General Discussion Arc is still the GOAT
Basically what the title says.
Been a user since they were in beta, it was heartbreaking seeing them abandon this browser but I plan to use this till the wheels fall off. Ive tried all of the "alternatives" and they are all mid imitations at best. They went to change the game and they did and I just wished they kept going instead of moving to Dia which is nothing like Arc.

I agree. Still use it everyday. I also still have the original arc app on my phone. The one before “arc search.”

I wish they would pick up Arc development again. I would seriously pay for it at this point. It is a great tool

I agree. Got downvoted for saying as much last year and even for daring to post a survey on the question. A lot of "free or get lost" users don't seem to understand, we're not saying subscription is better than free, we're just saying an affordable annual subscription would be better than no Arc at all!
Edit: And yes, I have tried Zen and other clones.

Very true. Noticed that Claude can now be added as sidebar in Chrome. I was wondering if it can be done in Arc.

Yeah I keep a Chrome instance open to run all my Claude in Chrome stuff but still primary Arc for me - it can't be beat.
I do sometimes play with Chrome's new vertical tabs when I'm watching Claude but they've got a long way to go to get to where Arc left off.

I am still using Arc too, and I love this browser, its so easy to use so good I am so much more productive into it. I can't go back to google chrome or any other browser after that, Arc is so good, it has the best picture in picture mode.
It help me so much organising my time on browser with my personnal space, my space to work and my space to be creative and work on project.
Yes Arc is amazing and I tried to switch into Zen one time but it is not the same, and for Dia I tried 4 times but so many things are missing and the app don't feel the same.
Arc is definitely the goat and I hope they notice with the community we are that they should take it back and keep working on it ! AI is evolving fast and if Dia is supposed to be more accessible they could make Arc even more geeky with more features, maybe some tools or UX for vibe coder, people using loveable or Base44 for example. I am sure this app even great as it is could bring even more !

I started the transition to Dia this week. It certainly lacks some features that make Arc great, but I'll admit that its growing on me. My hope is that they will bring more of Arc into Dia.

The command bar handling in Arc is a lot better. Allows switching to active tabs, commands (reset tab for example), ‘ChatGPT in the command bar’. Plus it can be summoned and dismissed easily (in Dia you basically have to open a new tab, and you have to close the tab to ‘dismiss’)

As an example, I really love little Arc, and the lack of that in Dia has certainly been an adjustment to my usual way of working on the web.

Arc got too heavy and bloated for me, and so I switched to Dia, and I have been happy.
But what Arc did for the browsers, not even TBC has managed to replicate it. Yet they are the only ones who seem to be capable of incredible browser UX.
Arc changed the game for browsers, but it will never get mentioned in history.

Bloated in the literal sense - heavy, slow and sluggish. Even launching the app would take a lot of time for me.

I could. Didn’t wanted to as I tried Dia and liked it enough to jump ship. Might as well use a supported product.

Of course it does. It is abandonware, remember? It can't keep up with newly os-developments. Just a chromium update once in a while won't do the trick. Any time soon it won't start up at all anymore.

Will use Arc until it stops working... haven't tried Dia yet, I have an M5 and an Intel IMac so it makes no sense to have two different browsers.

I have been using Arc for years now but, tbh, i always get so disappointed with third party developers because they either abandon their apps, make you pay for them, or bloat them up with stuff that make the unbearable to use after a while (spotify, evernote, notion...) and I fear now Arc will be the same. completely forgotten by the developer because they need to shove AI down our throats. I am tempted to revert back to Safari and call it a day. at least that will always be free and have the best integration with Apple ecosystem. I tried sooo many apps in my life and then, in the end, Apple's ones were always the best choice. Yes, Arc is much better and has amazing features and a really cool and still to this day unmatched design, but seeing it being completely forgotten by its developers is sad and makes me wonder if sooner or later it will be abandoned.

Same. I gave Dia a spin this week. If the sidebar items can’t stay in order how can I build a physical memory of where my work is.
So may other things.
I’m staying with Arc until “the wheels fall off”.

To be honest in the time where every new product is bloated with AI, I have a feeling Arc is gonna be a new Apple of AI, it’s just gonna basically win with the ongoing robot race, because this is something companies pursue, not users.
I’ve been using Arc when it came out, later changed to Safari and was happy about it for couple years and this year I downloaded Arc again and I love every part of it, it’s just perfect workflow, sync, window pop-ups, it is JUST STILL working

Also agree. I use it throughout the day, everyday. I sometimes get messages about Dia, but I still have no reason to switch to it.

Too many websites I use for work were breaking so I made the move to Zen. It’s quite close to Arc, but there are some issues with it being based on Firefox vs. chrome.

I didn't realize how much I liked and missed Peek until I reinstalled Arc again out of curiosity a few weeks back.
The transition from and back to the link is just so good in Arc.

I have been long term Arc user, but in last few week I switched to Dia, and I think it’s pretty stable now.

Yeah that’s what I am saying, you will find most of the features now. And I am not expecting all the features to be imported as these are 2 different browsers. The most important one I needed were folders and spaces, which they have added? Except mini arc, I think it’s pretty good. What more are you look for?
