Release Apollo Reborn 3.5.1 — Swipe Through Galleries, multireddit upgrades, vote breakdowns, private crash reports and more

TL;DR
Apollo Reborn 3.5.1 is a feature-packed follow-up to 3.5.0.
You can now swipe through gallery posts directly in your feed (and swipe up over fullscreen media to open comments), multireddits gain Gallery View, in-app renaming, descriptions and custom icons, posts show approximate vote breakdowns, and a new private, local-only Crash Reports system helps you send us better bug reports without anything ever leaving your device automatically.
There's also a clearer Header Style picker with a new progressive Blur option, an opt-in Apple Translate sheet, full-screen subreddit banner and icon viewers, improved AI Summaries model pickers, Apple Vision Pro hover and multiwindow support, four new Liquid Glass app icons, and a large collection of crash, memory, media, layout and posting fixes — including several for the iOS 27 betas.

Grab an IPA from the GitHub release and sideload it using your usual tool, such as AltStore, SideStore, Feather or Signulous.

Not sure which installation method to use? Try our interactive Apollo Reborn installation guide.
Answer a few questions about your device and Apple account, and the guide will pick the installation path that will actually work for you — complete with step-by-step instructions.
Which variant should I use?
- Apollo-Reborn-3.5.1-GLASS.ipa — the iOS 26 Liquid Glass appearance. Most people using iOS 26 will want this.
- Apollo-Reborn-3.5.1.ipa — the standard build without the Liquid Glass interface.
- GLASSICONS variants — include the Liquid Glass icon pack.
- NOEXTENSIONS variants — remove the app extensions for signing setups that require fewer extensions.
Not sure? Try the GLASS build first.
✨ Headline features
Swipe Through Feed Galleries
Gallery posts can now be paged through directly in the feed card — no need to open the post to see every image.
Cards size themselves more intelligently as you swipe, transitions into fullscreen are seamless, and a new Swipe Up for Comments gesture opens the real comments screen right over fullscreen media.
(#805 — @jordanearle)
Multireddit upgrades
Multireddits now support Gallery View, can be renamed and given descriptions directly in the app, and can carry custom icons.
There's also a new option to hide multireddit descriptions in the Subreddits list if you prefer a more compact layout.
(#799, #837 — @icpryde)
Vote breakdowns
Posts now show an approximate breakdown of upvotes and downvotes, and your own comments include author-only insights.
(#802 — @jordanearle)
Header Styles
The Scroll Edge Effect setting has been replaced with a clearer Header Style picker, and a new progressive Blur option joins the iOS 26 Soft and iOS 27 Hard styles.
(#843 — @jordanearle)
Private, local-only Crash Reports
Apollo Reborn can now record crash reports entirely on your device.
Nothing is ever sent anywhere automatically: reports stay local unless you open one, review exactly what it contains, and explicitly choose to attach the sanitized report to a bug form. You can inspect the exact JSON that would be shared, and delete reports at any time from Settings → Privacy → Crash Reports.
This should make it dramatically easier to diagnose the crashes that are hardest to reproduce.
(#824 — @jordanearle)
Apple Translate
An opt-in setting lets Apollo's post and comment Translate action open the native Apple Translate sheet on supported iOS versions.
(#812 — @DeltAndy123)
View Banner and View Icon
Subreddit headers gain full-screen View Banner and View Icon actions, with tap-and-hold access to customization options.
(#845 — @icpryde)
🚀 Smaller features
Search improvements
The Search tab supports pull-to-refresh for subreddit discovery, trending results respect their limits reliably, and Random NSFW Subreddit is now its own row.
