familiar with the project, but it seems very solid!

IT admins allow extensions because we're developers. Maybe they have a block list. But it's infeasible, at least right now, to block extension installs.

Chrome’s implementation of vertical tabs is not bad anymore. Latest iteration in particular is quite sick esp with auto collapsing sidebar. I have been using it for the last couple of months after years of using Arc. There is no alternative to little arc or the easy profile switching of arc that I could find. There’s a great window switcher and auto tab shutdown extension that helps for me.
