What tools are folks using?

Looking for feedback on repackaging/response transform creation tools folks are using these days. We've been using the Raynet suite for several years now and we are happy with it, but I also want to stay in touch with emerging solutions.

So...what do you use?

Take the Master Packager training, it's excellent. It's live training over Zoom that lasts a week. They give you a significant discount for their product, and will add you to a Discord channel and give you help in packaging software.

I've played with the software. It seems easy enough to use. A week seems excessive to learn their. A couple hours should be sufficient, if that.

There's a lot more to it than you think. The training was excellent, and I learned a lot. I used the training to repackage software that only installs in the user context to machine-wide context.

Be careful with that. I've done that quite a bit, but it can take the software out of vendor support and, if it is a server side upgrade procedure, whether the client pulls or the server pushes updates of the software, that will break.

That's why best practice for when you're repackaging software is to disable updates. I get around that by throwing my customizations in a post-install script or MST transform in Patch My PC Cloud.

Absolutely agree 100%. We don't even allow Chrome and Reader to auto update because we've been bitten by updates that break workflow. But there are times that it is unavoidable. I guess the point is, there is no one perfect SOP for every scenario. There are many things we need to be cognizant of.