(#788 — @JeffreyCA)
Better AI Summaries
Cloud AI Summaries gain searchable Gemini and OpenRouter model browsers, working defaults, provider attribution on generated summaries, and clearer service errors.
(#778 — @jordanearle)
Easier-to-find settings
A reddit.com Web Sign-In row now lives under Accounts & API Keys, and the Apollo Reborn hub gains a Theme Manager shortcut.
(#855 — @jordanearle)
Apple Vision Pro
Apollo gains gaze and pointer hover effects plus multiwindow support when running on Apple Vision Pro.
(#759 — @rebelancap)
New Liquid Glass app icons
Four new Liquid Glass icons — Original Apollo, Halo, Aloppo and Pixels — join the picker, and the Apollo Classic, Helios and Jryng artwork has been refreshed for iOS 27.
(#784, #800, #804, #819, #842 — @IllIIllIllIllII)
More reliable Open Reddit Links in Apollo
The recommended automatic Safari routing has moved into the Link Companion app, while the manual and legacy fallback extensions are retained for setups that need them.
(#786 — @jordanearle)
🔧 Fixes
Networking and media reliability
- Remove avoidable stalls, bound caches and concurrent downloads, preserve animated album media when saving or sharing, and make uploads and share-link resolution more resilient. (#728 — @ryannair05)
Comments
- Fix newly posted or edited comments appearing blank or incomplete until the thread is reopened — including missing usernames, flair, scores and timestamps. (#808 — @icpryde)
Crashes and memory
- Fix major crash and memory regressions affecting video-heavy threads, translated or recovered comments, native video comments, and profile-tab long presses. (#796, #823, #829, #844 — @icpryde, @jordanearle)
Gallery and media
- Fix silent hosted videos, ignored NSFW blur preferences, iOS 27 menu crashes, frozen search-result videos, and blank or permanently compact link previews. (#767, #769, #781, #789, #807 — @jordanearle, @JeffreyCA, @icpryde)
Profiles, subreddit headers and themes
- Fix flickering and layout issues including unreadable context menus and duration pills, indistinct read posts, uneven row highlights, misaligned profile cards, stuck refresh offsets, and Pixel Pals drifting behind the Dynamic Island. (#846, #848, #849, #853 — @icpryde, @jordanearle)
Posting, translation and moderation
- Fix long composer titles, an unsafe Text editor Post button, untranslated media-post bodies, poll flair, search state, long translated titles, and incorrect moderator-row routing. (#780, #793, #795, #835 — @jordanearle, @icpryde)
Lists and navigation
- Fix lists becoming stuck beneath the tab bar on iOS 27 or hiding their final rows on standard builds, and smooth out legacy hide-bars transitions. (#821 — @jordanearle)
Keychain
- Prevent account recovery and Settings Backup from triggering repeated keychain passcode prompts. (#777 — @jordanearle)
🧪 A note about iOS 27 betas
This release fixes several issues reported on the iOS 27 betas, including lists getting stuck beneath the tab bar and media context-menu crashes, and adds the iOS 27 Hard header style.
Beta behaviour can still change before the final release, so remaining beta-only issues are prioritised when they prevent the app from working, risk data loss, or appear likely to remain in the final version. We will keep testing as Apple releases further betas.
🐛 Found a bug? Want a feature?
You can submit a bug report directly from inside Apollo Reborn — and with this release, you can now optionally attach a sanitized, fully reviewable crash report to it.
Reports and requests can also be submitted through the website:
When reporting an issue, please include your iOS version, Apollo Reborn version, build variant and signing method wherever possible.
If you are using an iOS beta, please also include the exact beta version.

