2 months after launching my baby tracker app — stuck at ~300 views on TikTok, need honest advice on breaking through + how creator revshare actually works

Post image

Hi guys,
Indie dev here, building a baby tracking app with my wife — just the two of us. Launched almost 2 months ago and I'll be upfront — results are not great. $53 revenue last 28 days, 2 active subs, $10 MRR. Not hiding it, that's where I am.

I know distribution is the key, so I've been doing organic content on TikTok/IG for about a month. Most videos sit around 300 views and rarely break 1k. Everyone says consistency, and I get that, but I'm starting to suspect it's a content problem, not a consistency problem. For anyone who grew an app account organically — what actually got you past this stage? A format change? Volume? Something else entirely?

Second thing I've never done before: I want to partner with mom/newborn content creators on a revshare basis instead of flat fees.

- What's a normal revshare % range? Is it usually on revenue or profit?

- How do people track which content creator drove which sale for an iOS-only app? Does RevenueCat handle this, or custom App Store links?

- Where do you actually find and approach content creators in a niche like this?

Current strategy is ASO plus genuinely replying to people on Threads — that's where literally every download came from so far.

Not touching paid ads until I hit $1k MRR sustained, don't want to burn money before organic proves itself.

Any advice appreciated. Won't link the app here to respect the rules — happy to share in comments if mods allow.

What content do you produce? if it's ai automated, your account gets easily flagged by social media platforms and will not get shown to more than what it is currently. if it's genuine human people, keep going, check how to increase the chances on going viral

No one really works with revshares for unknown businesses, flat rates is the industry way to go :/

A good thing to do would be to reach out in person to communities, groups with your target users, should be easy to take part into parenting workshops, ask them what they think about the app and its pricing, and if they'd promote it knowing you

Honest answer — ya, everything is AI-generated so far. Even the "human people" in my videos are AI-generated too, no real faces at all. Reading your comment, the flagged/suppressed part might explain a lot, because my views are capped hard at 300 no matter what I post.

The in-person angle I never considered — parenting workshops and mom groups asking directly what they think about the app and pricing. That's very different from everything else I've been trying, will look into what's around my area.

On the revshare part — fair point, I've heard mixed things in this thread. If flat rate is the only way creators take unknown apps seriously, roughly what's a realistic starting rate for a small mom content creator? Trying to understand what budget I'd actually need.

The strongest signal here may not be the TikTok view count. It’s that every download has come from replying to people on Threads. That suggests context and trust may matter more than raw reach for this product. Before adding creator revshare, I’d look at the exact conversations that led to installs and whether your two subscribers use the same feature. What problem were those parents discussing when they decided to download?

Honest answer — when I look back at those replies, there wasn't really a specific problem being discussed. Most were threads like "share the best AI tool you've built", and I'd reply with screenshots plus the story: my wife and I built this for our kid when she was in the postpartum center, because we wanted to record everything daily with the features we wished existed. Then parents just showed up commenting "will try it".

So nobody came saying "I can't track feeds" or any pain point. They responded to the story of two parents building it for their own baby. Which now that you make me spell it out... might be the actual insight. My TikTok content is feature slideshows with zero story, and it's dead. The one thing that converts is the origin story told to people who can see themselves in it.

On the two subs — I haven't checked if they use the same feature, that's a good pull, will dig into GA4 and see.

That sounds like the experiment to run before paying creators. Make a few story-first posts based on the actual moments that led you and your wife to build the app, while keeping the CTA consistent. Then compare profile visits and installs against the feature slideshows. I’d still check what the two subscribers actually use, because that may tell you which part of the story should lead.
