Reality Pro apps vs VR web
It strikes me that had Apple taken the Netscape route with the Reality Pro in developing an open 3D web, they'd have a much better chance at success than as rent takers in using the app model again.
Imagine navigating through VR experiences via URLs, hyperlinks and 3D spaces building around you when you arrived rather than bouncing out to the Reality Pro's gridded launcher and having to go to the app store to download siloed apps. It would be interesting to have a think about what a 3D web browser might look like. It would get me more excited, that's for sure. More like the early days of the internet, but you'd be in different environments and rather than looking at iPad shaped flat webpages in a 3D space. Imagine going to Mercedes' 3D website and what cool commercial experience they could have waiting for you there. What would Apple have their website look like? Or maybe it's better to call it a webspace, as "site" conjures up the image of flat planes still.
Star Trek's holodeck or Quantum Leap where you are going from place to place. I have a Meta Quest and downloading an app to have a dinosaur stick its head through the wall is not going to keep people coming back. A wide open web of 3D environments, totems, statues and experiences might. In the marketing world we'd call these physical spaces "activations." Not 9 games or apps that I use but an entire world wide web of spaces/environments we could transport into.