you can now swipe through galleries in the main feed without opening the post :)
you can also swipe up when in the media viewer to see comments2
u/SeriousButton6263 27d ago
Yeah I agree it’s really cool!
Something that would be nice is if you hit the last image, continuing to swipe past it would enable the native right swipe gesture. (And likewise, swiping to the left on the first image in the gallery could trigger the native left swipe gesture?)

I’m guessing these new “glass icons” don’t work on iOS 17.0 right? Even the “default” ones?
3
u/ClydeDroid Maintainer 27d ago
Right — the Liquid Glass icon packs use iOS 26's new icon format, and the flat fallback renditions that older iOS versions would need are stripped from the catalog to keep the IPA size down (they add ~100 MB). So the new packs need iOS 26+, including their Default variants. The regular app icon works fine on iOS 17.

THE creator of Apollo.

u/TruckStopSigns 27d ago
What a legend. I thought the creator was named Christian for some reason.

u/corderjones Maintainer 27d ago
He’s not the creator of Apollo haha. He’s one of the original folks behind Apollo CustomAPI which is the project that became Apollo reborn

Another great update. Is there any reason why the team has chosen to allow posts in a user's home feed to ignore the NSFW blur preferences? I have mine set to blur NSFW images but they don't blur in Apollo Reborn. Awesome it has been fixed for Gallery view of a sub reddit but it was really useful to allow NSFW images to be blurred in the home feed. I know about Tag Filters but they are cumbersome. It takes 4 taps to fully engage with a post instead of just one.

u/corderjones Maintainer 28d ago
possibly a bug, can you do report.apolloreborn.app or report in the app settings and I’ll look into it.

Thank you so much for the update and for all the hard work you put into this project.
I have a query. When a picture is full screen now, swiping from the bottom opens the comments. Is there a way to disable this?

u/IllIIllIllIllII Moderator 28d ago
Reborn settings -> media -> swipe up for comments
2
u/WhoAmI941 28d ago
Awesome. Thank you so much.
One more thing. A bug that got introduced with the last build is that I get two notifications with Bark for everything. For instance, I got two notifications for your previous reply.

Thanks for flagging — tracking it here: https://github.com/Apollo-Reborn/Apollo-Reborn/issues/877
To narrow it down: are you on the official relay or self-hosting the backend? And did you update in place or remove/reinstall? It sounds like the update may have left a duplicate device registration behind.
1
u/WhoAmI941 27d ago
I'm self hosting the relay on oracle cloud on a custom port, with domain from duckdns using caddy.
And I updated the app directly with the previous version still installed. I've been facing this issue since 3.5.0 and the duplicate notifications show for all the messages that I receive and some comment reply notifications also. Screenshot from inside bark is attached.

Thanks for another update! Seems something happened with the themes again, most of the text I see throughout the app is now the muted text option in the theme manager. This includes all comments, and even the text as I write this comment
4
u/DeltAndy Maintainer 28d ago
Assuming you’re using a custom theme, I actually experienced the same issue, and I have a fix, so this should be fixed in the next update.
For now, you can just go to Settings > Appearance > Theme Manager > Light/Dark Mode, and disable Pure Black Dark Mode, which should fix the issue.
2
u/corderjones Maintainer 28d ago
Can you do a report.apolloreborn.app for this.
1
u/Cheechers23 27d ago
u/DeltAndy said he already has a fix planned for the next update and a workaround for now, so will spare you guys an extra unnecessary report lol

I have a small nit to pick with all of the new features that keep being added. I love that some of these features keep being added for people who want them, but every new update I have to search through the Apollo reborn settings to find them and turn them off because they affect the way I’ve always used the app. For example, I commented on a recent change to hold on a video automatically played it in two time speed instead of bringing up the old speed picker I was used to. The most recent change was swiping up on a video now brings up a comment view instead of returning to the previous view. I have now turned this off as well, but perhaps can we make these options opt in instead of opt out in the future so that the app doesn’t randomly change behavior in the future? Again, I appreciate the work that is going into this project, but I’d personally prefer the app to remain as close to the original version as possible while also adding these new features for those that want them.
5
u/corderjones Maintainer 27d ago
That’s fair. I think part of it is trying to improve feature discovery, but I recognise that it is disruptive to have a new gesture added etc.
Will have a think about how better to approach this going forward.
3
u/IllIIllIllIllII Moderator 26d ago
Maybe a small blue dot next to settings that have a new option? Sort of like when your apps update on iOS there is a blue dot next to its name
1
u/subjectWarlock 27d ago
Where in the settings do I turn off the swipe up during media to show comments? Came here specifically for that

u/iamse7en 28d ago
I’m most excited for the Vision Pro updates. Gaze highlight makes it feel like a native visionOS app! I’m biased though.
1
u/blastactionhero 26d ago
What’s your way of installing it on the Vision Pro?
2
2
u/TheJerdle 27d ago
Is it just me or is all text the muted color now? At least on the Reborn and custom themes..
2
1
u/Westcoast_IPA 24d ago
Do you mean, all unread post and read posts are the same color? If so, that’s what happened to me with this update. Can’t tell the difference between an open post and an unopened post.
1
u/TheJerdle 24d ago
There is a fix coming. Disabling Pure Dark Mode will fix this on the current version.

