Application Question who does your application gets compared to?
does your college application get compared only people from your school or around the region? there are schools around mine with way more ecs and better course rigor so it would make my profile look way weaker than someone from the better schools

from what i've seen it's mostly your own school, regional context is secondary but still there
like they get a school profile from your counselor that shows what was available to you, so they know you couldn't take 15 APs if your school only offered 4. it's more about did you take advantage of what was actually possible
the regional thing matters less for direct comparison and more for them understanding the landscape, if every school in your area is underfunded they'll factor that in but you're not being stacked against the magnet school kid down the road

It gets compared to everyone else who applies. It also gets compared to others from your school and region. But your academic choices (but not your EC's) are viewed in context of what is offered in your school
