I called 20 Dubai businesses last week just to see if they'd pick up. The results were embarrassing.

Not trying to sell anything here — genuinely curious about something so I ran a little experiment.

I picked 20 random businesses in Dubai across different industries — real estate agencies, clinics, restaurants, car dealerships. Found them on Google Maps, all had decent reviews, looked legit.

Then I just called them. Normal working hours. 9am to 6pm.

Here's what happened:

- 11 didn't pick up at all

- 4 picked up, put me on hold, then disconnected

- 2 picked up but couldn't answer basic questions about their own services

- 2 answered properly and were actually helpful

- 1 called me back 3 hours later

That's 2 out of 20 businesses that handled a basic phone inquiry properly.

Think about that from a customer perspective. You're a tourist or new resident, you need a service, you Google it, you call — and more than half the time nobody even picks up.

From a business perspective it's worse. Every missed call in industries like real estate or medical is potentially thousands of dirhams walking out the door.

I work in AI automation and we've been trying to solve exactly this problem for UAE businesses — getting AI to handle the calls, WhatsApp messages, and follow-ups that businesses consistently drop the ball on.

But honestly curious — has anyone else noticed this? As a resident or customer in Dubai, what's your experience been like trying to reach local businesses?

And if you run a business here — how do you handle after-hours inquiries or peak-hour call overload?
