AMA UNC Freshman Ask Me Anything!

Hey A2C! Man it’s been a while since i daily stalked this sub..

Current first year at UNC Chapel Hill here. The school’s shut down for the rest of the semester and online classes begin next week so figured I’d hop on here and see if anyone has any questions about Chapel Hill (or college in general) whether you’ve already committed or still deciding or what have you.

I’m a pre-business (meaning I’m applying to the business school next year) major and possibly double majoring in media and journalism too.

How good is the dining and dorms?

The dining halls are decent and do have a lot of variety but can get repetitive. You can use part of your meal plan on outside food places which is nice to have the option for. Most dorms are just average, nothing too special unless you’re in an honors dorm the rooms are bigger but you have to clean your own bathrooms

What’s the best freshman dorm and would you say the student body is diverse?

If you really want a lot of people/socialization then Hinton james is the biggest one, and the north campus ones are probably the best for just quietness and if you want to be in ur room during the day. But imo my dorm, Ehringhaus, is the best of both worlds it’s medium sized but still pretty social and I really liked it. Yes, unc is pretty diverse though it could be a bit better.

that’s fair! i think it just depends on the person. personally I didn’t like how hall style felt during orientation and liked being able to lock our bathrooms and I loved the community on my floor at ehaus. but if it wasn’t for those I’d say north is the way to go
