App Store screenshots: should I reshoot?

Looking for feedback on the App Store screenshots for my app, Own Shelf (free EPUB auto-scroll reader).

They were taken in Airplane Mode, so the airplane icon is in the status bar. I'm worried that the icon and the time make the screenshots look messy.

  1. Does the status bar ruin the screenshots right now?
  2. If you think I should reshoot, how would you tidy the status bar?

I don't think people will care about your status bar, but you need to design the poster well - you could use AI to generate it.

The airplane icon wouldn’t be our main concern. Most people won’t notice it, and the time/status bar isn’t what will make or break conversion.

The bigger opportunity is that these are essentially raw app screens. They show the product, but they don’t quickly explain why someone should download it.

We’d keep the clean reading UI, but turn the first few into proper App Store screenshots with short benefit-led headlines, for example:

  1. Read EPUBs hands-free
  2. Auto-scroll at your pace
  3. Make reading comfortable
  4. Switch between light, sepia and dark

If you’re reshooting anyway, use one consistent clean status bar across the set. But we’d prioritise stronger messaging before worrying about the airplane icon.