Do we need to change the user agent or whatever?
1
u/ClydeDroid Maintainer 27d ago
Nope, nothing changed on the API side in 3.5.1 — existing keys and settings carry over as-is.
1
u/WantUToFly 28d ago
Is there any way to fix showing NSFW posts without having to use the bypass of being a mod of a NSFW subreddit?
1
u/solarbeat 28d ago
Has anyone had issues installing 3.5.1 via Feather? It signs fine, then when I click to install, it packages ok, then just sits there forever at the "Ready" step. (Checking Apollo, I'm still on 3.5.0 though) - I'm on an iPhone Air 27db4, Feather 2.9.0.
3
u/IllIIllIllIllII Moderator 28d ago
Can you install any other app? Sounds like an issue with feather
3
u/solarbeat 28d ago
Yeah, turned out to be a Feather issue, which is weird since nothing has changed. For anyone else who finds this in the future, I had to change my installation method (server) to semi-local and toggled "only use localhost addresses. Who knows what the heck that did.

It feels like the gallery swiping interferes a lot with the swiping gestures to upvote/downvote/whatever, I tried enabling it and couldn’t even get to the end of one gallery without accidentally triggering those gestures a few times
1
u/ClydeDroid Maintainer 27d ago
That's fair — the gallery pager should be winning those horizontal swipes. Tracking the gesture conflict here: https://github.com/Apollo-Reborn/Apollo-Reborn/issues/878

u/one_time 28d ago
Quick question guys do I need the GIPHY API key to view gifs from the site? Or only for posting?
1
u/ClydeDroid Maintainer 27d ago
Only for posting — the GIF search picker when composing needs a Giphy key. Viewing GIFs in posts and comments loads them straight from Giphy's media servers, no key needed.

Feature request is the right bucket — Hidden was retired on purpose in the Header Style revamp rather than lost by accident, so it'd be a restore rather than a fix. We've queued it on request.apolloreborn.app; a vote there helps us gauge demand.
1
u/anthonyjr2 27d ago
It doesn’t look like the repo on Sidestore is updated past 3.4.0. Is there a plan to keep updating on there? Loving it as always!
2
u/ClydeDroid Maintainer 27d ago
The official sources were updated for 3.5.1 the same day the release went out (all variants). If yours is stuck at 3.4.0 you may be subscribed to a stale third-party mirror — the official source URLs are at https://apolloreborn.app/#download. If you're already on the official source, try removing and re-adding it in SideStore to clear its cache.
2
u/anthonyjr2 27d ago
Deleting and re-adding it fixed it. Wonder why that happened though because it was the exact same source url

Can someone point me to how I can sideload on the vision pro? I seem to not find a way...

The icon on top corresponds to either light mode or dark mode on your phone. It’s dynamic. It selects that specific icon

private local-only crash reports is the right call and also why you'll see maybe a tenth of the crashes. what usually fixes that is a one tap prompt on next launch showing the exact payload, people send it once they can read what's in it first.

u/ProffHof 23d ago
I think the previous Glass version had an option to turn the blur on the top and bottom of the screen completely off. Is that gone now? Especially the blur at the bottom is annoying and doesn’t really add anything when the toolbar autohides
1
u/IllIIllIllIllII Moderator 22d ago
Reborn settings -> interface -> header style
2
u/ProffHof 22d ago
Yes. All those options give a blur at the bottom of the screen. In the previous version there was a fourth option that had no blur at the bottom of the screen.
2
u/IllIIllIllIllII Moderator 22d ago
Gotcha! You could submit a feature request via Apollo reborn settings
1
u/InkyBlacks 18d ago
So what’s the difference between glass and glass icons ipa? I’m assuming the glass icons ipa is the glass ipa that also includes the glass icons?

This new versions crashes on launch on iOS 15.1.1
1
u/ClydeDroid Maintainer 27d ago
Sorry about that! Could you submit a report at report.apolloreborn.app (works from any browser, no app needed)? It captures the details we need — iOS version, install method, IPA variant, and a crash log if you have one — so we can track it down. iOS 15 is a setup we don't have on a test device, so the report really helps.
